It used to be surfing, email, shopping, occasional games and watching videos. As my iPad 2 got slower, and my iPhone became bigger (4.7") it's now solely used to watch videos.

As it's the wrong aspect ratio for that I think my next tablet will be a 10.1" Kindle Fire.

I bought a few just to use solely as an animated picture frame. I use 3M tape to mount on my walls. Looks ultra-pimp.

How does attaching iPads to one's walls with 3M tape look like a man who controls prostitutes? I am using the English definition of the word so I apologize if English is not your native language and there is a language barrier.

I use my iPad 3 for:

  • Web Browsing / email
  • Reading ebooks / PDFs
  • YouTube
  • Pandora
  • Facebook
  • Twitter
  • Storing Photos (via FileExplorer app)

iPad 4 mini:

information: web, flipboard, reddit, notes, reminders
finance: bank, numbers
shop: apple, etsy, amazon
social: twitter, telegram, messages, linkedin, tumblr, FaceTime
work: outlook, Skype for business
leisure: games, photo editing, dating
alarm to wake up :D

what am I NOT using:
work: cognos, excel (power pivots, ODBC links, vba), Remote Desktop

To completely replace my macbook with an iPad, Apple needs to up the software, and I'm not talking about a filesystem per se. Apple relies too much on 3rd party developers to fulfill software/business needs. But those developers have their own agenda. MS is never going to give the same functionalities of Excel to the mac/ios platform knowing that most businesses still need to rely on Windows also and Apple doesn't care as long as they sell.

Give it time. Adding functionality, like Visual Basic for Applications, safely into an app is not a trivial process. Last I heard, Microsoft even failed to get full Excel functionality into Windows 10 mobile.

I mostly use Safari, but occasionally I visit sites that just seem to work better on Chrome. Not often. But every now and then.

Like what? And how is Chrome better in those cases?

I'm really serious. I have an android tablet and chrome runs decently on it, but on the 6s, I use safari.

What I do is media consumption. Read books, browse the internet. Small amounts of productivity, mostly in the form of email.

I find productivity too cumbersome on it. It's not that I can't use MS Office on it... It's just way easier on my MBA. Besides the fact that there are some programs that I absolutely NEED to use on my laptop that have no functional equivalent on a tablet, I find the iPad most beneficial for small edits at the last second. I.e. for a presentation, fix spelling or something in PowerPoint, but I've already built the slideshow on my laptop. Same with a Word document or Excel spreadsheet.

Again, not saying it can't be done... But if I have the choice, I'll pick up my MBA to do substantial productivity things every time.

Top 5 Things I do on my iPad

-Read the MacRumors iPad forum
-Comic Books
-YouTube
-Browe the web
-Twitter via TweetBot

I think what most people do on iPads are similar to what most people do on laptops.

Browsing, e-mail, social media, online videos, news, etc.

Or it's a business strategy so businesses need to use windows.

My main criticism is on Apple for not making Numbers into a serious competitor. It would be great to see more than one professional spreadsheet program in the business world. They are one of the rare companies that can pull this off against MS. And they don't seem to want to...but claiming their iPad as a pro device and as a pc replacement with some watered down version of MS office suite...makes me

Apple's Business Strategy

No one buys a Mac or iOS device because of how well they work with productivity apps. Apple is primarily a hardware company, and anything they do is geared toward selling more Apple products. Do they want people to have a good experience using productivity apps on an Apple device? Yes. iWorks is a response to Microsoft being slow with Office updates. Microsoft got the message, and responded. Is Apple going to go out of it's way to create and maintain a productivity application when Microsoft is now producing one good enough for 90% or more of their customers? No. The ROI is not worth it.

Web browsing, social media, online shopping, viewing family iCloud photo album, sometimes music player, and sometimes document/keynote viewing

We all know the answer for this one.... Anyone seen Avenue Q?
=D
Just replace internet with iPad and you get the idea.

My iPad helps organize my life and helps me get things done in a more convent form factor.

It can't replace my phone or MacBook though. It's my most used device, but would be the first I'd give up.

  • Take on vacation to get some work done. If I took my Macbook I would end up working too much
  • Take notes in meetings - I think I have saved a handful of trees and eliminated physical waste
  • Distraction free writing and brainstorming
  • Catching up on TV episodes that I don't have time to watch on the plane. No movies because in flight entertainment has gotten pretty amazing :)
  • Virus free Pr0n :p
