what happened to the iPod?!? Been MIA for 4 years now.

I think the iPhone has essentially cannibalized most of the market for iPod Touch. What remains of the market is probably small enough that Apple isn't interested in putting to many resources into it. I bought my wife a waterproof iPod Nano with waterproof earphones last Christmas for her to use while lap swimming and she absolutely loves it so I know there is still some demand for speciality versions at least.

About the only thing that might be interesting is if they update iTunes / Apple Music on the Mac. I'm sure the new guy on the board who was interviewed recently alluded to a Spring / March refresh of iTunes, but there hasn't been much else mentioned about it.

I use AM, but would agree the UI on the Mac is currently pretty poor, and is in need of some attention.

The new phone will be underwhelming to a lot of people, but then its probably not aimed at them.

Also, why is everybody so convinced that Loop=Watch band? Will there be new bands? Sure yeah. But I have this gut feeling there is more to it and the loop has a different/additional meaning...

Is an Apple Car announcement anywhere in the realm of possibility? If Apple needs to start road trials this year, and have to get public regulatory approval, then maybe they do need to hold an event to announce it publicly. Perhaps they've reached the point where they can no longer keep it under wraps and rather than risk leaks, they'd rather showcase it, at least some of it. That certainly fits with the "loop" metaphor, and definitely worthy of an event ...

Yeah, I totally agree!

So it either will be some improvements in the MB and a significant drop in the price for the MB, or they have to keep the MBA around just a little while longer.

I actually just looked it up. When the MBA was introduced and still way under-powered yet over-priced (it's hard to grasp for how much the MBA sold back then), the then-MB stuck around for over three more years, until the MBA had caught up. Let's hope for the best.

And yeah of course I was talking about the rMBP ;) The other is completely out of the question for anything.

Yeah that would make sense, MB simply shouldn't cost so much. However, I highly doubt Apple would do a price drop here, considering they are still charging the same price for TB display, same price for 2013 MacPro... etc.

Also interesting info on past Macbooks, I wasn't really in the loop (haha see what I did there?) with apple stuff back then, so.

I may have to look for a new company to engage with if Apple thinks a 4 inch iPhone is exciting. I sure don't.

Seriously? This iPhone is not meant to be the new flagship, it's just there to allow some users to actually upgrade, as many refuse to move up to a larger phone.

Just because you don't think a particular product is exciting doesn't mean it/the entire company is a failure. People have different interests/preferences than you, you know. Silly reason to switch companies. I hope you are joking.

iPhone SE is an iPhone 5c updated but with toned down colors.

And with much more premium materials/specs! :D

It's really not necessary to have whole event if this is honestly what they're planning on announcing. Smaller versions of things they've already made? COOL AWESOME WOW. You've really done it again Apple!

I honestly hope they don't announce any of this trash and they blast our faces off with a whole new line of Macs.

I just want to know when iOS 9.3 and tvOS 9.2 are being released. Everything else..... Meh!

Or even better, announce all the trash AND blast our faces off with an whole new line of Macs!

There's been a ton of Mac discussion for the past page or so but it really needs an absolute overhaul, the entire lineup is a giant "wtf" at the moment, it's become more and more apparent from this discussion

It should be something more like:

Retina MacBook 12" -starts at $899, space gray, silver, gold, rose gold

Retina MacBook Air 11" -starts at $1099, new design, retina, colors above
Retina MacBook Air 13" -starts at $1199, new design, retina, colors above

Retina MacBook Pro 13" -starts at $1299, new design, retina, colors above
Retina MacBook Pro 15" -starts at $1999, new design, retina, colors above

-Also, NO MORE 128GB SSD MACBOOKS, NO SUB-8GB OF RAM. All skylake, all retina, all force touch, all have the color options, etc.. That would be the dream lineup I think. Also no more old old non retina MacBook Pro. Also, whoever gets a rose gold MacBook, god help them.

Anyway, then obviously have the underlying little upgrades you could get for each model if you so desire. That still is sort of confusing, but the way it is now, with the old MacBook Pro thrown in, the MacBook Air being super outdated, the 12" MacBook with inferior specs costing the same as the superior 13" MacBook Pro... It's a mess. This seems cleaner and just a lot better. Nothing that good will ever happen though, I don't think.

I'm hoping I'll get another couple of years out of my air 2.
I just upgraded my first iPad this year to the Air 2. It's been great. I don't really have any reason to upgrade for another 3 years. No wonder iPad sales are down. People hang onto them until the current iOS update takes away speed, features and the ability to upgrade apps.
I won't be able to watch this keynote because of work this year. I'm very interested in the 5se(or whatever they call it) as my 5s , i think, is going to be long in the tooth for future iOS updates. Don't really care about 3D Touch.
Other than that, I think the rabbit is dead....but hopefully Tim is combing though the dictionary for new adjectives.
Bottom line, to me, the product line is stale...

Quit fracturing the product line with stupidly named/rebranded products. Why couldn't this be released at just another size option as part of the iPhone 7 line in September?

iPad Pro? Makes about as much sense as jumping from iPad 4 to iPad Air.

