I picked up a 32GB Green 5C for ATT yesterday. They had that one in stock, however they were showing me on their little iPhone check out devices they were sold out of quite a bit of the different variations on various carriers.

It's a popular phone. It's also a sturdy phone too. It's using Poly-carbonate plastic with a metal frame underneath. Not the normal cheap plastic we see from the likes of Samsung. It's built to be a solid phone.

See sold out of the 5c. Do people not realize there's 5 different color variations and two storage capacity's? If you get 6 of each in that's 60 phones compared to 15 5s's. I was in line Friday morning and my intention to get two 16gb 5s's turned into two 32 gb 5c's due to low stock. After I bought mine they had 4 5c's left and 1 64gb 5s left. So that's 56 5 c's to 14 5s's.

Lol everyone will be banned at some point. You can't say good things all the time. Sometimes you gotta tell it like it is.

There is a difference between criticizing something and blatently flaming it, with the desire to cause people to get upset. I have said my fair share to get the fanboy riled up. I have never been moderated (well, not for that, anyway lol).

In fact, not one person in our line of 100 people was waiting for the iPhone 5c. So, what are they going to do with all those phones?

My guess is sell them. I saw them activating more than a few on Friday morning, and a lot of people probably pre-ordered. Since the 5s wasn't available for pre-orders, we saw a disproportionate number of people lining up on Friday for the phone.

It's a great looking phone, feels nice in the hand. It's not cheap feeling at all. In fact, almost considered it if I wasn't upgrading from a 5.

So they were over prepared for one release but totally unprepared for the other?

If the 5c was selling as good as the 5s wouldn't you think it would be sold out and not fully shelved with people begging us to buy it when we call in looking for the 5s?

Or is the truth that neither are selling and they both offset each other's weaknesses?

This could also be true. Maybe neither one is selling great, but I do know that 5c's are sold out in some places. Not all but a few.

Call our Apple store, we have a full house.

If anyone is feeling ticked off they may need to get a glass of water.

If they (Apple) really wanted people to buy the phone, couldn't they have come up with a material other than plastic?

Why plastic?

Even if it could be less expensive? The Motorola phones are made out of wood. But, the conversations I'm hearing is that Apple is a way overstocked with 5c's they have way more than they know what to do with.

In fact, not one person in our line of 100 people was waiting for the iPhone 5c. So, what are they going to do with all those phones?

I think you are confusing the word overstocked with the word stocked. Just because they are running short on 5s doesn't mean anything about 5c. It likely means that they are really good at making the older components and the 5s is chockfull of newer parts with lower yields.

And they sold 9 million. So somebody was buying something.

..and if you haven't laid your hands on a 5C and actually used it, then your opinion is worthless.
I think people can tell whether they'd prefer an almost identical device made of quality plastic vs. aluminum/glass before they use it. The tactile difference will be minimal at most, not to mention it's an irrelevant comparison as most will put a plastic case over the aluminum/glass phone anyway (probably the plastic one as well). Most people understand that the 5C is an excellent, and well put together device, but are disappointed that Apple obviously significantly cut manufacturing costs on the 5C that are not at all reflected by it's price. It's a 5 with a nice plastic case for the same price. I prefer glass and aluminum to plastic on phones and I know that it's more expensive to manufacture - I don't want plastic at the glass and aluminum price. Apparently that makes me too demanding for the Apple apologists.

The typical solution would have been to continue to produce the 5 at a lower price. That's what they, historically, have done. This time they decided to EOL the previous model and replace it with a new colorful variant and very intentionally leave out black as an option. Therefore making anyone (mostly adult males) that want a black iPhone to have only 1 choice. The more expensive 5S. Pretty genius IMHO.

Apple should only have one metal phone on the market and it should be the more expensive flagship phone. Apple is making those who want a metal phone upsell to the 5s. Makes sense for business.

On another note, I don't think Apple is "overstocked" with the 5C. There is nothing difficult about producing it (and based on the leaks), they started production a while ago. Maybe Apple front loaded their Q4 supply with 5C units. Stock pile them up in advance and free up more assembly lines for increased 5s production through the quarter. That makes sense.

I'm not saying stock isn't full in most places, but the reason behind isn't that it's not selling... It's that they have more of the components to make the phone. I am pretty sure Apple is quite happy selling 2-3 million 5c's in its launch weekend and I'm not afraid to say that those number will catch up to the 5s's numbers as well. The target audience of the 5c aren't even the people that goes and stands in line waiting on the phone... "The early adapters." The 5c is the phone that'll be selling at Christmas and birthdays. I'm just saying if you compare the 5c numbers this year to the 4s numbers last year ... I'm sure it's double if not triple

I disagree with you. After I held one, my mind changed. They feel good in hand and fine built. Apple got it right on the pricing. This is apple not android.

Overstock? Wow! People in this forum truly amaze me!! There is no overstock of this phone. NONE. Apple did exactly what they wanted to do. The 5c has been up for pre-order since 9-13. Is it overstocked because it's not sold out? No!! Apple made sure they had Ample supply of the phone that needed ample supply. The 5c Is selling great. And it is a great phone

Exactly. Were people fretting last year about sales of the iPhone 4s in September and October? Probably not. The 5c is geared to the same type of crowd who bought the 4s last fall. Perhaps those people are upgrading from the 3GS they bought in 2011, or are finally getting their first smartphone, or getting rid of an old BlackBerry now that RIM is going private and abandoning the consumer market, or are getting a phone for a teenage child. Those people don't care about specs. They want a phone that works for calls and e-mails. They'll buy a phone when they need a new one, and aren't going to wait in line for 2 hours or even visit a crowded store last weekend to get one. The 5c is a way for them to get an iPhone for $99 on contract. It will sell well over time.

Went to an ATT store this morning and they we offering the iPhone 5C to everyone that walked into the store. Apple has now excess inventory of a plastic phone that nobody wants and has none of the 5S that is what people wanted. Also, who would pay that much money for an unlocked 5C?

How dramatic. Should they burn them and recycle the plastic in THREE DAYS of sales? Really? I'm glad Tim Cook is running the show, not some of the commenters here.

Sounds like you think your store represents all stores.

Apple reverse the right to sell cheap plastic cr@p at over inflated prices, because people will buy it regardless... I suppose you can't fault Apple, if people are going to be so stupid, who can blame them.

Ohh... Yeah they keep saying "5C! 5C! 5C!"

But nobody wants the 5C.

You can get it shipped in 24 hours, but no one is buying. And then the phone that people do want, they don't have.

Why.

How do you know that nobody is buying? Do you have insight into Apple's systems to check the sales numbers?

dude the shelves are full.

So is my local grocery store overstocked on everything in the store?

Having something in stock does not make it overstocked.

Did you consider the 3G and 3Gs cheap pieces of crap since they also had plastic cases?

Sorry, folks. Clinically insane (hundreds of posts about the C???) banned guy won't be replying and he was never to be reasoned with. Move along!

No. It's just that it feels like we can't get the 5s because Apple isn't as eager to sell those as they are the 5c.

LOL really?
