Without wanting to repeat myself (or others) : doesn't this look like the most boring Apple event to date ?

As was the case in the last couple of years, it looks like we already know 95% of everything that will be presented today, with just some details left to be filled in. I really want to be surprised, but I guess the globalization and the internet have killed much of the excitement nowadays (as I mentioned in another thread : remember Macworld '07 : now that was excitement and heartfelt emotion). That first page post of BMcCoy really nails it imho.

I find it hard te get excited with the products that are more evolutionary than revolutionary the last couple of years (I hope they dispense with the term "magical" today...) The iPad was the last of that kind, IMO. The :apple: Watch is nice (even nicer than I thought it would be - it has become my primary watch which I hadn't expected), but at the same time it is hardly revolutionary. It is something that the others already did, but a little nicer and better executed, at least for now. Today we'll get a new Phone, a larger iPad, a new set top box and some watch bands and colors. Wow... hardly. I wish and hope I'm wrong and there's more to it, which would make me VERY excited indeed ;).

PS: kinda disappointed in the "no new iPad air" rumor, as my iPad 3 gets old and scratchy and really want to replace it, but it feels just wrong to replace it with 1 year old tech. Unless it gets a healthy price reduction (not much hope on that I'm afraid).

PPS: doubly disappointed in the no new Macs rumors. Not that I expect them to introduce anything Mac-related on this event, but what about an update for the Mac Pro ??? Or at least an indication that it's coming soon !

The "Hey, Siri" tagline is for two things.

The first: Apple TV
The second: Always-on Siri for the 6s and 6s Plus

(The fact you'll need to say "Hey, Siri" to activate the features.)
So long as this works similar to Google now I would be happy with this.

And I'm going to be "that guy" and say that this has been available on a mid range (in terms of price; $300) Android device for going on two years. It works remarkably well, too.

There's a new post on 9to5mac about Apple not having an October event this year.

Here's my theory, they've essentially moved the October event to March, for the Apple Watch. Although it's not the 'same event' they still have three events a year, they are just more spred out.

Instead of June, September and October

we now have

March, June and September

I have a Lumia 1320 and the wife has a 640. Point 1: the GUI is finally a step forward from the "static icons aligned on a grid" first seen in 1996 on the Palm Pilot. Point 2: no unwanted bloatware that can't be uninstalled. Point 3: my 1320 was $262 shipped, plus a bit more for a memory card. The iPhone 6+ with 64 GB storage is $849.00 plus tax. Is it a nicer phone, not counting points 1 and 2? Sure, definitely. Is it $657 nicer? Uh... nah. And the wife's 640 was only a $100.
All good points, but I would like to touch on price. Microsoft is desperately trying to gain traction with windows phone. While it has grown, it's nowhere near where it needs to be for it to be a long term success. They're selling their phones at bargain basement prices (with decent specs, mind you) to try and grab a consumer base.

This is great for the consumer who finds windows phone suitable. I don't see prices like that lasting forever if the platform takes off.

Isn't it likely there's be a greater focus on Siri? OK, it /could/ just be the use on Apple TV, but I'd like to see some serious improvements on all platforms.

lots of the same old, same old sprinkled with disappointment and disbelief at the lack of innovation...

Here's my prediction: The new Apple TV won't replace the existing Apple TV.

The iPhone is a mature product at this point, it gets updated every year, and most of us probably have more tech than we could possibly need. so I'm not surprised by all the whining about what a letdown this release is.

I think the extra RAM, faster processor, and improved camera rumors (if true) signal a much more significant update to the iPhone line than the 6 and 6+ were (minus the larger display sizes) and I'm looking forward to hearing about it today.

Youre joking right? The same PPI is stretched to 4.7 inches vs. 4" on the 5S...that says it all. The most its stretched the more pixelated it becomes.
No, I'm not joking.

Do you know what PPI means? Pixels per inch. The iPhone 6 has the same pixels per inch as any other "retina" iPhone except the 6+. If you don't believe me, do the math, google it- I can't believe you wouldn't have already, though. 326 PPI. A 64 x 64 icon on the iPhone 6 is the same size as a 64 x 64 icon on a 5s. Why? Same pixels per inch. The iPhone 6 is not "stretched" when compared to the 5s and I'm actually kinda surprised you think so, and someone upvoted your comment :)

Here, I'll do some work for you: http://www.displaymate.com/iPhone6_ShootOut.htm

Scroll down to the chart comparing iPhone displays. Yup, 326 PPI on both the iPhone 5 and iPhone 6.

Straight from the mothership: http://www.apple.com/iphone/compare/

Yup Iphone 6, iPhone 5s, iPhone 5, all 326 ppi.

Still don't believe me?

I agree. It looks INCREDIBLY dated after seeing it next to the MacBook Retina and for me, the silver is very 2001.
The color would be easy to change, otherwise I can find no fault with the current rMBP design, given the much faster processor they can't just thin it down to rMB levels.

Still no spoiler-free link MacRumors?

Wait - there's one more thing...

For the first time since 2012, we are radically upgrading the 15" Macbook Pro. Now with SkyLake processors featuring AVX 3.2, six USB-C ports compatible with TB 3, HDMI 2.2, Displayport 3.2, PCIe3, and Wi-Di. Full support for 2 external 4K monitors or one external 8K monitors. Dual internal discrete GPUs. Support for external GPUs over Displayport. Options for 32GB DRAM and a 2 TB SSD internal drive. Plus new Audio-file quality on on board 50-watt speakers, with 20Hz-20KHz dynamic range. All with 24 hour battery life. And... we're bringing back the Kensington Lock, because a $4,000 laptop isn't something you just leave lying on a park bench.

That my friend would be the best apple event ever.....if only it finished something like all for $999...
