Invisible Stripes, 1939

Same sentiments. The shaky cam only works in certain circumstances. Blair Witch VHS cut nailed that, rough as **** but intentionally well done.

Q-6
Blair Witch was excellent except it almost made me nauseous as it was more jerky than Cloverfield. 😛

Finished up my Harry Potter saga last night with Deathly Hallows Part 2. Most excellent! Said as someone vested in the franchise, although the author it turns out, she stinks in her personal views…
Tonight, I think The Toy Story saga in prep for No.5 but I saw a trailer for it and was a bit disappointed.
(Forgot to push the send button for this post).
Yep it’s Toy Story. 🙂

10 Cloverfield Lane
1781514045291.png

After a catastrophic car crash, a young woman wakes up in a survivalist’s underground bunker, where he claims to have saved her from an apocalyptic attack that has left the outside world uninhabitable. Way different pacing to the first film, yet keeps you engaged throughout.

In EVERY way.

huge build up to... NOTHING
characters with no depth or agency
lazy writing
lackluster special effects

it was straight up boomerslop

did you see it or are you just testing me?
No, I haven't seen it, but was looking to watch it and wanted to know why you didn't like it. Based on your response, I doubt I will go out of my way for it now.

I really hate it when a movie has characters with no depth or agency, as you say, which is akin to what I say, no character development. Lazy writing is usually substituted for special effects, but I guess not even this time.

Appreciate the comments! I won't rush out to watch it, and may never watch it if it's that bad.

You can see it and come back and tell me I'm right or wrong.

I actually exited the theatre thinking "The entire aliens/UAP narrative is just fake and made up to distract from military or air force drone and aircraft programs". To me, the movie play like Spielberg was just hired to make CIA propaganda.

Based on these comments and this review, I’ll definitely watch this when it streams and report back later.

I was so looking forward to it.

Guess I'll watch Close Encounters of the Third Kind again...

The Ghoul (1975)
1781578310203.png

In 1920s England, former clergyman Dr Lawrence keeps his cannibal son locked in the attic after the young man is exposed to savage practices in India. When an auto race is held at the estate, Lawrence worries that his son may escape and terrorise the youth. A slow burner being more mystery than horror.

Transcendence (2014)
1781608511524.png

Two leading computer scientists work toward their goal of Technological Singularity, as a radical anti-technology organization fights to prevent them from creating a world where computers can transcend the abilities of the human brain. This one hits a lot different in 2026 than it did in 2014...

Knew it would be bad, but wanted to see how bad they messed up Animal Farm. Angel Studios really ruined their reputation with this one. Not sure what they were thinking bringing in people like Seth Rogan in on this movie and then thinking they could write something more enlightened then Orwell. They literally flipped the story and seemingly made zero attempt of putting any intelligence into what they were doing. Pour attempts at humor which I am thinking they assumed would have saved this film. Some of the PR stuff seemed to also make this out to be a kids movie. Other then lazily made animated farm animals there is nothing here a kid would be interested and in my opinion should be seeing.

Do yourself a favour and ignore this movie and if you have not read the book read that.

Total Recall. The Colin Farrell one.

It's utter rubbish compared to the Ah-nold version. It has vastly superior in FX, action and atmosphere, but that's it. The biggest issue is story. There is hardly any.😡 During the 2 hour movie, there's probably 15-20 minutes of dialogue. Stuntmen and CGI artist do the heavy lifting in this movie, the script writers and actors ride the coattails. There was only one scene that I found engaging, that was where Harry tries to persuade Quaid that he's still in Rekall. The only back to reality is to shoot Melina. The actor who played Harry, day-um, he was convincing.

The most unbelievable part of the story is that Quaid, a factory worker, could afford a huge apartment in a world where overpopulation is a problem. This is the New York waitress being able to afford a midrange apartment in Manhattan level unbelievable. (Friends or The Big Bang Theory).

Oh, I liked that in this version Quaid's wife isn't just ornamental. Lori (Kate Beckinsale) is a combo of Lori (Sharon Stone) and Richter (Micheal Ironside). She kicks (_!_).🤗

Watching Kung Fu Hustle. (Or, re-watching, I should say.)

It's just completely bonkers...in the best possible way. 😀

I don't mind the remake, apparently it is closer to the book, but yeah Arnies was classic 80's? Action SciFi.

The Blair Witch Project (1999)
1781672909517.png

In October of 1994 three student filmmakers disappeared in the woods near Burkittsville, Maryland, while shooting a documentary. A year later their footage was found. The Blair Witch Project significantly influenced social media, marketing and the horror genre by using innovative online strategies to create a sense of realism and community engagement. Blurring the lines between fiction & reality, making it a landmark case in how films are promoted, especially through the internet.

There's multiple versions of the film; Blu-ray, Sundance, Theatrical recreation, VHS rip with the latter capturing the feel of the day most accurately. Not the best of films, yet if in the mood still entertains & fun to watch.

For those that want the POV experience there's always...

The Tomorrow War.
01583797_poster_w780.jpg

An enjoyable diversion. High school teacher goes to the future to fight a war for the survival of humanity. I liked the premise. The plot was standard Sci-Fi fare and predictable as the sunrise. A fair script with a good mixture of humor (Conspiracy Santa 😄) and conflict and credibility. The political strife was 100% credible.

My big beef with the movie was Star-Lord Sgt. Forrester, ex-Special Ops, doesn't make targeted shots despite being told that the Whitespike's is only vulnerable in the neck and abdomen. He has the skills and training, yet he sprays and prays. Why? He wastes hundreds of rounds and doesn't even slow them down. Conspiracy Santa makes targeted shots and took down plenty of Whitespikes.

I have been seriously attempting to experience The Creator for the past few days . . . extremely fascinating, yet temporally misaligned with my divided attention.

Very "A Young Lady's Illustrated Primer"-esque context....
