Planet of the Vampires (1965)
1754022275612.png

After landing on a mysterious planet, a team of astronauts begin to turn on each other, swayed by the uncertain influence of the planet and its strange inhabitants.

Original title Terrore Nello Spazio (Terror in Space), is original, stylish & surprising. Typically, period yet is atmospheric & intriguing, foreshadowing Ridely Scott's Alien & Prometheus... If you like the genre & period is one to watch.

Saw Ne Zha last night. The name jumped out at me because I had just watched Creations of the Gods and Ne Zha was one of the characters in that movie.

Beautify animation equal to anything from Dream Works.👍 I would compare it to Disney👎, but I hate that Evil Empire. They rewrote Chinese mythology😡😡😡, but most people wouldn't know or notice.😩 I'm not deep in to Chinese Myth, so I will allow for artistic license.

The characters development is superb. I loved the all the major characters and most of the supporting characters. The people behave the way you expect: the ostracized hates everyone, the marginalized resents in the majority, the oppressed hates the oppressors and so on. There is an African proverb, "The child not embraced by the village will burn it down to feel its warmth." Well the boy is Ne Zha.

There are a lot of lessons about humanity: bigotry is learned, parental love is powerful, life sucks if the guy at the very top is an (_!_). IMO, the only real villain is the Supreme Lord, Yuanshi Tianzun.

I didn't watch the dubbed version, but the Mandarin voice acting was excellent, especially Taiyi Zhenren (the fat immortal).🤗

I managed to watch most of Independence day 2 yesterday. Being a fan of IPD1, I guess Im glad I saw it but not something I feel the need to rewatch. They drug out every old cast member that could still walk or at least sit up. Bill Pullman's President Whitmore who seemed to be suffering from dementia or similar type of decline had a moment of lucidity that was entertaining to see and captured the human spirit pretty well I thought, but then they mindlessly blew him up. He deserved a better send off than that I thought. I liked the warlord Dikembe Umbutu character a lot. He was the closest to a Mandalorian in the movie and every movie needs a Mandalorian :D

The most entertaining part of the movie was Brent Spiner's character. He made me laugh especially with his butt hanging out like it was LOL :D

OK, it didnt completely divebomb but it wasnt that great either. I might watch it again in a couple years.

Repulsion (1965)
1754175907360.png

1754175980166.png

A withdrawn manicurist who disapproves of her sister's boyfriend sinks into depression and experiences horrific visions of violence.

Repulsion is superb example of the psychological horror/thriller genre. The trick being, is not to fill the screen with CGI monsters or indestructible serial killers; it's to portray fear in a manner that's utterly palpable to the audience...

Roman Polanski's first English film and one of his best. While controversial and wrapped in controversy Polanski extracts the very best out of his actors, budget & locations. Repulsion being a must watch for those who enjoy both horror & Thriller films. One to be watch in entirety and uncut at 1:45:16, accept nothing less. Criterion Collection's release also includes multiple extras which make for a more complete package.

I just watched Ghost in the Shell, the live action version. Overall a disappointing movie. The fight choreography is top notch, the kind of hand to hand fighting you'd expect from Hong Kong action flicks. The visual, equally impressive. Where it falls flat is the storyline. Evil corporation doing evil things...hackeneyed.😑 They completely changed all the members of Section 9 for the worse. The only improvement was getting rid of Tosuga's mullet.😁 They let him keep his Mateba revolver.🥳 Put a red wig on the Major and I'd easily confuse her for Black Widow. In the anime and manga, the Major is one of the best hackers in the world. Live action Major is all brawn, no brains.

Visually appealing, that's about it. All sizzle and no steak.

Pretty much what I expected to hear. The original 90s film is what got me back into anime, brilliant. Saw the sequel which I liked, never saw the various series though I heard good things about them. Soundtrack is amazing.

Watched The Great Battle last night.

