My 2012 MBA has a lot of miles on the clock so a whizzy new MBP is very tempting. Looking forward to tomorrow.

It will be great seeing some dedicated love to the Mac again, and it should be heaven for those in the market for a new MacBook Pro, but I will be left a bit disappointed if there is no new 5K external display or updated iMac design.

The iMac is in good shape spec wise (and still has the best display on the market), but if there was ever a time to unveil a 5K Thunderbolt 3 Display it would be at this event. If they don't, it would likely prove the tech just isn't ready, but Apple has always seemingly been ahead of the resolution game - whether it be the iPhone 4, Retina MacBook Pro, or the 5K iMac.

Sitting around and waiting for Cannonlake and DisplayPort 1.3 which would make this easier doesn't seem like their style because by then, any manufacturer will be able to pump out a 5K display that hooks up via a single cable. Hoping Apple work's it's magic to come up with some way to make this possible now and work well - eGPU in display, custom AMD graphics chip in the Mac, or a custom Thunderbolt 3 pipe...whatever it takes...make it happen!

Does anyone know if the new MBP will have BTO 32Gb of Ram and if old Magsafe MBP power adapters will work the new MBP if they have a usbc adapter?

"Finally"

Please rid yourself of this type of hyperbole, or, at least, rhetorical crutch. I come here for information, not lazy implicit editorializing.

What to expect?

High fives
Desperate whooping
Products described as amazing
People saying they are deeply passionate
People saying they believe profoundly
Cheesy camera shots of excited viewers

...and all to introduce three updated computers, years late, and perhaps a hint of "jam tomorrow" for a lineup that is still woefully inadequate and outdated.

Yeah. Everything will be "awesome, magical, beautiful, revolutionary, amazing" - as always. And we will totally not miss any of the things that they have removed. And other "great products are filling the pipeline" and will be announced "later". Oh, and let's not forget that they will show some entirely useless numbers of "adoption rates" of the new service pack - macOS Sierra - and let's compare them to the adoption rate of Windows 10 (of which hundreds of millions of copies MORE are in actual use, but hey, those meaningless adoption rate percentages look better for Apple, so let's stick with them).

I guess the only reason why they still sell Macs is that they are afraid of letting Xcode run natively on the iPad. But that would require them to actually open iOS and turn it into an operating system that deserves that name, and that's not going to happen.

If the iMacs were simply adjusted to permit being used as an external display, as an option, that would quiet a lot of folks.

We do this right now in our offices. Guests visting from our satellite offices can plug their MacBooks into an iMac and use it as a second display.

  1. Make sure both computers are turned on.
  2. Connect the Mini DisplayPort or Thunderbolt cable between the two computers.
  3. Press Command-F2 on the keyboard of the iMac that you want to use as a display.

That guy in the video needs to be removed. His enthusiasm is beyond outdated. Hey video guy: be more cheery and find more infos about Mac Pro. I don't need #lowselfesteem.

Hey can someone explain to a bit of a noob why having the stand alone display with dedicated GPU is so important - if at all? It sounds great but what would be major advantage? Who would find the most use for the dedicated GPU advantage? (Gamers, Video Editing, etc)

Also predict Apple will (eventually, if not immediately) release a standalone keyboard with the OLED touch panel so those with iMacs / Mac Minis / docking their MB can use this feature.

Good way to charge a solid $100+ for an accessory

You can Not do this with the 5k iMac. That is what the conversation was referring to.

I like my current rMBP.

I don't really need a new computer. I've had mine since ~Jan 2014 so almost 3 years.

It has been a true Blessing.

Works great. No problems.

It is nice to be genuinely excited about an Apple event. the iPhone ones are okay and WWDC was alright but just wish Apple would say "no new Macs will be released at this time" before those so I don't get my hopes up lol.

Regardless of whether they update iMacs / Mac Mini / Mac Pro, I'm still very excited to see new Apple computers - finally! Event the most depressed of us have got to be a little bit more interested in watching this one vs. the last 3 or 4 ?

I can't believe some people. They moan for years that the MBP has not been updated and now, there's this exciting event for Thursday and now, they moan that it won't be exciting or there's something wrong with the MBP even though they haven't seen it. For God sake, get more out of life, make friends, go to the gym, go boating o surfing or cycling, travel and enjoy the event on Thursday!

How about an update to the Macbook pro with a graphics card that isn't obsolete? Put an NVIDIA 1060/1070 in there, or at least an option for that.
