No macbooks? I have been waiting for an upgrade for the past 12 months and each few months they say they will get it out there in the next couple of months.

Everyone was waiting for new MBP in June. Maybe if everyone was as Rich as Tim Cook they can buy a new laptop each month, but for people like me who are still on their Unibody 2008 macbook they live between dying hardware and the lack of Apple's upgrades.

MR buyer's guide already shows that the MBP are 4 months late on the average update cycle.

The Macbook front is very confusing at the moment, an early report said not until Q4, but some people take that to mean Apple's quarter which is from July-September, while others are saying no it's the actual quarter. Another report says that Apple have already received the new hinges for the new Macbook Pro's, basically some are saying that we could see them at WWDC and they will ship July-August, while others are saying that Apple won't announce them until around September or October time.
Another report has said that Apple also plans to update the Macbook Airs, adding a 15" and removing the 11" Air. Ming-Chi-Kuoe has also said that Apple plans to announce A new 13" Macbook. Like is said it is VERY confusing at the moment as to when Apple will announce AND WHAT they will announce.

Apple are so clever that they'll get people hyped over Dark Mode. A simple invert of colours basically. Funniest thing is, some of you will accept that as being good enough for new stuff!

Well, bear in mind that rumors depend on:
  • Analysts - who differ only from MacRumors commenteers in that they've persuaded someone to pay them for their speculations
  • Junior employees at Apple partners who are sufficiently disgruntled/stupid to break their employers' NDAs
  • Kids of all ages with nothing better to do than create fake product shots in photoshop
  • Maybe (but I'm skeptical) strategic leaks from Apple which could well be designed to distract rather than inform
...so don't act all surprised when they contradict!

That said, there are many possible permutations:

E.g.

12" MacBook, 13" MacBook Air, 15" MacBook Pro all significantly thinned down with rMB-like styling & tapered design, possibly more restricted ports, with the 13" options covering both the 13" Air and rMBP markets.

Or:
12" & 13" (or 14") Macbooks, with similar styling, minimal connectivity and ultra-low-power CPUs, plus, 13" and 15" MacBook Pros with a less radical re-design (the "leaked" rMBP top cases looked a bit like that).

Or: a new range of watch bands with "Happy Mac" and "DogCow" motifs in memory of the Apple Mac, 1984-2016.

As for "Air" rumors: how would you tell the difference between a new 'Macbook Air with Retina Display', a '13" retina MacBook' and a '13" retina MacBook Pro (with new ultra-slim design)' if it didn't have a badge?

Mac pro update following trend set by last mac mini update - same vintage of CPU with less cores, and all components (RAM, GPU, SSD) now soldered on :)

Exactly. That's why retina Air is most probably not going to happen.

Dear Apple, put that butterfly keyboard in everything so I'm not tempted to spend money.

I wouldn't expect an update to Mac Pro, ever. Hopefully I'm proven wrong in two days and five hours (and a few more hours devoted to Drake and Taylor Swift live performances).

The only reason everybody and their dead aunt want a hardware release is because Macs are outdated and nobody understands the holdup anymore (yes Intel was late shipping the right chips for new rMBP models, but that's out of the way now) - sadly no hardware announcement at WWDC sadly makes sense given it's a dev conference focused on software.

I know that there are often contradictions, my point was that this year (regarding Macs at least) seems to be a bit more contradictory. One side says yes there will be Mac announcements at WWDC, while others say no. Personally I'm not to sure what we will see, half of me thinks we will see Mac updates (because we have in the past) the other half thinks not.

The MacBook 12'' does seem like it is being primed to replace the Air, which is why I was a little surprised to read the report that said the Air will get a 15" new model and the MacBook will still be around.

I understand the hold ups. It's profit margins. Profit margins are higher using last gen components. And as we have seen on iPhones, profit margins are more important than the user experience.

Ask yourself this: can you justify paying a premium for a Mac anymore? Basically you are buying a system that you can't upgrade so you have to pay more up front. I hope Apple does use the butterfly keyboard on an updated MBP. It will give me an excellent reason not to buy one.

