If there was no such thing as an iPhone I would probably get the Galaxy S2.

Funny there is this thread cause I was on another forum and we were discussing the same thing. :p

I said I liked the HTC Desire cause of its UI and battery life. The best iPhone backup there is out there, in my opinion. :)

I happen to have one lying around as a backup for my 3GS.

Either get a cheap phone (dumbphone for great battery life) or a batterypack/solar charger

I really cannot imagine having any phone other than an iPhone now.

Someone else already suggested a 'battery backup.' This is a good route. Here's something: http://richardsolo.com/backupbatteryforiphoneipod.aspx

But, if you want another phone, a good 'dumbphone' would be a Mot Razr from ebay at $50 unlocked (let the hate replies come).

Probably either another older iPhone, or a Nexus S. In reality, it's a £2.99 Sony Ericcson from the Carphone Warehouse :D

Well, i would just keep one of those portable battery charger, but to answer your question:

    spare AT&T phone:
    HTC inspire or Samsung Focus

    spare Verizon phone:
droid incredible 2 or HTC trophy

In reality, I would just seriously buy an extended battery pack for iPhone

Hold on, in your other post you mentioned "you do a lot of driving." That means you can charge it from the vehicle.

I would use whatever old phone you had that was replaced with the iPhone. If you don't have that then maybe get a used first Gen iPhone they're pretty cheap now.

welfare you going to remove your sim card so you have the right phone number? if so it is going to be a hassle to remove the sim all the time.

A pay-per-use flip phone. Epic battery life, and it's virtually indestructible.

Yes it's true but there are times that I am not driving like in NYC and all I have is subway or taxi so its just a matter of convience. Also sometimes I don't want to have emails all day just to be called to connected I guess
