These films were kinda racist as well...

Andrzej Zulawski's Possession (1981)

Not for everybody, nor designed so. If you can get this film then you will understand why it's held in such high regard. There's so much more going one here than one would initially think, very far from just being just another horror film...

Inseminoid (1981)

Rather an Alien clone on a far lesser budget, yet still a good watch for fans of the 80's and the genre. Good B movie stuff :)

Next Exit (2022) I happened across this while channel-hopping and it is a little gem of a movie. Much of it is meant to be comedy, and it is the kind of movie that causes a smile rather than outright laughter, but there are elements of sci-fi and drama as well. (Also, I have a friend who is strikingly similar to the character Rose....)

I'm going to prepare to see Infinity Pool (2023), the new movie from Brandon Cronenberg.

I love David Cronenberg's work, and I also liked the previous movie from his son. And my hype is pretty high with this new film. I absolutely adore absurd, unreal, dreamy or even psychedelic atmospheres, and I expect nothing less from this film.

I'll come back to share my opinion.

Okay, I just saw Infinity Pool from Brandon Cronenberg. Amazing, I loved it. Maybe I was expecting a bit (just a tiny bit) more of surrealism, but the movie is strange, unsettling, dreamy and psychedelic enough to make enjoy. For moments, it reminded me of one of my favorite directors of the moment: Panos Cosmatos. But with the love for the flesh that runs on the Cronenberg family. Recommend.

PS: Special mention for Mia Goth. Oh mama…

i personally never quite got the concept of watching a movie to get scared sh**less and then have very troubled sleep thereafter..
then again, to each his/her own … 🫣
Ironically, most of the people I know who are into fright stuff are the nicest people you would ever want to meet. But I never got it myself. I tried to watch the "Alien" movies but it turned out that having creatures suddenly jumping out all the time (how could something that big be so quiet?) wasn't my thing.

a lot of action/thriller/espionage genre have enough sudden frights in them for mine.
then again, perhaps it's a sign of ageing?
don't like rollercoasters or skydiving anymore either … sighs … 😞

The Last King of Scotland (2006)

Based on the events of the brutal Ugandan dictator Idi Amin's regime as seen by his personal physician during the 1970s. Great direction & performance's all round by the cast. A little unnerving given the real world events...

I used to like horror but this was before it became brutal violence as the main attraction. The best left more to your imagination, even Alien as scary as it was had little gore other than the dinner scene. ;) What I object to is graphic torture which is more disgusting than scary. A recent most excellent horror film was Get Out! :)

Last night I watched The Phantom of Liberty (Fr, 1974), from Luis Buñuel. As a Spaniard myself, I feel a bit ashamed to discover his work at this point of my life, but better late than never, I guess. I love how he pushes the boundaries of societal conventions and how thought provoking he is, along with the symbolism and the surrealism.

This is the third Buñuel movie I see, after Le charme discret de la bourgeoisie (Fr, 1972) and my absolute favorite one, El Ángel Exterminador (Mx, 1962).

Tonight, I’m planning to watch Viridiana (Mx, 1961).

In the 50's and before, the actual killing was usually done off camera. Usually a shadow showed it. I'm sure that a lot of the gore in more modern movies is because they can do it convincingly. (see Rick Baker)

Yeah I loved Get Out.
