Avatar (2009)- Still the top grossing film of all time for a reason. Amazing film and premise, and I dismiss my wife’s scorn as a Dancing with Wolves remake. It’s so much more. 😁

I didn’t rate it and tend to agree with your wife. Not a very original story imo. I heard there is a sequel out. I’ll definitely skip it.

My son in his youth liked, likely target audience. Me mildly entertaining but nothing to be excited about.

The second sequel is out, I think.
Avatar- The target audience was everyone. The story is worthy despite not being an original theme, it was an original incredible setting, impressive visuals, great action and cinematography, enjoyable characters and a completely original, photo realistic ecosystem created on a computer, filmed in a warehouse, a technical achievement. This does not mean everyone will love it, but the highest grossing film of all time says something about appeal.

Regarding themes being original or not, that is a valid critique, but themes don’t make a movie, and repeat themes are more common than not, murder mysteries for example. It’s a critique that boils down in some cases, if you don’t like the subject matter, you won’t like the story.

after almost 2 hours, with 4 left
turned this over-hyped, octopus script, wrong factual, non flowing, over bearing, loose plot holed ofa movie
tho Sean Penn was great as I was missing Leo getting chased by a bear.... big time!

First film was good and groundbreaking in many respects, rest could care very less. Just churned out garbage Cameron can do better than this, or maybe he no longer cares, I know I dont...

I liked the first one, visually amazing, storyline was ok. The 2nd one was visually amazing again, the storyline, meh, at best. And now the 3rd one will be out next week in theaters, certainly not going to go out for it, and I can very likely wait til it is available for streaming ...
