Apple Original, pretty watchable. Unusually watched this on my MacBook. 86% battery power after watching a two hour movie. Impressed.

..as one guy put it - this is like a german version of 'the dirty dozen'.
But it is based on a book written in 1952...and for a fascinating background do some research on the author...his life sounds like it would make a great movie.

Yes a bit of a controversial guy to say the least...

Sven Hassel
Oh my goodness, that's a blast from the past, his books were extremely popular here in the UK in the 70s particularly among teenage boys. I just followed your link and I didn't know all that controversy - it doesn't surprise me though and sort of makes sense. Unlike Lord of the Rings etc it might not be the sort of books to revisit 40 years on... (Plus, I'm not sure the cover typography I remember would pass a modern publishers cover meeting nowadays ;))

just watched ‘Golda’.
50 years since Yom Kipper war when Israel nearly had their arse whipped.
very interesting time historically and Helen Mirren is a brilliant actress.
all that said it was as boring as all get out and amateurish in its production.
or am i being too critical 🧐

Hmmm, yes, perhaps.

But, but, but.......how much (do you think) of what he wrote about himself was actually true?

Ed: Sorry, hadn't spotted that @decafjava had beaten me to it.

Teenage boys, yup, - that is, teenage boys with an interest in history - that is exactly the demographic that these books appealed to.

I first came across his books as a student at university, passionate about history.

Discussions (with male classmates who were also fascinated wth twentieth century history) about that era, and that country, at that time, revealed a common interest and, thus, we exchanged our own (personal, private collections of) books with each another.

Thus, they got to read - and some struggled with these tomes - "it's heavy" moaned one - my (serious) stuff, which is what was on my shelves (William Shirer, Joachim Fest, etc); in return, I was given....Sven Hassel.

Daniel Craig absolutely nailed Bond's character in this one; cool, extravagant, yet highly capable, dark & dangerous...

Q-6
and the best bond movie to boot.
lost count of how many times i've watched it.
eva green shines/stuns.
the shower scene was spontaneous apparently (after dispatching the machete wielding warlord and pal)

I’ve rated this and Quantum of Solace, two linked stories as the best Bond movies ever made. Agreement not required. :)

Great movie with a amazing cast.

Great premise as well.

As D-Day approaches, Colonel Breed hands the roguish Major Reisman (Lee Marvin) an important assignment: He must train a team of soldiers to parachute across enemy lines and assassinate German personnel at a French chateau. The soldiers, recruited from murderers, rapists and criminals on death row, are promised commuted sentences. In spite of their history, the 12 men prove a spirited and courageous unit. Led by Major Reisman, they will exact revenge.
