War of the Satellites (1958)

An "unknown force" declares war against planet Earth when the United Nations disobeys warnings to cease and desist in its attempts at assembling the first satellite in the atmosphere.

The Wicker Man (1973)
1778929384726.png

The Wicker Man, directed by Robin Hardy and written by Anthony Shaffer, is a haunting British folk-horror classic that blends mystery, atmosphere, and unsettling folkloric dread. Edward Woodward stars as Sergeant Neil Howie, a devoutly religious police officer who travels to the remote Scottish island of Summerisle to investigate the disappearance of a young girl, and discovers a community with pagan rituals and increasingly sinister motives...

If going to watch look for the The Final Cut (2013 StudioCanal restoration) or the Director's Cut "long" hybrid (2001 Anchor Bay/Canal+) the original release was sadly butchered.

Straw Dogs (1971)

Sam Peckinpah’s Straw Dogs is a tense, divisive psychological thriller that tests viewers’ moral comfort with its unflinching depiction of violence and masculine rage. Loosely adapted from Gordon Williams’s novel, the film follows David Sumner (Dustin Hoffman), an intellectual American mathematician, and his wife Amy (Susan George) as they move to her rural English hometown. A slow-brewing conflict with local men escalates into a brutal, morally ambiguous climax. Is a hard watch so be warned...

Not a good date movie…☺️

I always find it funny when I read Sorcerers stone instead of The Philosopher’s stone. Just looks weird.
The first book I read in the series, I borrowed from an English friend titled The Philosopher’s Stone, this was when the story was new on the scene and I thought that was weird. Philosopher’s philosophize, sorcerer’s do sorcery! 😉

This thread may become one of the most enduring topics, because people watch their favorite movies every day, different movies appear every day, and even the passing of some people won't stop it from continuing.

It comes from the concept of Natural Philosophy, which was the foundations of modern science. It included observations of the natural world, along with experiments, amongst other things, in chemistry. Some of that was mystical, or alchemical. One of the goals of the alchemists was to create a substance which would turn lead into gold, or the Philosopher's Stone.
The process was thought to be one belonging to the natural world, not sorcery.