WWDC 2016 may turn out to be a bust, there's always 2017...

No worries, Apple's here for the long haul. Profitable and skilled at keeping themselves in the headlines, nothing else matters. Their products will continue to sell, good, bad or otherwise.

I went into the UK's Brum Apple Store last week. Not been in one for months. And was totally out of touch with the current Macbook Range. Confusing screen choices. Pro. Air. Non-Pro. And the latter was way too thin and the keyboard had zero feedback. Also noted that the wee Apple logo light on the lid is no more. Yes. I am that out of touch now. And then I was the prices and it showed why nobody was looking at them. Or the Watches. My wife still has the original white Macbook. I've got the original quad core i7 27" IMac and both are going strong. To charge premium prices you have to have premium products to match. And therein lies the problem. Apple aren't adding to functionality. They're taking it away. Ports. Drives. Usability. I'm hoping iMessage is open to non IOS products after WWDC. The halo effect won't happen like it did with the iPods back in the day but it'll be damned useful for us Android converts :) and perhaps will be a fitting legacy to Jobs to recognise what once made Apple worth paying the extra over what was then - pretty mediocre competition. But not any more. Even the store staff look depleted. With scruffy TShirts and a less knowledgable aura than before. Indeed. It was all rather a bit of an eye opener and not in a good way. And all within a year. 2016 HAS to be Apple's year or .....

Would you just please give the mac pro some love!

I am in the market for a new workstation and I would rather NOT buy a Windows machine unless forced by a company who doesn't give sh** about there pro customers anymore and there 3 year old trashcan workstation..

Sorry for my "trashtalk" but I had to vent this somewhere....

Geez, the macbook is the one product in their computer lineup that HAS been getting timely updates. Please get in line behind those waiting for new MacBook pros, Mac minis, and Mac pros.
That's what I mean, the Pro/Air. Not the Retina model.

I'm also guessing a HUGE announcement that the apple store website shopping cart that was changed to a shopping bag will now be changed again to a more stylish 'tote'. Tote is so much more stylish because it implies carrying something quite hefty yet all Apple products are sleek and lightweight. The emotional impact of such a juxtaposition will take the industry by storm... The web graphic for the 'tote' will also have a feature to select a predefined set of colors, all a slight variation of taupe - all very new color concepts that scream "why didn't I think of that"?? - and - "I certainly expelled and flushed similar colors in my life so I should have known - obvious brilliance!!!!!". Tim Cook will introduce Angela Ahrendts to announce these groundbreaking changes with an amount of giddiness never seen before at an Apple event.

WWDC is for developers, and developers work on Macs (of all flavors). The combination of how overdue almost all Macs are for upgrades and this venue full of folks hungry for those upgrades seems to me a pretty prime opportunity to announce new hardware.

Oh for days of yonder, when we had Steve Jobs to wow us with the latest stuff. His keynotes were legendary, and I looked forward to every one with baited breath. Those days are gone forever, alas.

It seems as though Cook almost wants to disappoint us, wants the keynote to be dull, wants to concentrate on watch bands, Eddy Cue wobbling to music, vacuous celebrities and pushing ads and subscriptions, all things that fly in the face of Steve's Apple.

Perhaps, one day, Apple will be released from the clutches of decay. May we all yearn for a return to Apple's original Raison d'être: providing us with the finest computers. Goodbye distractions, hello focus. I fear my optimism is hopeless and deluded. :(

Insightfully poetic.

I read a brilliant post in another MR thread about upcoming App store changes that no matter what Apple has planned it will be "Too little too late", and that "Apple is behind or downgrading in practically every product category and metric."

This is very true across Apple's entire business - for example - Look at Mac Rumors buyers guide (the gold standard here BTW) today. Out of 17 products, there are only 2 "buy now" and 2 "Neutral" products. The rest are "Don't Buy" and "Caution". So even from a hardware standpoint (Apple's main business) they've ground to a halt.

Apple is not going to announce updates to 10+ products at WWDC, so next week will be basically ZERO overall affect on company direction...

Apple is the latest F'd company.

This might've been posted before, but Siri for Mac looks pretty much confirmed.
