Mac switcher here.

Maybe you can shed some light for me.

First ..I for one also miss add remove programs, but probably won't for long. I somehow accidentally ended up moving my entire applications forder to the trash. I only noticed that it happened when I went to change an icon and noticed that the path came from the trash. (luckily I don't run the clean up programs I used to have to run on my pcs). For now I don't drag and drop anything. My desk is crowded and sometimes I drop when I should be dragging. Advice is always welcome.

2nd. The program I miss, most is Paint Shop Pro 7. No Mac version is available (Photo Shop too expensive) and sometimes I need it like now and haven't quite gotten used to Gimp. Crossover users tell me that it works with PSP. But I've never used that free version of Crossover yet.

3rd I miss MS Access ,mainly because I had extensive training both in the class and by trial and error at my last job. To learn the Neo office version or wait till Iwork adds a database equivalent is way too mind boggling. Besides I was such an expert that the support department at work sends folks to me. What a boost to the ego you know.

Last with regards to MS Money. Luckily my Ibook (Tiger)came with both Apple Works and Quicken. I used Quicken and Money before and Quicken suits my needs for a money management program. I was disappointed that my Imac (also originally with Tiger) didn't come bundled with these two programs. Guess I'll have to balance my checkbook on my lap.

Any help/suggestions on the "applications deleting" problem I had and comments about Crossover will be appreciated.

Oh and the fellow who missed the blue screens, there is a screen saver out there called BSOD that shows error screens from any OS back to commodore and more. or he can come to my house. MY PC will give him one on each reboot. Lousy POS.

Picassa and MS Money.

I hope Google builds a MAC version for Picassa soon. I hate how iPhoto hides all the picture files you import and you have to go through iPhoto to do any type of picture file management.

picassa and i photo

I am not sure what you mean about I photo hiding all your pictures but if you mean that when you go looking for them in finder the iphoto library icon is not a folder? I was annoyed about that too until I right clicked (remember I am a recent switcher and you can't do anything in Windows without right clicking) there is an option to show package contents. that's where I found all my pictures.

I wasn't planning on using I photo because my web host offers an online photo gallery, but when my daughter put pictures of her daughter on the hallmark thing, that old right click gave the option to download to iphoto, so I did.

hope that's what you meant. I tried to rotate a picture in Iphoto and then saved it (I thought) to upload, but it was still sideways. Had to learn that part of gimp fast.

Didn't know about the right click and show package contents option. I'll have to try that out.

I also loved how with Picassa I could designate a root folder where I kept all my folders of pics. And then anytime a new folder of pictures or a new picture to an existing folder was added, Picassa would automatically import those pictures for viewing. I didn't have to manually drag and drop the picture into Picassa or manually click an option to "import from folder".

Is there something similiar to this option in iPhoto?

If you mean how Picassa monitored your computer and added every picture, graphic, gif etc to it, that's actually what I hated about it. I have a lot of graphics that I snagged from a yahoo Paintshop Pro group. The person sharing the graphic wanted the name intact as a condition for use so the graphics usually had bizarre names or were named with numbers etc, marystree1.psp for ex. or even marhyflsu.jpg. Hated that esp when it was a zip file full of trees. I really just wanted actual photographs in Picassa

I haven't found anything like that yet. I actually like being able to import my pictures in IPhoto ( I guess that library we talked about is the "root" folder) and also having them in a folder that I can move to our family's shared drive, since I haven't converted them to Mac addicts yet. Maybe you can google iphoto vs picassa. That's what I do when I want to find out a lot about two similar programs

Note: I just tried to drag a picture into my data>2008>misc folder in the IPhoto library. It doesn't work. The picture is there but it doesn't show up in IPhoto and I can't import it from there. Finder doesn't like it either shut down on me twice. Going to play some more.

auto import new photos in iphoto

cycler I am doing all your work for you lol

on this forum believe it or not there is a thread called
auto import new photos in iphoto.

A person called Shiunn asked the same question and numlock suggested and told him how to use automator and also suggested another program that is not free unfortunately

I also found a few other sites with lots more information, but don't think I am allowed to post links here

THanks for the info, I'll do a bit more research and playing around with iPhoto.

Dragon Naturally Speaking voice recognition. I know there's a mac version 1 out but it's much more expensive and nowhere near as good.

foobar2000, the best music playing application ever will be missed, but that is why I have vurtalization.

Sometimes I miss the virus. before I could blame anything on the viruses when I forget to type an essay for school or something. but now that my teachers know I use a mac, they don't buy the excuses anymore. haha lol.

Star Wars: Rebellion

I have tried it with Crossover, but it only runs on 1/4 screen. Not a good thing.

In a word, WordPerfect.

+1 on that. There's no other word processor with the equivalents of <center> and <flush right>. If you're printing concert programs or church bulletins, who wants to have to fool around with tab settings all the time???

WordPerfect and SoundForge. (but I'm starting to get the hang of Protools)

Soundforge and Acid Pro...If Sony would make solid versions for OSX I'd marry my new MBP. I kinda miss a few classic games so I keep my dusty old Toshiba laptop around.

Tiggerr129:

For us, the hellraisers on the MacLands, there is VMware! Try it! Uncle Jobs knew what he was doing when he choose towards Intel chip. Like Rome empire, he didn't need to kill all his enemies. Instead it would be more profitable leading them to "proselitism"...

Just run Windows XP on your Mac

If you are getting a new Mac with the Intel chip set, just run Windows on the Mac. there are several ways to do this.
1. To boot into a chosen OS, Apple provides 'Boot Camp.' At startup, you choose either (not both) XP or OSX
2. To run both XP and OSX concurrently, there are several methods.
New Macs use the Intel processor. There are many ways to install Widows on these new Macs. Apple provides 'Boot Camp.' Others such as 'Parallels' 'Crossover' and 'VMware Fusion' are available.

If you use an old Mac, they do not have an Intel compatible processor. You can run Virtual PC.

You need a valid Windows Install disk and passcode to install XP.

Only Boot Camp is free.

Notepad++ and MSpaint
(although I got both running with DarWine, copy and pasting is very limited).

I've tried alternatives to Notepad++ (I just need something to do PHP), however I guess I've gotten used to the syntax highlighting.
