Hmm... I don't usually carry one at all. Wallet in back pocket, cell in left, keys in right, and I'm set. When I do carry one, its usually because I'm traveling or some such. Of course, if I'm in a situation where I'm "out and about" all day as opposed to just driving in to work and back, I might take one too. When I have one, I typically carry:

- MacBook Pro + accessories (power cord, USB light)
- Reading material (books, magazines, etc)
- condoms
- iPod
- Headphones
- Digital Camera
- sometimes a small notebook
- pen
- Passport (if needed)

If someone actually gave me a "Man-Purse" & I absolutely had to go out in public with it for some God-forsaken reason, My testicles would probably be the first thing I'd tuck in there.

All kidding aside- they make nice travel companions. To other places. Where nobody knows you.

Is it wrong that my man bag has:

  • Dior sunglasses
  • iPhone
  • BlackBerry Curve
  • Wallet (not purse :p)
  • Passport

Let's play the guess the sexuality game!

Edit: My man bag is one of those "it's OK I have this, I'm a fashionable male" from ASOS.com style bags.

Currently...

I currently have mostly stuff required for college courses in my UAB, but here it is in full -

-Bible (KJV Baby!)
-Journal (Various things within that)
-3-ring binder
-Notebook
-2 textbooks
-"Free Time Reading Book" (Like I have a lot of free time anyway.)
-Multiplicity of pens and pencils
-Post-its
-1 add-to-bottled-water drink mix (orange flavored)
-Microphone for voice recorder (funny, I got rid of the voice recorder a while ago.)
-Battery Charger
-IR Remote for MBP
-Butterknife
-Name Badge
-ToothBrush & ToothPaste
-Napkins
-TacoBell Hot Sauce (just in case)
-Note from my girlfriend

That's about it.

What I would carry?

Everything you said, plus an extensive first-aid kit. And a lighter. Probably some peanut butter (just so I could justify carrying a butterknife with me.)

That's all.:apple:

I find it completely amusing to read about the amount of blokes who find the idea of carrying a bag such a huge threat to their masculinity, as it implies they can't have had very much to go round in the first place. :p

I'm frankly astonished by the level of hostility to the 'man-purse' or 'man-bag'. Indeed I don't even understand why they are not just called 'bags', 'lady-trousers' anyone?

I've carried one for years and in my experience, men who don't just get their mum, or girlfriend (if they have one), to carry stuff for them.

They've always been "bags" to me. I think the term "manbag" is just ridiculous. But I have been corrected by people in work over the term.

Me: Nice bag mate, where did you get it?

Him: Er, what? Bag? It's a manbag!

Man purses are no threat to my masculinity (scratches testicles and belches loudly! ;)), what I don't understand is the need to carry so much at all times. What are they expecting to happen to them!?

Ooh, hello thar! :D

Indeed, I can't see the need for such a varied toolkit (more because by the time I'd found the pocket that contained the zip ties, the tiger would have escaped, etc) but, then, it's not me that has to lug it around and sort through it.

It's just the notion that by not having misshapen clothing through all your electronics wedged in there (or by offloading all your bits into your girlfriend's bag, as it were ;)), you are some kind of bollock-less weakling. I am a great fan of a man with a bag, in case this isn't clear. ;)

Any one of us could find ourselves in a Die Hard situation at any time, it's best to be prepared...

When you put it like that...

(or by offloading all your bits into your girlfriend's bag, as it were ;)),

I don't even have all of those stuff at home. :D

I don't bring a bag unless I take my laptop home from work, which is about once a week. Most of the time, I have my keys in my right pocket, phone in my left pocket and wallet at the back.

That's how I am now. I have wallet/keys in left pocket (I don't use my back pockets except for reciepts/scraps of paper), iPod in right pocket, phone in right "coin" pocket.

I would like to have all my usefull bits centralized into a single mobile place, and I already have the bag, so it just seems like good sense to fully equip it.

I still want "UAB" (Urban Assault Bag) to catch on.

I just don't feel the need to cary much of anything with me. I have either one or two keys on me, with no keyrings, my wallet and maybe my phone if I'm expecting a call or text.

When I'm home I don't even have the keys because my pickup doesn't need keys anymore.

While I'm on the road everything I need is in my truck. That includes most things listed in this thread and much more.

That's why God made womens. They carry purses and you put your stuff in there. They are so much more popular than man-purses and there are reasons for that.

Women tended to carry more stuff around before all the gadgetry became common?

When the OP says Military does he mean the Boy Scouts?

I do not know about the USA but I have yet to find a situation in urban UK where I need a survival kit.....I did not pack that kind of junk when backpacking in the mountains let alone nipping to the shops pack of fags.

Having said that I often wondered why the US troops I see on TV seem to pack 3 times their body weight in accessories...are their handbags by Gucci or Millets?:)

Really useful tools you should consider for your bag:

  • hydraulic car jack
  • crowbar
  • acetylen torch
  • paper tissues
