i personally never quite got the concept of watching a movie to get scared sh**less and then have very troubled sleep thereafter..
then again, to each his/her own … 🫣
Why do you believe that horror fans watch for this reason? I love horror but it doesn't scare me in the slightest and I sleep like a baby. Sure, there may be a few 'jump scares' but that's just in the moment and doesn't leave any sort of hanging dread or fear. They're fun to watch.

The Pope's Exorcist was a good one. I watched that the other night on Netflix.

I think I don't like horror much because I identify with the victims too much. OTOH, I laughed my way through "The Exorsist". Not being Catholic, the story was a bit absurd.

I laughed at an Asian Horror movie I went to see at the cinema with some friends, 10 or 15 years ago. Me and my friends were like that one in the middle, because the movie was so absurd and, at times, so comical, that we couldn’t hold the laughs.

I don’t remember the movie, the only thing I remember is that it was a sequel and, I think, it was Taiwanese or Thai.

Last night I watched The Phantom of Liberty (Fr, 1974), from Luis Buñuel. As a Spaniard myself, I feel a bit ashamed to discover his work at this point of my life, but better late than never, I guess. I love how he pushes the boundaries of societal conventions and how thought provoking he is, along with the symbolism and the surrealism.

This is the third Buñuel movie I see, after Le charme discret de la bourgeoisie (Fr, 1972) and my absolute favorite one, El Ángel Exterminador (Mx, 1962).

Tonight, I’m planning to watch Viridiana (Mx, 1961).
Last night I saw Viridiana (Luís Buñuel, 1961), and even tho this is not a surrealist movie, it’s pretty good. I’m not especially fan of classic (non-color) movies, however, I liked very much the settings, the direction, and the acting. And the main protagonist has a special glow that I cannot describe.

I understand that most of this forum will find it difficult to watch because it’s a Spanish movie and, as far as I know, there’s no English dubbed version, but I guess you can find the remastered one and watch it with subtitles, like I do with French, Korean or Japanese cinema.

I still have a few Buñuel movies to watch, but something tells me that I’ve already watched his best works (listed on my previous, quoted message).

I really like horror as in good horror films, not the torture porn rubbish which is just out there to shock. A good phycological horror film is always worth the watch. Problem being the opposite as few if any these days remotely scare...

There was a guy I used to work with who would watch all the movies first and warn me of any extreme nastiness.

Cultural differences can make for "interesting" movie going. Like when they crowbar-ed Raymond Burr into Godzilla, the context of the movie changed.

Swan Song. An Apple Original movie, quite new I think. Interesting future tech possibilities on display, including a "Vision Pro" type concept using contact lenses.

For those that want to spin the "time machine" ever further back SHE (1935)

Now restored and colourised...
Nor is it a bad watch, perfect for a Sunday afternoon matinée :) Admittedly I prefer the restored B&W version as just seems to be more fitting. I bought the physical media, simpler that way as will never be delisted from my libary...

The benchmark is a good horror film you will watch again. Those that are purely for the shock value, be lucky to even finish a first sitting as generally lack any depth of storytelling. The phrase "video nasty" being most appropriate...

Sound of freedom was good, few cheesy moments, but a good flick, hit well above its budget and was based on real events that need more light shined on them

Also re watched children of men, damn good movie

Think I might check out Barbie, friends say it’s pretty funny

One of the best Sci-Fi films you've likely never watched. My grandfather used to buy me the comic back in the day and Dredd 2012 is exactly that realised on film

My creakingly old 2011 15" MBP is many things, equally as a media server it never disappoints and unfathomably serves up the right film at the right point in time :)