An entertaining movie with epic battle sequences, good acting and emotions, but a bit light on story and a gaping plot hole. I've got a soft spot for underdogs fighting insurmountable odds. That's probably why I liked 300 and Musada too. 300 had a weak story. Musada had a great story and acting, but boring fighting. The Great Battle towed the middle ground with a weak story, but good acting and great fight scenes. Unlike those shows, the underdog won.🥳

I would have liked more development for some of the characters more. The oracle woman mainly served as eye candy and a MacGuffin. If relationship between two of Yang's lieutenants, Baek-ha and Pa-so, had been more developed, their death would have been more poignant.😢 The plot hole that I can't get over is how the Tang army managed to build a hill next to the Ansi fortress. No skirmishers harassing the workers while they spent 2 months building a mini-fort right next door.

Well, recently I decided to watch all David Lynch (R.I.P.) movies. I started being his fan back when I first watched Twin Peaks (the series! Shame on me but I didn’t even know there was a “Fire Walk With Me” movie), but I smh never thought of watching ALL his movies. And after watching Eraserhead, Wild At Heart, Lost Highway, Mulholland Dr. and Inland Empire I now realize all of them feel like a part of a same surrealistic universe, just like different elements.

Just yesterday I finished Inland Empire (2006). While movie is definitely hard to understand on the first watch, it is quite easy to watch at the same time. As well as the scenery of 2000s Poland feels smh very nostalgic. David was a genius indeed. He was the only person that could make such a universe that feels so surreal but so “native” at the same time, as if the movie tries to get into your unconscious and “communicate” with it thru different images and visuals.

Also I love how all his movies are intertwined, in a very interesting way.

Remember the Polish woman who came to Sue’s home and told her two similar tales about “a little boy” and “a little girl”, and the one about the boy was like:

A little boy went out to play. When he opened his door, he saw the world. As he passed through the doorway, he caused a reflection. Evil was born.”

Isn’t it literally a scenario for Twin Peaks: The Return that was out in 11 years after Inland Empire?

“Coop comes out of a Black Lodge, but it isn’t a Coop but his evil doppelgänger that also makes “Dougie”, and true “self” of a real Coop is still stuck somewhere in Lodge”.

So yeah, his movies have a huge space for different interpretations and it never gets boring to find something new in them

…….is now available to buy, and I loved the first one so much I instantly grabbed it but didn’t watch it till today, brilliant film, just as daft and fun as the first one with the sassy murderous robot. Sadly although they have plans for a third film, not sure if this second one did well enough at the box office to warrant them making a third one. I thought the acting was better in this film too.
It was a LOT better then the new War Of The Worlds film I stupidly watched on Amazon and shall never talk about again.. that damaged me with the amount of plot holes it had…

Tried to watch Jurassic World: Rebirth. I should have stopped when the candy wrapper caused a major security breach. I didn't. I watched for another 10 mins or so.
I then looked it up on IMDB to see if it was as bad as I thought. It is.
Went back to re-watch the original Jurassic World and noticed a couple of easter eggs. I liked the way the T. rex thanked raptor Blue for its help at the end. Also impressed at how the heroine kept her high heels on all the way through the film. Not exactly ideal for tramping through jungle.

That ruined the movie for me too. A 5 ton dinosaur with thermoptics camo? I can accept that. A dinosaur killing for sport? Show that it has human level intellect. Trudging through the jungle/forest AND running in high heels? Y'all lost all credibility with me.😐 Reminds me of the story of Goldilocks and the 3 Bears. I could accept all the weirdness, except the porridge. Bears made porridge and the only thing wrong was the temperature? Utter rubbish.🧐 I know people who can't make proper porridge.🤨

Porridge in my boarding school was hard. Cast iron hard. You could bounce your spoon off it.

This one is 'okay,' not as good as the first. War of the Worlds, I don't know what they were thinking. It felt like one of those college film class type of projects.

I think that is insulting to College Class Film makers! It is so awful lol.

King Arthur: Legend of the Sword. I’m not sure if it’s meant to be funny but some of it is hilarious to me. “Put your ring back on, you haven’t had enough porridge “

Ford v Ferrari
Watched this for first time ever just tonight, with my 21 yr old son, he’s off to senior year in college Saturday.
I have dedicated HT with 140” screen, JVC laser PJ NZ800, audio 9.2.6.
This movie was so good, so captivating, I felt “it” watching it.
I get it, the love of speed.
