its no assumption, it is laziness, doesn't take that long to unlock,i have a passcode and its not that bad to just unlock and look, i just push the home button to see if i have any texts or missed calls. really not that hard....

Thats like saying "why put a badge number on my messages or mail icon if i can just quickly open the app and see if i have a new message. No biggie...."

whats the point of BBM when you have apps that run other messengers, like yahoo, msn, facebook, etc?
I don't want to derail this thread (and it's been beaten to death in other threads), but the appeal of BBM is hard to understand until you have a large number of contacts, or it has reached critical mass in your social circle.

Anyway, for those opposed to the notification LED, as long as there's an option to turn it off (as there is on BBs), what do you care?

This topic has been "discussed" ad nauseam for months. For the general public, probably no point. For the business executive a neat feature. Ex: Executive from Company A meets Executive from Company B. Neither company allows user to install apps, device is locked down. Executives agree to keep in contact for an hot issue, thus BBM.

It is nice not having to pick up your phone to constantly check for email. If it's a feature you can disable, why do you care if it's there? Since when is another feature a bad idea?

i care if i can see that there is something on my phone that doesnt need to be there. it doesnt matter that i can disable it, i can still see that there is a light on the phone, even if it isnt lit

A reminder light that flashes when you have a text message/email like the blackberry. Anyone else feel like this would be a worthwhile feature?

I've thought it was a worthwhile idea since the first iPhone, when I made this little mockup...

depends on where you put the light!

This thread is full of ridiculous people. Why get so polarized over a little feature. I couldn't care less one way or the other whether Apple adds this feature. I can see the use and if Apple were to add it the light would probably be like the pulsing sleep light on Macbook Pros, where you can't see it unless it's lit up.

You do realize you are now part of this thread...

The polarization over little features starts at Jobs and Ive and trickles down to us. Without these debates and obsessions, there would be no fanatatical Apple fanbase, and likely no Apple. You'll notice there aren't many DellRumors sites.

I never said everyone in the thread is ridiculous. I said the thread is full of ridiculous people.

Man, these days reading comprehension has gone down the drain. It's sad, really.

I never said everyone in the thread is ridiculous either. All I said was you are now part of this thread.

What I think is missing in the OS

Prior to upgrading to OS 4 Beta 2 I had a jailbroken phone I had a program that would allow you to reply to a text straight from the lock screen, home screen, and while in another program (multi-tasking workaround so to speak) apple should really consider this as an option, having both jailbroken and non jailbroken phones I can really say that it is a hugely handy fix and I miss not having it. I know apple has added features from jailbreak type programing before and think they should do it much more often they can take advice from the people adding jailbreak apps yet still save face and say its part of thier OS. Just a though.

P.S. if you have not upgraded to the beta version of OS 4 and are thinking about doing it DON'T it is still full of bugs, the fetures are nice like folders and universal mailbox but needs ALOT of work, just thought I would pass that along.
