I don't think we will see a MacBook Air update, I think Ming-Chi-Chow is right, an Apple will announce a 13" MacBook, the 13" Air may remain to be the entry level for people who can't afford much more, but I do think when the prices of the MacBook start to drop, the Air will be discontinued.

I expect there to be one or more self-aggrandizing PR videos that will take up a significant portion of the event timeline ... much like there has been at past Apple announcements. Narrated by Jony Ive, of course.

'We've scoured the Earth and beyond in search of the perfect material to use for this new MacBook Pro, but we couldn't find anything that lived up to our standard, so we made our own ... Adamantaluminium."
I know I'm not the only one who read that in "That Voice."

Damn, I hope they don't actually get rid of the MagSafe port, USB-A ports, the HDMI port, and the SD card slot.

This would be ideal: MagSafe 2, 1x USB-A, HDMI, SD card, 2x Thunderbolt 2, 2x USB-C with USB Power Delivery and Thunderbolt 3.

With a thinner MBP 13" - why bother with a Mac Book Air 13" without retina? Obviously the new budget model. Especially if they reduce bezel on the MBP 13".

Hey can someone explain to a bit of a noob why having the stand alone display with dedicated GPU is so important - if at all? It sounds great but what would be major advantage? Who would find the most use for the dedicated GPU advantage? (Gamers, Video Editing, etc)

I think the main idea is the dedicated GPU would help handle the load powering a 5K display would have on say, a 12" MacBook. So it would be able to be used by any Mac.

Apple should have the courage to admit that the cylindrical Mac Pro is a bad design, and release a Mac Pro tower again. Apple's pride is doing nothing but hindering their customers. If they showed even just a shred of humility, they'd gain so many customers back.
Tim: "Ladies and gentlemen....I heard your voices...loud and clear. Today, we are going back in time...to release......TOWER MAC PRO!!!!"

Big question for me is whether the memory will be replaceable or soldered to the motherboard. That will determine what advice I give my daughter, who began college two months ago and has been waiting patiently for the new MacBook Pros.

I can't believe some people. They moan for years that the MBP has not been updated and now, there's this exciting event for Thursday and now, they moan that it won't be exciting or there's something wrong with the MBP even though they haven't seen it. For God sake, get more out of life, make friends, go to the gym, go boating o surfing or cycling, travel and enjoy the event on Thursday!
I can't believe people are moaning about people who are moaning about machines they haven't seen. What's wrong with them!

What to expect?

High fives
Desperate whooping
Products described as amazing
People saying they are deeply passionate
People saying they believe profoundly
Cheesy camera shots of an excited gallery
A corny joke or two to gloss over the fact that Apple have done precious little for Mac users for years now, other than introduce joke machines like the new Mac Mini.

...and all to introduce three updated computers, years late, and perhaps a hint of "jam tomorrow" for a lineup that is still woefully inadequate and outdated.

No minorities on stage
all middle aged white guys in jeans and an shirt with the top 2 buttons unbuttoned and carefully wrinkled.
Although last keynote they finally had a woman on stage who gave one of the worst and stupidest presentations ever - oooh, look at the power of Keynote (plain black slide with white text - woooowwww.....ahhhh...)

Think Different... :)

hello MacPad

I would absolutely love a MacPad.
  • iPad Pro 12.9 sized screen with a
  • Smart keyboard attachment but with a trackpad
  • Connected to the smart keyboard, the devices acts as a mac and runs full the MacOS
  • Un-dock it, it runs iOS 10.
  • New option for universal apps to allow a user to purchase a Mac App and also have access to the iOS app withthe files are automatically shared between the two.
  • Apple Pencil support
  • Smart Keyboard has a spot for Apple Pencil that will also inductively charge it.
I know this sounds a lot like a surface Pro, but I would buy one of these in a heart beat.

I remember how many broken charging cables, ports and even whole computers (when someone would trip over a cable and send the entire laptop to the floor) we had to contend with before the days of MagSafe.

Why is Apple taking us back there?

I'll be really upset if apple only has a few ports on their "Pro" computer. The Air and Macbook already provide a purpose to those who need the ultimate portability. The Pro is for those who want something in between.

Honestly they DO NOT need to change the iMac design at all. It is perfect. All that needs to happen is upgrade the FaceTime Camera and the internals. MacPro - Who the f*** knows. I can't think of one reason they'd have to not upgrade it. But apparently they love screwing over pro users thinking they can use a bloody iPad Pro as a Macbook Pro.

Brilliant!

Imagine if they made the trackpad bigger and compatible with the Apple Pencil. See now that would change everything. Imagine not having to bring a Wacom tablet with you, that's super expensive and bigger than the machine itself and only holds about 3 minutes of charge. Imagine drawing and editing photos in Photoshop on the go — while sitting in a car or waiting at the airport. Something that can't be done today at all without a desk.

What?!?!?! No HDMI port? One of the only reasons I've been considering the pro over the air is the ability to utilize 2 external screens - one being my TV via HDMI. A little disappointed.

I really think apple should update the mini
Yeah, the mini was (is?) a very good low-end/entry-level machine. When I was first thinking of dipping my foot into the mac pool, I didn't want to make a huge investment when I wasn't sure I would stick with it and the mini was exactly what I needed.

I wonder how many people who complain/complained about the lack of a headphone jack ended up buying an iPhone 7 anyway, realizing that it's not actually an issue big enough to warrant not upgrading.

I still haven't, and don't plan to.

I use the headphone jack, and charge at the same time, every day, and can't justify spending an additional $50-$150 to allow a brand new $700 phone to chew gum and walk at the same time.

I won't be upgrading unless something catastrophic happens to my 6. This is the first time in years that I haven't upgraded every other year (or even annually) as in years past.

Quote: There have been no [Mac Pro] rumors suggesting an update is in the works...

I think everyone should keep in mind that the Mac Pro is assembled in the US and as such, part leaks are much less likely vs. other products. Will it be updated On Thursday? I have no idea, but I would say it's a greater than 50% probability.

I'd like that very much but I'm not holding out even 50% hope. I expect I'll only be able to replace my MacBook Pro Thursday. If I can order a new Mac Pro as well that will be a very nice surprise.
