Im glad someone asked this question. I have been going back and forth about whether to get the 4 or 8 gig. I always thought that 4 would suffice, but then again, it's only $100 more to DOUBLE the storage capacity - but then again, I can do a lot with $100, like pay my phone bill. Also, I will be canceling my contract with Verizon which is going to run me $150. So should I just save the money and stick with the 4 gig? I'd appreciate some feedback on this.

Keep in mind, I don't plan on keeping more than 100 songs or so on my iPhone (just make a smart playlist or something of my favorites. I keep an iPod in my car to listen to when I'm driving). I also only intend on putting a few tv shows on there at a time. My whole thinking was that the 4 gig will be fine because since I will be docking my phone to charge every night, I can just have iTunes update it every day with new stuff.

Bottom line, it would be nice to have the extra space... but is it worth it?

The way I look at it...I have around 240 songs on my computer. which is 1gb. I barely even listen to 50 of them, literally.

So 4gb for me.

8GB is definitely not enough. I currently have a 30GB iPod and it isn't enough for me (well is say me, but that's because it is filled with cartoons for the family). The iPhone will be MINE and i will be able to have it the way I want it, so the fam can fight over the 30GB iPod Video, 2GB iPod shuffle, 4GB iPod Mini, and 512k iPod shuffle. HANDS OFF THE IPHONE, IT'S MINE, ALL MINE!!!

8GB for me. But part of me still thinks that there is a chance that Apple will surprise us by changing it to 8 & 16GB, for the same prices. :) So basically, I will just chose the highest capacity available.

If I was to buy an iphone (i'm fighting the urge) I would get the 8 gig. Unfortunately this is not enough for me considering that this is shared with the OS and applications. I think I'm going to wait for the second gen. that will, hopefully, have more memory.

There should be a poll on this.

I am gonna get the 8 gig because I want to fit as much as possible on it. My dad though see's little need for even a 4 gig though, he has yet to fill his 1 gig card on his treo. There is a markert for the 4 gig... they just dont post here :)

Sounds like you already made your mind up. You dont need the space, why waste the money?

Yeah but...

You've been in line for 3 hours... the clerk says 'congrats sir/miss, you get the last one, but it's a 4GB'.

If you're jonsing for for an 8GB, do you get the 4GB? I bet 90% of you guys would get the 4.

If I was to buy one it would be 4GB but, as Cingular/at&t have no coverage here, the problem will not be mine for a while yet.

Along similar lines, what's the feeling on whether there'll be a first day sell out on these? There seem to be contradictory reports on whether Apple has stockpiled 3 million of them (?), or whether they'll be creating shortages to draw out demand (as if they need to!).

I'm going to be in the US on the 30th, and would be damn disappointed to have missed seeing one of these live in an Apple Store by only a day, be it 4GB or 8GB. :)

As for me, I'm definitely going for the 8gb. It seems like 8 GB would be the more common sense approach when you buy one, but, as we all know, most consumers are stupid unlike we are.

Especially since Apple knows most are going to go for the lowest price, without even considering the efficiency $100 upgrade gives to the iPhone.

My point is, for those who think they are going to get a 4 gb easily on day 1: think again, you better be in line real early!
 ;)
