Quit fracturing the product line with stupidly named/rebranded products. Why couldn't this be released at just another size option as part of the iPhone 7 line in September?

iPad Pro? Makes about as much sense as jumping from iPad 4 to iPad Air.
can't agree more with you man,it makes choosing an iphone very cumbersome(which is something I always liked about Apple how streamlined and simple it was, well not anymore),they are doing the same with the macbooks I really hope that new MacBook retina to go away and redesign the air and pro as they should, nobody is going to buy a mac with an underpowered intel M processor, that's ****!!!!,better add a retina display to the air and make everyone happy!!!!.

Apple will hold its first event of 2016 next Monday, and while it won't be as exciting as last year's event that saw the launch of the Apple Watch, Apple is planning to introduce several new products. Headlining the event will be the 4-inch iPhone SE, Apple's first 4-inch iPhone since 2013.

Joining the iPhone SE will be a new 9.7-inch iPad, a range of new Apple Watch bands, and software updates for iOS 9, watchOS 2, tvOS, and OS X El Capitan.

Yawn. The smallest incremental update to the iPhone yet. A new version of the niche smaller iPad. A new version of the watch that still doesn't make any sense. But the MacBook pro is lagging badly behind, the Mac Pro and Mini have practically been abandoned, and recent macbook with a single USB-C is just not a good machine. I know that the iphones sell orders of magnitude more than the laptop and desktop hardware, but unless the entire ecosystem is balanced Apple will open the door for people to move on.

2016 August: Apple vs the Government of the United States: Apple wins the case against hacking the iPhone. The three supreme judges rule that just as man has the right to remain silent, so no man or company can be compelled to do anything which they feel is morally wrong.

2017 August: Congress passes a law making it illegal to sit in a driverless car without a driver in control. Apple shares plunge. Apple is rumoured to be announcing a new iCar in its next keynote speech in the autumn.

2020 August: Congress makes it illegal for drivers to control driverless cars. Drivers were blamed for 99% of all vehicle accidents.

"We know iPad/tablet market has reached saturation.
We could of course make our iPads cheaper, to sell the latest high tech models at a lower price, so you can replace your 4 year old iPads and buy a high tech new iPad for a low price. Because they are high tech you' ll not replace this newer iPad for the next 6 years, and because we sell them cheaper now , iPad revenue will fall even further, R&d costs will be reduced and revenue will be close to zero the next 6 years.
We will have to abandon the market, because we don' t make money anymore from the iPad . App development will stall , no more progress. So please people , all buy the latest iPad at lower prices and let us be done with it." Quote Tim Cook

No Apple did the smart thing by releasing a iPad Pro with more possibilities than just a standard tablet, instead of releasing just another minor soc upgrade and make it thinner for the same money. That would have been the easy way but won' t push the tablet past its current function as a simple media consumption device, that is leading to a dead end...
Because adding pencil support instantly makes a certain device "pro" lol. Oh... and 4 speakers of course. Definitely of critical value for a "pro" device.
Forget about the simplest things like a file manager, without which a pro device is useless, or SF stuff like using your tablet as a portable drive, or having an SD card slot, or a USB port, all of which are critical for file management, and none of which are possible with an iPad "Pro".

Apple to it's loyal customers: We know iPad sales are down, but we really love our customers. In order to keep revenue up, we are going to do something really nice for you. We will re-brand the iPad you know and love as a "pro" model, and we will charge you $100.00 more because we really need to stay profitable, and we need growth at all costs. Well not at all costs, just at about $100 cost. We understand our customers care more about our stock value than what they have to pay for our products as consumers, so we consider this a win/win! You get to own a "pro" iPad, and we get billions of dollars. If only we could solve the woes of the Middle East with a $100 price increase for iPhone 7... But we have a plan, you can buy our iPad pencil for another $100 and boom! World peace!!! Ask not what Apple can do for you, but ask what you can do for Apple. ~Tim
I don't like how apple uses pro for monetary purpose. Maybe it's time they fall on their knees and be grateful.

I think it's pretty clear by now; Apple is no longer interested in computer making.
Pretty much... But we can thank the buyers for that...including me.

I wish the iPad Pro would have an SD slot and USB. Apple doesn't seem to understand those simple low cost upgrades could bring so much more capabilities just like what the App Store did with software. iOS 10 could be upgraded to provide the file manager and multiple user support.

