I saw the Mandalorian and Grogu with the family yesterday. It was super fun.

Like the Star Trek franchise, I am losing track of all the spin-offs for Star Wars. Same with the Alien, Terminator, Predator franchises, and don't get me started on the Marvel stuff. Getting old...
I haven’t kept up on any contemporary franchises in several years. I seem to stick to old familiar favorites.

I have been focusing on Indy films - they seem to be more creative these days than many of the major studios IMO. The problem is that many of the Indy films (and many of the shorts) I want to watch are difficult to get in the UK. I don't want to subscribe to a second-tier streaming service just to get access to one film. 🙁

But, yes, I too seem to focus in on the studios' "classic" offerings rather than their "new" content.

Last weekend we did some Indy. Last Crusade and Crystal Skull.

We also rolled some 1990s B SF

This one has also piqued my interest!
Yeah, me and the wife went down a Bogeyhole a couple months ago. Maltese Falcon, African Queen, and Passage to Marseille. Obviously nowhere near all his great works to see.

Around the same time, we watched some Spencer Tracy. Instead of watching again Inherit The Wind or Bad Day at Back Rock we went for Adams Rib and State of the Union.

The Maltese Falcon might be my favorite film of his...

Terminator Salvation (2009)

All grown up in post-apocalyptic 2018, John Connor must lead the resistance of humans against the increasingly dominating militaristic robots. But when Marcus Wright appears, his existence confuses the mission as Connor tries to determine whether Wright has come from the future or the past -- and whether he's friend or foe.

I just couldn't get into this one. I've watched it one time before, years ago when I bought the BD. About halfway through tonight I popped the disc out.

It's not because it doesn't feature Arnold or Linda Hamilton either. It's just a wholly different feel and experience compared to the first 3 movies. There is a high reliance on CGI vs. practical effects. That's not always a deal breaker for me, but it wasn't doing it for me.

Then there are little things too. I know all about suspension of disbelief but in this movie they couldn't sell it to me. I'm watching humans shoot little robots or terminators at point blank range with small arms fire. The machines are made of metal and the bullets out of lead. How are they not getting themselves injured or killed by ricochets?

I get it. It's a movie and Hollywood always takes certain liberties with things which sometimes they need to in order to move the story along. It just wasn't working this time for me.

I like the plot idea, just not the execution of it I guess. This is why when I watch the Terminator movies I only watch the first three.

Was it good? I really liked Nobody (part 1),
It's action but the twist lol but I thought it was good.

and after reading and seeing reviews of
rebel moon P1.jpgrebel moon P2.jpg
thought I'd see the director's cut on Netflix. Surprised myself with only fast forwarding maybe 2x's. I thought the mix of Star Wars, Magnificent 7 and the visuals was very good and hope there's a third movie.

I thought it was OK. I think Bale added an intensity to the film and Yelchin, Worthington and Bloodgood played their roles well. Mind you, the ending was a bit anaemic.

And who knows? Maybe in a few years AI will give us an entirely realistic experience of this sort of thing...

If you follow Warhammer Lore... IMHO, there is a lot of it sprinkled throughout this... I want my those minutes back... and I guess I was hoping for a better part two as I sat through it also. UGH... It does look nice though.

I saw the first Rebel Moon film when I briefly had a Netflix account, I thought it was moderately awful like much of the rest of Netflix’s content. I cancelled after a few months.

Extraction (2020)
1780110138509.png

Tyler Rake, a fearless black market mercenary, embarks on the most deadly extraction of his career when he's enlisted to rescue the kidnapped son of an imprisoned international crime lord. An Ok thrill ride, little better than average.

Extraction II (2023)

After barely surviving his grievous wounds from his mission in Dhaka, Bangladesh, Tyler Rake is back, and his team is ready to take on their next mission. Just a dud IMO, disposable streaming garbage...