Well I'm using an iPad 4 now so that iPad Pro makes perfect sense to me :D Not gonna buy the (still very good) but over-one-year old Air 2

They actually updated the iPod touch with pretty decent specs a little over year ago in the fall of 2014. I know because I bought one, and it's great. I love my iPod touch. It has an 8mp camera and fast A8 chip. Before that it was a few years since they updated it, and many people speculated Apple was going to discontinue it...but they didn't. The question is, will they update it again this fall? That I dunno.

Hell yeah!

Though I do think they could drop that 11'' Air. And probably adding $100 to each is more in Apple's ballpark. Also, with this lineup, there need to be a significant increase in power from MBA to MBP or else the rMBP doesn't have much of an added benefit...

Sometimes my humor does not come thru in text :) But really, although I agree it is a good business decision, you have to admit that watch bands are not really worthy of a worldwide event :)

I feel the same, and suspect we will need to wait till June for the really exciting stuff :)

Actually it's Monday. the court hearing is Tuesday

Not another "Steve Jobs wouldn't let this happen." Look up Steve Jobs fails of all time. He wasn't magical.

So basically Apple has spoiled you soooo much with new technology that you have escalated to asking for things that don't make sense or are just not possible physically and/or technology is 2-3 years away. Let's take a breather. Fully aware it's a dream list, but if that's the list to make you happy, add "cure for cancer" at the end. I'm sure Apple can do it, and if they can't, Steve would have not let Apple not create a cure for cancer.

You not wanting one does not negate the millions of millions of people that love theirs and find them extremely useful. Comparing them to pants or just that analogy is bothersome since one is a fad as in fashion, serves no purpose other than showing something off, while the other has functionality that may matter to people.

Quite frankly, I thought the iPad was a fad and in the big long timeframe picture of things, I might be wrong, but that did not stop Apple form selling hundreds of millions of them with hundreds of millions of happy people using them. I'm guessing you are just bored and unhappy with everything. But that only affects you and not Apple or the rest of us.

Right on, that would be awesome. Especially a 17" macbook pro. But it was a niche product, selling a few per store a month (per 2-3 store owners I talked to before they were discontinued); I do not see it coming back.

I read every single post in this thread and what's striking is everyone complained about something from pants to a brand new iPhone 7 potentially having sapphire glass and features up the ass being "boring" and "yawn". I'm starting to think Apple's problem is that they set a pace that is simply not possible to keep up with. Maybe they should have half-assed everything like all the other companies. Then at least all your complaints would be warranted.

There +1 to the only person that didn't complain about **** in this entire thread.
I'm for it, but really want a 13" laptop. I have to balance productivity and mobility, 12" is a little to small, 14" is a tad too big. 13" is just right. (For me anyway)

The only thing that concerns me is the iPod 6's 1GB of RAM. That may force the iPod to be updated prematurely, or killed prematurely. Personally, I think the latter will occur...

RAM shortage will be the downfall of the iPhone 5S, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPad Air, iPad mini 2, iPad mini 3, and iPod Touch 6.

Probably iOS 11 will be the very last OS for these guys. And that's being generous. iOS 10 could be the last update that 1GB devices get, maybe the first to cut out all 32 bit devices?

Apple should have had all 64 bit iOS devices on 2GB of RAM from the start. It's pathetic. The RAM shortage could be seen on all 64 bit devices from the start, even on iOS 7. Very bad move by Apple.

Or a very intentional move by Apple, whether it came down to profit margins, or making the push to newer devices a little easier. So yes, planned obsolescence. I think that it's real, but only to a certain extent. Apple has to sell new products and reduce stress on OS development (having to support less legacy devices) somehow. I wouldn't say it's 100% intentional, but it's more of a thing where they load the OS up to death with new features/animations etc. They refrain from removing the stressful aspects from the older devices, thus, they start showing their age. While on the other hand, newer hardware chugs along just fine with all the new bells and whistles. Other people claim there's a more intentional injection of faulty code on older devices where newer devices don't receive this, but there's no way that's actually happening.

I hear ya! Same for me. 12'' is just a tad too small for productivity (other than checking e-mails), yet I want and need portability and 14'' just don't provide those (unless they greatly reduce the bezel size... that would be cool!)

AAPL is trading where it was 3.5 years ago...
It is right now, a few months ago it was trading under where it was 3.5 years ago.

Yep, if it could be reduced /lack of a bezel but the same as the current 13", I would go with it for sure.

Damn, now I start dreaming of a 14'' with the footprint of the 13'' and a super thin bezel (I never liked that black bezel on the MBP) and a sleek design as the Air's, but without that awful butterfly keyboard.... gosh I would buy it IMMEDIATELY!

iPad Pro? Makes about as much sense as jumping from iPad 4 to iPad Air.

Exactly, what is wrong with the following naming scheme: iPhone 7 mini/iPhone/plus and iPad 7 mini/iPad/plus?

They actually updated it in July of last year. I wouldn't expect another one so soon.
