In my opinion, it sounds too good to be true.

Here's what I would guess: The seller might have stolen the computer. He/she ships it to you, without an advance payment, because there is nothing for the seller to lose if you don't follow-through with the money (if the machine was stolen anyway). If you pay, then the seller made a profit.

Would a reputable seller allow you to pay afterwards? I don't think so. There are many clever scams in the world, and it sounds like you are in the middle of one. It's hard to see when you are so excited about getting such a product.

It just sounds very, very fishy to me. My opinion is that it must be stolen.

But if the seller has sold dozens of them before. He was from UK and pound sucks now so there are very cheap MBPs around. My iMac was 500€ cheaper in UK.

Like I said though, there is something known as Collect on Delivery, which is what the seller is employing right now.

To the OP, how much money did you save?

FedEx and UPS in the US also offer services where they collect cash upon delivering an item.
It's known as Collect on Delivery (COD).

This COD thing by Fedex is terrible. That's how I got scammed once.

I sold a computer to a buyer (who turned out to be a criminal) in Los Angeles, and the buyer paid COD to the Fedex driver when Fedex gave him the laptop.

When the check came back to me afterwards, it was a "certified check". At least it looked like it. The bank even cashed it.... but later they withdrew my funds, because they found out the check was fake. So I had essentially given my computer to a criminal, and I had no money to show for it, and I even had to pay the fee at the bank for the check to be withdrawn.

Fedex wouldn't help me. The bank was no help. The police were no help either. They said this stuff happens all the time (and this was back in 2004!).

I'll never get scammed again. That was one of the worst things I've ever encountered.

It it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is. I would walk away from this deal. Just walk away. Don't even look back. I think that you are about to be scammed..... or perhaps your seller is just very naive.

Oh my. Well that's certainly a problem. I've never used it before, so I have no experience with it.
For this though, it doesn't seem the deal is "too good to be true". I think the prices seem fair, so it shouldn't be a scam.
Again, I wish you the best of luck.

I hope it goes well for the OP too. I don't mean to sound too cynical! :) Please keep us posted.

I would make sure you can type full sentences.

Second, I would check to make sure it works. Frankly, I doubt you'll have time to do either because the delivery guy will not wait. Time = Money.

hahaha guys, so funny enjoyable comments :D thanks a lot! no need to call police. I'm very fine! :D I killed the carrier and took the mbp and didnt pay anything! everything is fine than! :D :D

Sorry for posting so late, I just didn't notice how time flied while playing with my very own brand new gorgeous macbook pro! haha :D

yes I'm writing this post from my mbp :D

I received delivery at 9:00 am in the morning. I didnt expect so early! but sooooo nice surprise it was for me :D

First I looked out if there is any really delivery company car :D to make sure about who is coming ;) if it is real delivery or someone trying to cheat :p anyway, it was ok. I opened the door. and carrier came in, confirmed my name and product serial. than he asked me permission to open the box! "he asked me!' :D and we opened the box, it was sealed-box mbp. than I opened the item box as well, I checked everything around. than I booted up, I checked serial number, specifications... I made my online apple registration with serial number and my name-address. everything was just great! than carrier asked nicely if I can sign, and I signed, paid and he walked away with good day wishes to me :)

than I contacted to seller to inform, he was like nothing happened like he was so sure it would be ok, just wished me happiness with my new mbp :) he also advised me to buy Apple Care and and some more things... I'm still in touch with him, and I will contact him again for my future mac accessories ;)

to sum up, yes it looked like "too good to be true!" but it is obviously true :) I had extremely good experience about purchasing my mbp.

in Poland, macs are almost 1000$ more expensive than UK market. I mean at official mac stores. I paid 500-600 hundreds less than offical UK apple. So the seller made few hundreds pound money, and I saved over 1000 :) so it was not cheap like scam, and it wasnt expensive like official store in poland. this is the way he makes money in poland market. he has sold over 150 macbooks to poland, and over 500 accessories...

I want to thank all you guys for your great advices! you helped me a lot to make my dreams true :) thanks again! I wish all you guys successful purchases as well :D

okay, im going to back to mess with my mbp :D
see you...

p.s.: I'm editing the topic title like "CSI: Macrumors" from @mward333 hahaha :D nice one!

aha and I LOVE THIS BEAUTY! I can't name it like laptop or any other object! it is just beauty!! :D

I've been monitoring this thread to see how things develop. I was very skeptical.

For my part, I'm glad to be proven wrong. Congratulations on your successful purchase, and I hope you enjoy your new MBP!

I'm tempted to believe that you are part of a large organised crime group attempting to restore faith in unbelievably good deals amongst the most tech-savvy group online in preparation for a future wave of 'too good to be true' scams.

Hehe. Enjoy your MBP. Some pics would be nice.