Why does it have to be a slot? The iPad already supports sd cards and usb via an adapter ... And multi-user support is coming Monday likely.

Also, Lightning 2 supports USB 3.0. So a simple port adapter cable is all that's needed, assuming Apple enables software support as they have done with the camera connection kit. SD seems long in the tooth anyway, and unecessary considering iCloud AirDrop, and most new cameras support wifi.

Right on, that would be awesome. Especially a 17" macbook pro. But it was a niche product, selling a few per store a month (per 2-3 store owners I talked to before they were discontinued); I do not see it coming back.

I read every single post in this thread and what's striking is everyone complained about something from pants to a brand new iPhone 7 potentially having sapphire glass and features up the ass being "boring" and "yawn". I'm starting to think Apple's problem is that they set a pace that is simply not possible to keep up with. Maybe they should have half-assed everything like all the other companies. Then at least all your complaints would be warranted.

There +1 to the only person that didn't complain about **** in this entire thread.

Yeah the 17" was more wishful thinking, but not really for me but a lot of people I know on here who love them. It also made my structure work out better, lol. But you're right, it won't happen.

Funny you mention about Apple adding too many features when people would complain every year about them not adding enough and lagging behind. For me a solid iPhone 7 upgrade would be the dual camera system, OIS, improved battery, modest performance improvements as per usual, and water resistance similar to the Apple Watch.

Many of my wishes are for iOS X features, such as expanded 3D Touch, iPhone PIP, customizable control center, advanced iPad Pro features such as more consistent keyboard integration across the system and a better way to manage files for creative projects between apps, along with services improvements to iCloud and multiple person FaceTime.

After recently having my iPhone slip two feet off my lap onto my patio, even when in a case with a front lip, it managed to scuff the top and bottom of the glass—luckily outside the bounds of the screen. So I'd like a sapphire coating, the antenna bands reduced across the back, and an option for a space black version with the hardened carbon coating similar to the Apple Watch. I'm also looking forward to the day when the bezels can be significantly reduced. But given battery life requirements (internal volume), it will probably be a while.

Given that this device is rumored to be a variation of the 6/6s design maybe we will get a more complete refresh sooner than expected? Doesn't fit their pattern but who knows. They've never released an iPhone in March either so yeah, lol.

Perhaps 4gb memory, desktop class soc.
Lightning is a port that supports usb 3.0.
Pencil application and display is certainly superior and more precise than a PRO Wacom tablet or a Microsoft surface pro.
why is a USB port and sd card slot critical for filemanagement? Where I work I'm not allowed to even connect an external drive or SD card to my pc, I have to use cloud services .
iOS should have filemanagement though, I guess after the launch iOS pro will also be launched with more desktop like features.
You are kind of short sighted, looking at where the puck is now, you are not looking where the puck is going.
SD cards and usb drives for pc' s? Ancient history , and that is not what I would call pro. In modern businesses it is all about cloud syncing several devices to share files.

I'm disappointed in the current Macbook line-up. It seems like it is impossible to buy an Apple laptop without making a compromise. Incredibly annoying, and it doesn't seem like the Air will be receiving an upgrade.

The Air is approaching end-of-life, methinks. The latest MBP's are already pretty thin and light-- the difference between the 13" MBP and 13" MBA is really only the severe wedge shape of the Air, at the wide end they're the same. I think the 12" Macbook is where the Air line is heading. That thing is frighteningly thin and light.

Perhaps, but the Macbook Pro is severly overkill for me (specwise). The 12" Macbook has an awkward keyboard and lack of I/O ports. That leaves the Macbook Air, which would be perfect for me, but it has a 2010 screen.

Yeah, that seems to be the approach these days-- extreme portability or decent performance but not a lot shades of grey.

The same complaints were made about the Air when it came out-- too thin, not a lot of expansion. The main thing missing from the 12" is that it can't interface with a Thunderbolt display. With an adapter or two, you can connect to most other stuff:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204360

I haven't used it enough to get comfortable with the keyboard, but I suspect I would. The trackpad is awesome on that one. I'd hope the next gen goes to Thunderbolt 3 so that the USB C connector is more useful.

Of course they understand. It's why they don't do it. A 128GB iPad with a steep $ premium would be a tougher sell when the customer could just buy the entry level storage model + a less expensive 128GB U3 SD card elsewhere. It's the same logic Apple used when it scaled back on selling Macs that have easy access to RAM and storage: Apple wants to insure they are getting the upgrade money.
