Is no one seriously going to mention how BAD the 4.7" model needs an upgrade in terms of screen PPI? Compared to 4" iPhone 5S and Plus the 4.7 looks like a peasant. It was one of the reasons I decided to return it when I first bought it and go back to my 5S.

If anything, the MAIN upgrade should be a drastic bump in screen quality because its very pixelated compared to the models I mentioned.

so sad we have users here so misinformed

If the 6S has 2GB RAM, then my 6+ is not upgrading to iOS9.

Last time that happened with iOS8, given that only the Air 2 has 2GB RAM, my iPad3 became almost useless speedwise.

Thousands of people already have late betas of iOS 9 running on their 6 and 6+. I'd think if it was a performance drain in the way you're describing, it would already be known. Also, your example doesn't quite hold because the iPad 3 was a lot further behind when iOS 8 came out than the iPhone 6+ will be with iOS 9.

FWIW, though there may be some bugs, I don't notice any performance loss on my 6 with iOS 9. And some of the features are going to be invaluable (Safari content blocking may even make your 1 GB of RAM go a little further when browsing :)

Gruber says no event in October, which to means no Mac laptop updates this fall. Will be interesting to see how Apple pulls this off in roughly 2 hours without rushing through things.

Lot of little birdies out tonight in San Francisco. The consensus is that there’s only going to be one Apple event this fall, and it’s tomorrow. So if there’s an iPad Pro, it’s coming tomorrow, no matter how much or how little sense that makes.

Why do they need an event to announce laptop updates though? Maybe for a new model like the Macbook, but just spec bumps, new chips, etc. could just pop up any morning like they have in the past.

I don't doubt Apple can cram a computer into a tablet form factor. The problem is that OSX is not touch capable yet. Microsoft invested heavily into touch OS's so right now they are ahead in that market.
That is one thing I don't understand. With the trackpad, that has a lot of the aspects of the touch OS in OS X. Where the touch interface is located is a matter of placement. It would seem that the software interface is already there.

Maybe it will run longer than 2 hours? Maybe 2 and a half. There has got to be a reason Apple are updating everything at this event rather than holding the 2 separate events like usual. Still I'm looking forward to seeing the iPad Pro!

Looking forward to this.

I'd like some software updates for iWork as well as the new OS releases. They normally get released in October but if there's no October event, would be nice to see them today.

Updates to iCloud Storage tiers would be welcomed too. I would say 20GB free is reasonable. I pay for 200GB.

YES! This needs to happen at some point. I loath digital zoom and never use it.

So my crap 6+ will become even more crap and annoying tomorrow when I learn there's a new, better version out that corrects all the faults. Way to go Apple, an iPhone used to be good for 24 months but this POS has been trouble since day one.

The 6+ is a fantastic phone. Faults? What faults? Bendgate is not an issue if you use a good case and don't try and bend it, obviously.

You have no idea what you're saying. You can't notice pixels with 326 ppi, stop trolling.

All good points, but I would like to touch on price. Microsoft is desperately trying to gain traction with windows phone. While it has grown, it's nowhere near where it needs to be for it to be a long term success. They're selling their phones at bargain basement prices (with decent specs, mind you) to try and grab a consumer base.

This is great for the consumer who finds windows phone suitable. I don't see prices like that lasting forever if the platform takes off.
Mrs. thequik was a beta tester for the Windows Phone, and she loved it. I also appreciated the phone as well, as it was a nice bit of hardware to bounce things off of. A few minor things about it...
1. It didn't connect to Apple Server Contacts and Calendar, so I had to fire up my Windows Server again for Exchange (this is a good thing. I am a much better Exchange admin than an Apple Mail Server admin)
2. We have to buy apps twice.
3. I am a kinesthetic learner, so helping her was difficult, as I hadn't experienced the phone as she did, so I was forever being the dumb one on it.

However, having both in our house taught me one thing: We're at a great place with technology. It's like having a BMW (my personal favorite), Mercedes, Lexus, and a Tesla at our disposal. They're all good cars, and it's just a matter of taste of what you prefer to drive (I've only driven the BMW and Mercedes, so I cannot comment on the Lexus and the Tesla cars... yet.) So it is with Apple, Windows, and Android phones. We're just quibbling about the details now.

The rear shell will still have a layer of anodization to protect against corrosion and allow for different color options, including space gray, silver, gold and a new rose gold color. The new color should look similar to the rose gold Apple Watch Edition.

I'd like to see them surprise us with some more color options aside from Rose Gold, like the Slate iPhone 5, but I won't get my hopes up for any new additional colors until next year.

Just because tomorrow they are announcing the new model, it doesn't mean that your 6Plus is all of a sudden going to stop working, it just means that there will be a better-specd device. There is a new phone ever ~year with some exceptions, and now even Android is on that same page specifically with the Galaxy S and Tab.

PLUS -- at this point it is your own fault for having a "crap 6+". There is a return policy on every phone, if it was crap from day one it is your own fault for not returning it and getting something you consider better.

You missed my point. The 6+ has been crap since unboxing and knowing that there's a new model out which *fixes* the problems the 6+ has will be a further kick in the teeth.
If the 6+ didn't have insufficient RAM, didn't springboard crash, didn't freeze, didn't reload apps, didn't reload webpages, didn't scroll slowly etc etc then I would be perfectly happy keeping it for another year. It's the fact that I was sold a duffer phone and then 12 months later they're bringing out what the 6+ should have been all along that's the problem here.

The 6+ is the worst iPhone ever released. It's an underspecced, badly designed phone that never worked properly from day one.

Then you should've returned it if it was crap since unboxing.
And are you really pointing out that a year newer iPhone will be better than the old one? Surprise, surprise?

Again, you're missing my point. My phone has *never* been good and I'm not bemoaning the fact that a new phone is better. I'm bemoaning the fact that the old phone has never worked properly.

I'm assuming you think no 6+ has ever worked properly? Because if not, then your phone is defective and you should have had it replaced. And you did say it was crap out of the box, which suggests you should have immediately returned it during the return period.

If you still like iPhones and think the new one is going to be better (which of course it will be), you could probably sell your 6+ (assuming again, it's not defective :) )and upgrade for not that much.

It isn't just my phone and there have been countless threads about it. The 6+ has insufficient RAM and also the scaling/non-native super high-res display causes issues with needing to be constantly scaled to HD. The phone has insufficient power and it performs worse than the 4.7" version as a result. Even the 4.7" i6 has insufficient RAM and reloads browser tabs and apps way more readily than the iPhone 5. That's not progress.

This household: current gen AppleTV and XBox One connected to the TV, my 2011 Mac mini, her brandnew Dell touchscreen laptop, our two Surface 3's, me a Lumia 1320, she, with her smaller hands, a Lumia 640. iPods in both cars (nano in hers, 30 GB 5G in mine). She uses Here maps on her phone for navigation, I'm using the TomTom branded one built into my dash.

We like technology. Well, I like technology and she appreciates it. ;)
