Think they should drop the numbering for the iPhones and just refer to them by year.

iPhone 11 = iPhone 2019
iPhone 11 Pro = iPhone 2019 Pro
iPhone 11R = iPhone 2019 R

Etc.

But then I also think they should be doing that with the iOS / WatchOS / TVOS etc as well.

Then you'd have a unified 2020 range, 2021 range, etc.
Something should be done with the naming/numbering conventions I agree.

I would love a new MBP, but I can't afford it. Apples modern pricing is classist, which I find quite hypocritical and distastefull.

I don’t believe I said that iPhone 7 or any other number was acceptable.
OK so you don't like numbering a product that is based on an annually release schedule that uses numbers? Were you always against Apple referring to products like the "iPhone 5" because they're been doing it since 2007 and you've lost that particitular fight. (but hey, you can still hate numbers)

Yes they certainly do damage on one’s finances. If they were made as well as in years past you could justify the purchase as it was very likely the unit would give you 6 years or more of service. At the moment I don’t feel they provide the same value.

"Better waterproofing is expected, which will also make the new iPhones more durable,."

Yeah right! As if someone is gonna to try that again!
Just dipped my XS max for 30secs in water and sound and Face ID are broken!
And ofcourse apple does not cover waterdamages, sure why should they!
Stop f*cking advertising waterproof!!!

So that photo you're retouching (while you think about it) has to be 120fps? that (static) spreadsheet has to be 120fps..

If you pan or zoom the photo - yes, it does.
If you move the mouse cursor- yes, it does.
If you scroll the spreadsheet - yes it does.
...and they're all the more obvious if you're sitting up close to the screen the way you don't do if you're at the movies.

True, if you full-screen the photo/spreadsheet and sit back with a bag of popcorn to enjoy it then 1 fps will be just fine* (...on a modern screen that doesn't flash on and off at the fps rate), but I think you're missing out on a cool feature of your computer: did you know that you can use the trackpad/mouse/keyboard/touchscreen to actually move and change things on the display? It has been the up and coming thing for the last 50 years!

(* unless you're running a Ken Burns-style slideshow with a thrash metal soundtrack - but then you probably want the picture to be distorted and glitchy to match the music..)

A trend appears to be emerging of an increasing number of lenses on the back of the iPhone, so perhaps when a range of around 30 lenses are fitted the camera bump will finally be eliminated......

The renders from Ben Geskin actually look really good, I think having the integrated, body-coloured camera square makes a real difference. The logo being centred vertically without the 'iPhone' below also looks quite clean. Really wasn't a fan based on first renders, but arguably these actually look better/ more refined than the X/S.

You're going to turn this into a Wikipedia link fight? Sigh.

TLDNR: I think both you and @WatchAndWait are missing the point.

There are perhaps 4 not-necessarily related things that could be called "flicker" problems:

A: The flashing of the screen illumination on CRTs and mechanical movie projectors (typically twice the refresh rate) - doesn't affect modern LCDs or OLEDs.

B: The high-frequency flashing of some LCD backlights (& maybe OLED pixels? I don't know about that) caused by using PWM to control the screen brightness. This has nothing to do with refresh rate/frame rate.

C: The blurring/tearing/jerking/cursor 'submarining' effect when the image data changes faster than the display refresh rate.

D: Jerky motion caused when video material is converted from (say) 30fps NTSC to 25fps PAL by dropping frames. If you watched Star Trek TNG on UK TV during the 1980s, you'll know...

The call for 120Hz refresh rates on Macs and iDevices is all about (C) - windows 'tearing' as you drag them around (terrible at 30Hz, not so bad at 60Hz), mouse cursors disappearing (still a problem at 60Hz) and windows blurring into unreadable mush when you scroll them: think about "ballistic" scrolling on an iPhone, where you want at least pictures and headings to stay legible as they flash past.

24-30Hz is very limiting in that respect and movie makers either work around it (don't keep panning the camera) or exploit it (Saving Private Ryan is, indeed, the classic example of what happens when you reduce motion blur in each frame).

If you're looking to 120Hz to cure your flicker-induced headaches, bad luck, because unless you're still using a CRT or some ancient pre-TFT LCD screen, that's probably PWM brightness control which is unrelated to the refresh rate.

Seems like another year when Apple won't get a sale out of me then. As my SE ages, I might have to consider Android as I can't see myself buying an iPhone 7 or 8 as the tech in those phones is severely dated. The XR and XS are still far too expensive when you can get a good laptop for less.

There's got to be a point where they introduce two-year old FaceID technology to the lower end of the iPhone lineup.

iPhone 8 is still a great phone. FaceID is not that great even on my XS. Personally I’d like to go to an in screen TouchID.

Sure you did. I just finished a week of photography in northern NM. No phone or web services, but I did bring my iPad Pro along as a display device. The wonky, one-way “file system”, the lack of apps and overall CPU horsepower made the iPad useless for anything but rudimentary display and tether control. All serious editing had to wait until I had access to a real computer.

Opinions vary

I'm only interested in notch-less and "bezel-less" iPad mini, iPhone, and MacBook

"Apple's 2019 iPhones will bring some of the most significant cameras changes that we've had in years, which is something to look forward to."

what? Bigger power bricks and slightly bigger laptop screen??

Anyone else not even remotely interested in iPhone 11? If they surprise me with Apple Pencil support though I'm in.

I’m interested in it because I like to use the best possible camera equipment as soon as it’s available. My life is documented in photographs—and I’m happy enough with simply continuously improved fidelity in this crucial daily recorder.

Makes sense for you then. I hope the improvements are to your liking.
