i gotta go with the 8gb. i got around 3.5 gb's of songs. and my movies are my own dvd's, which come out to about 300mb for the phone, per movie.

Another 4 GB vote (I hope your 20% prognosis is true... higher chance of getting it on day 1). My music collection is way larger than 8 GB (have 30 GB iPod that) and frankly, 8 GB is a rip off since 8 GB and 4 GB iPod nano differ by $50.

I have always believed that you have to be stupid not to get the 8gb model. I mean come on, when your spending 500 bucks on a phone, in the BIG PICTURE, what is another hundred? If you can afford to spend 500 bucks on a phone, I'm sure you can put on another 100. And then you can never look back and regret anything... Live life with no regrets!

8GB version for me!

I will be going for the 8GB version of the iPhone as I feel it will better accommodate my needs.

i suppose ill have to have the biggest and best... so 8GB for me...

now what if there isnt any 8s left?? i guess i will then have a bigger decision to make..

8 GB for me. I have a ton of music on a hard drive (270+ GB) so my 80 GB iPod isn't even enough. I'll be using the iPhone primarily for audio books, podcasts, video and a little bit of music - just fave playlists probably.

I have nearly 100gb's of Music, Photos, and Movies in my iTunes Library. There will be no iPhone in the near future that will hold all of it. When I do buy an iPhone it will be the low-end model for phone/pda purposes.....so the iPod functions will be a bonus.

....now if other features get added to the "high-end" model besides storage capacity and are not a part of the "low-end" model then I would have to consider the more expensive version :)

$100 for the extra 4 gigs makes sense to me.

I would probably always regret not getting the extra 4 gigs. I have a 80 gig iPod so I am not going to replace that.. but still allows me to get some decent video on to my iPhone.

$100 for the extra 4 gigs makes sense to me.

On iPod nano, extra 4 GB costs $50 more ($199 vs. $249), so $100 premium doesn't make much value sense to me. Unless 8 GB iPhone includes something extra (e.g., Bluetooth headset), I will get the 4 GB version.

My primary iPod is a 2GB nano(down from 6GB mini), but it's not really much of a problem since I don't need to take my entire music collection(around 10GB with just music) with me, and I don't anticipate heave video usage.

8GB seems very weak for a "Widescreen iPod" So I think Apple will put it up to something like 15gb and 20gb.. If not I don't think I will be getting one until 2 Generation.

Flash is still kinda expensive. If you think the price is expensive now, if they were to put out a 15 or 20GB version right now, it would cost as much as a low end computer, as if its not close enough. Although the price is still the only problem i have right now with it, i am still looking to purchase and if i did, i would definatly go for the 8GB for the extra 4GB at only 100$ more. On the other hand, i am sure we will be seeing 15 and 20 GB models maybe by the 2G, or even the 1.5G ;)

Oh, I'd get an 8 GBer, just so I can have all my music, and some podcasts with me, and maybe a movie... my 30 GB 5th Gen. is packed though. I'd love an iPhone, I'd break my own arm for one... and 8 is the real only usable thing to me... 4 just doesn't cut it for a video player.

Well, I've a 8GB Nano at the moment, which I cope just fine with at the moment. However, my music collection being something like 40Gb, more space is always nice. Ideally Apple would release a 16GB version, so I'd keep 8GB for music, and 8GB for movies/tv shows. Not that I ever really feel the urge to watch movies or TV shows when I'm out, apart from on long train and coach journeys.

As long as the highest capacity remains 8GB, I don't really feel I'm 'upgrading' in any sense from my 8GB Nano and cheap crappy Nokia phone I have at the moment (and which suits me fine).

This is a totally different situation. iPod nano is not an iPhone, and i dont mean that in like a lalalala i have no point to make sort of way. iPhone is a different idea, different product, etc. 100$ isnt bad still...

I'll definitely be getting the 8 gig.

Apple is going to clean me out of some serious money on the iPhone for years to come...

My guess is that when it comes to market, it will wind up being 8GB and 16GB at the original prices.

I think that too.

16GB would be the minimum for me really (or wait for the 2nd gen). Don't forget the OS lives on that storage too (apparently).

Huh? Yes, I get that iPhone does more than iPod nano, but memory is memory. Why should memory cost twice as much on iPhone vs. iPod nano?

What percentage will buy 4gb vs 8gb iphone

What percentage of the population of people buying iphones will buy the 4gb vs the 8gh iphone? I believe that almost everyone is going to gravitate to the higher storage capacity, even it means shelling out $100 more. Lets face it, people who are willing to pay for the high price of the phone/service plan, won't have a problem with another $100, if it means getting double the storage capacity. Lets just hope apple isn't making too many 4gb models...

i actually haven't even decided yet. i suppose i'll probably go for the 8, but if there's none left when i get there i'd settle for the 4.

I'm buying the 8GB, if only the 4GB is available, I'll order online and wait. While the 4GB would be more than enough for music, i watch lots of videos and for that, I need more capacity. Even 8GB is not that much, but is enough for every trip I take. Along with my PB, I can just swap out videos as necessary.
