I'd like to see a notification LED.

I would also like to see status bar notifications! I jailbreak my phone for that. It's fantastic to simply glance at the status bar and see if I'm missing anything. No need to unlock the phone, just tap the home button to wake up the screen, look, and back in pocket.

I unlock my iPhone and my mail, phone, text apps show notifications. What's the big deal? I'm not 'traveling' or doing many steps.

Not a big deal if you are only looking at your needs. For a business that uses the iPhone Configuration Utility and has mandatory alpha-numeric lock screen, it becomes cumbersome.

I agree 100%. it's not difficult to unlock your phone for 3 seconds to see any missed calls, messages, emails, whatever. I would absolutely hate if the next iPhone had a notification LED

Again, you too are looking at the small picture, which is fine for you.

Most people have passcodes on their iPhones, especially on corporate phones, and if Apple is about simplicity, they would use some sort of grouped notification system in the taskbar or have a notification light on the phone.

It's not difficult at all, it's rather just annoying how Apple hasn't setup any type of central notification system throughout it's OS. Just because you don't find something useful, doesn't mean others wouldn't as well. If it really annoyed you, hopefully Apple would add a setting to change the color or disable it completely.

You see the light, no pun intended.

I hate the notification LED on my Curve. There are times when I don't want to be interrupted by my phone yet my BlackBerry insists on screaming that I have new mails even though I've just read it in Mail.

It's got to the point where I put my phone face down when it's on my desk.

I thought you could do: Go to your profiles > Edit the profile you use > Go to Message[your email] > Change "Repeat Notification" to "None" from "LED Flashing". Is this not the case?

I know its not many steps but having to do these steps are even better don't you think? Like the poster above said, Apple is about simplicity, so simply looking at your phone is a lot more simple then pressing the home button, then sliding to unlock and then pressing the screen lock button.

You are assuming that you know what think Apple considers simple. After all their is a settings icon, is there not?

Any data to backup that most people have passcodes?

FYI, my phone is jailbroken, so I don't have to slide anything (a stupid feature, IMO), since I just tap to unlock. Also, I hear the notifications, so if I care, then I look.

Maybe you do not have anything of value to protect, but Corps wanting to use this for business might have have this concern.

Well, if they're going to do something so horrible, at least just make the apple logo glow as an indicator or something.

So horrible? There is allot more horrible in the world than a blinking light. You over exaggerate.

I don`t want my phone blinking like a Christmas tree. Apple keeps things nice and simple. And those lights are tasteless.

You also assume you know what Apple considers simple. So again I give you the settings icon. Is that too hard?
There is nothing complicated about a blinking light. You probably were one of those that said Apple would never implement cut and paste or multitask. But here we are...

You guys are acting as if the light would be a blatant, high-powered laser beam that would instantly blind you if you looked directly at it. A subtle and slightly washed out light notification hidden under the glass wouldn't make the iPhone look like a Christmas tree.

I'm not always in the situation where I can look at my iPhone every time I feel it vibrate, sometimes I even disable vibrate to stop the loud buzzing of it.

LOL good point!

unless its hidden somewhere, it will still be seen, even if you turn off the light. i dont want to disturb the smooth face of the iphone by putting in an unneccessary light. its not that difficult to see if you have messages or missed calls

What you want is irrelevant. If Apple considers it worthy, it will happen. The question is, if it becomes a reality, will you give up your iphone because your sense of aesthetics is hurt?

lol an LED just means you can be more lazy, like it really takes that long to unlock the phone and see the notifications on the home screen!!!???!!! :p :p :p :D

i think the only people that want the LED is people that had it on old phones and have become dependent on it.... :p

I think you need to expand your thinking beyond what you are used to. Your assumption about laziness just shows a lack of understanding on how the iphone is used by a certain sect of the population. See screen shot.

its no assumption, it is laziness, doesn't take that long to unlock,i have a passcode and its not that bad to just unlock and look, i just push the home button to see if i have any texts or missed calls. really not that hard....

It may be a pretty handy feature as the iPhone (as I know it, anyway) doesn't have a pure silent notification feature. I know that switching the phone to vibrate is "silent", but when you're sitting at a dinner table, having a serious conversation with your parents and younger sister, who cannot stop texting; even the brrrrrrrrrrrrrr is kind of annoying.

I would be all for a flashing LED next to the earpiece speaker (same place, but other side the ambient light sensor).

you can change in settings to not vibrate in silence, its what i do, when i flick to silent, no noise, no vibration.

You are equating something being hard as opposed to being inconvenient. Did any poster on this thread say it was hard?

You can twist in the wind all you want. It faster to look at a light than to unlock a phone.

no twisting in the wind, again, you can just press the home button. or you choosing to forget that fact i mentioned? :p if the phone's in my pocket, its just quicker to press home or the sleep button as i take it out of my pocket......

I've looked in settings before for this but can't find it. I can have my phone ring and vibrate, but also when I "flick the switch" into silent mode, it won't even vibrate?

What setting is it? If this works, you are the man/woman!!

I never alluded to the fact that there is not another method. With a visual indicator, I don't even have to touch my phone. Again which is faster and more convenient? How come you can't answer that simple question? Well no need, visual confirmation is faster.

whats simpler? pulling out the phone to see an led flashing then unlocking the phone or just unlocking....?

its under sounds, the very first item in there under silent.

If there is no indicator, there is no need to unlock, thus the reason for the indicator. Obviously this concept escapes you. It's OK, if you do not like the idea I respect that.

again i point out that going to the effort to take it out of a pocket, only takes minimal effort to just press the home or sleep button to see the screen....

the concept doesn't escape me, its just really not that necessary unless you can't be bothered to do a little effort. if the phone is not in my pocket, then even on silent, i'd see the screen light up.

anyway, thats all i'm saying on the matter.

Having switched from an iPhone to a BlackBerry, this is a "must-have" feature that the iPhone has to gain before I will consider switching back (the other is BBM... so basically I will never switch back).

whats the point of BBM when you have apps that run other messengers, like yahoo, msn, facebook, etc?

It is nice not having to pick up your phone to constantly check for email. If it's a feature you can disable, why do you care if it's there? Since when is another feature a bad idea?

Its always on, theres no logging in or out or hoping the person you want to contact is logged in theres also no need for third party support. Its also specific to your handset only due to the assigned pin's BB's have.
