This is a feature I miss from my windows 5.0 phones.

I relied on the led's to tell me what was going on with the phone.

You can't get meaningful stereo separation from a 5" device. It serves no purpose.

Never said it was "HiFi", but it does make a big sound difference, Bold owners know it. You can hear the separation as it "throws" each channel left or right. Vocals come out of the top. I use a 3GS too, but the work bold 9000 sounds way better without headphones.
Apple wants to be a leader, but always has to save "some features" for the next years phone. I'm dissappointed by not having them include stereo speakers on the new iPhone- or the iPad for that matter. One of the reasons that I bought the 17" MacBook pro is the speakers, best besides a Toshiba Quizimo- but who would buy a PC for personal use...

It's less about the time it takes to see if you have a notification and more about the fact that is nothing is blinking at you or triggering you to go look at your phone, you're not going to go check it.

Obviously of the people who want the LED could remember to go check their phone every so often, they would be asking for one...........

A reminder light that flashes when you have a text message/email like the blackberry. Anyone else feel like this would be a worthwhile feature?

Absolutely

My old Samsung cell phone had a blinking led and I found it invaluable

My iphone is normally on vibrate and I miss calls all the time

There should be a option in settings if you do not want it on

State of the art phone without this function is beyond me

Well, if they're going to do something so horrible, at least just make the apple logo glow as an indicator or something.

You never know....there might be one around the aluminum casing part of it...on the bt keyboard there is a light that you can't even find when it's not on.

I recall one rumor that said some iphone model would have a hidden led inside the ear hole. Another rumor said it would be behind the screen.

If apple ever does it, they'll likely do it in a way that the light isn't visible when not lit, at least.

Small round led to the right of the ear speaker within the black bezel

You would not even notice it until it lit up ;)

Notice the three round sensors to the left of the ear speaker?

You can barely see them unless you look close

I don`t want my phone blinking like a Christmas tree. Apple keeps things nice and simple. And those lights are tasteless.

My phone is pretty much always in a place where I notice it ring or vibrate, and if it isn't when i eventually get to it i dont just throw it in my pocket, i tap the home button ONCE and see if i have calls or texts. Not difficult and I never get annoyed by the lack of notifications my phone gives me.

I'm probably also not "important" enough to really care about a delayed response to an email, text, or call. 20 years ago we never seemed to care so much about missing a call.

You guys are acting as if the light would be a blatant, high-powered laser beam that would instantly blind you if you looked directly at it. A subtle and slightly washed out light notification hidden under the glass wouldn't make the iPhone look like a Christmas tree.

I'm not always in the situation where I can look at my iPhone every time I feel it vibrate, sometimes I even disable vibrate to stop the loud buzzing of it.

Anyone who's saying no to this feature (which im sure would have the option to be turned off) is just being a prideful apple mark, who supports apple's every decision. I love my iphone, i think its overall the best phone and portable multimedia device out. But its not perfect.

Anyways, i hate it when Ur doing something.. Reading, typing on ur computer, watching tv etc.. Then u go to the bathroom to pee or something, and during the 2 mins that u were gone, u get an important phone call or a text msg. U come back and resume what ur doing and u end up not checking ur phone til after an hour. Happens to me all the time. This feature wpuld prevent this.

Please please please, extend the list of attachments for the phone to finally include much-asked-for devices like an external keyboard and a gamepad!

No /thread

Actually it not the end of the thread but how very egotistical of you to think you have the last and final say.

I like the notification light and find them useful on all phones I have used that have them. I often notice it blinking out of the corner of my eye or as I walk past the phone when it's on the table for example.

And for those of you who are panicking because a flashing light would ruin the minimalist perfection that you worship you CAN shut the lights off on every phone I have ever had in the settings. So if you dont want it dont activate it or turn it off....simple.

Maybe there`ll be some little light indicator when the front-facing camera is recording. Than the jailbreakers will use that indicator as notification light for missed calls and SMS.

Predicting the future is fun :p

Arms and legs.. That is what the iPhone is missing.

unless its hidden somewhere, it will still be seen, even if you turn off the light. i dont want to disturb the smooth face of the iphone by putting in an unneccessary light. its not that difficult to see if you have messages or missed calls

lol an LED just means you can be more lazy, like it really takes that long to unlock the phone and see the notifications on the home screen!!!???!!! :p :p :p :D

i think the only people that want the LED is people that had it on old phones and have become dependent on it.... :p

:D

Actually, Whenever I had my old iPhone, the screen would turn on if I received a text or something when I pushed the sleep button, it was very annoying for the screen to turn on in the middle of the night.

I think that this could be a useful feature if it was included VERY discretely, it doesn't really bug me to just push the home button really quick and see if there is anything there, but it is really annoying when I forget to check and miss something for a long time. So a light would be nice sometimes.

I'm also gunna have to agree with the OP, I would really like this feature. Obviously I think an option to turn it off is a must.

I remember seeing iPhone concepts a while ago that had this light integrated into the home button which I thought looked really good. Would be hard to get a notification light in there though.....
