I think Apple is better able to lock down software so it doesn't leak. Also it seems like since Mark Gurman went to Bloomberg he's getting a lot fewer leaks. So either those leaking to him stopped, he's moved on to other things or Bloomberg has a higher standard for publishing leaks than 9to5Mac did.

Or they've decided to only do major updates every other year.

I'm not sure any amount of iOS updates can make iPhone/iPad exciting again, and Macs are still struggling...so I go into the WWDC not excited, but expectant of Apple to disappoint. That and continue screwing over consumers as much as possible whilst Cook preaches "community" and "environment."

I would have considered iOS 10 a pretty major design upgrade, but I guess it wasn't as 'radical' of a change as 7 was from 6. I wonder if iOS 11 will really look that different, or if it will just have more emojis and widgets.

I'll believe 11 is as big of a visual change as iOS 7 when 3rd party app makers are scrambling to update the look of their icons again!
I wouldn't mind if 11's display is a throwback to 6's which treated a user's visual experience with kindness instead of harshness.

Not even going to watch. Will just be more of the same procrastination from Tim & Co. When Apple delivers professorial level hardware that makes sense, then we will think about revisiting Apple.

Awesome, equals a game changer, not a spec bump courtesy of Intel, or a speaker connected to an AI that's dumb as a post. The key word being mediocre...

Q-6
Neh. They are gonna finish the keynote one hour earlier.

Crossing my fingers that this ugly watchOS-esque UI design won’t spread further beyond the few apps from last year.

I'd be very happy if Apple were to update the icons. iOS 7's icons are an ungodly abomination and while Apple has reversed some of the more hideous and stupid design choices since, so far they've left the icons as is (and even forced them pretty much as-is into OS X)

All I really want is a proper os for the iPad with apps designed for the extra pixels, not iPhone apps spread out.

If app, emthinks the iPad is the best expression of the future of computing, then they need to lead the way with making the iPad a great tool to replace the laptop. Thinner and a bunch of new hardware specs alone will not get there.

1000hrs. "Hey Tim. We're done waiting. No more distractions. We want new stuff. Not paint jobs and revamps. And we ain't moving from here until we do. Right guys?"
Crowd: "Yeah! No more excuses. No more excuses!"
<The crowd become restless and an uneasy atmosphere pervades as Tim Cook, blank sheet of 'notes' in hand approaches the edge of the stage. He looks directly at the main protagonist for a few seconds then raises his steely gaze to the assemblage>
Tim: "My friends. You don't need new stuff"
Crowd: <in unison> "We don't need new stuff"
Tim: "These are not the Macs you were looking for"
Crowd: "These are not the Macs we were looking for"
Tim: "You can go about your business"
Crowd: "We can go about our business"
Tim: "Now. It's U2 ft. Bonio on vocals"
Crowd: "We ...are....feeling......sleepier ...."
Tim <laughs maniacally> "My dastardly plan has worked, readers. Now to disappear before they awake!"
1200hrs. Crowd <awakening> : "Where are we? Dammit! Foiled again!"
Bono: "And for our last song I'd like to dedicate it to random bits of string. These little pieces of string really mean a lot to us because we've made millions out of three cords since we began ...."

I just wanted to say I'm still very much in favour of these MacRumour videos. The video production value is high. :)

It is kinda crazy how very little has leaked about iOS 11 so far. Usually there's a fair amount of stuff this close to WWDC that's been leaked. At this point, it feels that with everything set to be shown, iOS 11 may be taking a backseat, especially if a lot of it can't be revealed until the new iPhones. Either that or we are in for a lot of surprises on Monday from iOS 11.

I'll bet that's because Mark gurman got scooped up by Bloomberg, who have tighter control over what he reveals and when he reveals it due to insider interests. Mark is one of the best at figuring out what's going on inside Apple, and when he was at 9to5Mac his only job was to post what he found. Now he has to take into account how markets will react and whatnot. Just my take on it.

I expect to see Apple show a demo of Wolfram Player for iPad at the WWDC. This is a player-only version of Mathematica -- similar to the CDF Player that has been available for many years on Windows, Mac, and Linux. Wolfram announced a beta for iOS last November; they should have had plenty of time for the full-blown version by now.

Apple and Wolfram have long-standing relationships. This would be good for Wolfram. It'd also be good for Apple, because they desperately want to move professional developers to the iPad. Bad news: this software will be expensive. You heard it here first! :)

My prediction: group facetime, minor Siri improvements, AND A BAZILLION MORE EMOJI'S, that's probably about the gist of it. If I was at the event I'd shine my blinding white on off white iOS theme at him and force him off stage for not giving us a dark mode.

Any chance that apple accounts will get an upgrade. 2fa that isn't SMS based (and subjected to phone porting attacks) and mail having the ability to do bulk sorting and maybe have a better junk mail sorting mechanism?

This is all I want to see too. Especially the launch pad - what a total joke on the iPad Pro 12.

The hardware is fine as it is, it is a pure software / OS issue now. It either moves forward or stays stuck in 'my grandma can use an iPad' territory. I honestly believe though that this is what Apple aimed for, and are unlikely to change it at all [as it works for 'most' people].

and yes this too. iOS to sort junk would be very welcome

Why would I want a MUSIC app that focuses on VIDEO!?! It already focuses too much on the dumb album art and not easy control of the MUSIC. They do know that people use these apps while DRIVING, right? Yes, you're not supposed to, but everyone does at least for starting music, changing tracks, etc..., so they really need to be designing with that at least a little bit in mind.

I find the lack of leaks about macOS interesting too. I wrote the following in a thread on the macOS forums my thoughts regarding what could possible be in store for the next version.

Either Tim Cook's double down system is finally working or something else why there hasn't been much of a hint as what to really expect; except for 10.13 systems checking macrumors.com.

With exception since 10.10, there hasn't been any major changes. Addition of Siri to Sierra is debatable, but it seemed more logical. We already know APFS is definitely a huge under the hood upgrade for macOS platform, but its not as sexy as user facing features.

Is it possible something else in relations to APFS could lead to some substantial user interface or application features and functionality? Then again, the direction of macOS seems to be refinements going forward. Going back to APFS, are there some core areas of the system likely to see substantial improvements? Here are some things that come mind:

  • Time Machine Backups - Faster, secure, more flexible.
  • Better performance on SSD drives - meaning, even faster startup times, application load times - debatable, because I haven't seen it on my iPhone.
  • Enhanced security - better encryption options for local and external storage - not really an OMG kinda thing.
  • Virtualization - could likely mean a dual file system approach similar ChromeOS. No need to reboot anymore when applying point updates. Basically, you install 10.13.1 and it switches over to the new one without you noticing. This would be substantial productivity booster.
  • Virtualized Boot Camp, meaning, you could now run Windows 10 natively in macOS without taking a performance hit and get all the benefits of direct access to hardware: memory, GPU, processor cores. Pretty much a subsystem for Windows.
  • Native read and write to NTFS drives - would really make interoperability with Windows platform easier.
  • This one just popped up in my head, but its possible there could be a merger with iOS and macOS. Not just at the file system level, but in a more substantial way in regards to maybe API's and Graphical User Interface. Meaning, iOS and macOS both die to form AppleOS powering iPhone, iPads and Macs. The operating system will be intelligent enough to provide the best features and experience across devices, optimized with functionality to make users more productive. Yes, this means Apple would be introducing a new platform with a major name change again. But, Apple has been known for surprises.
These are just some of things I can think of. Its a desktop operating system after all, but the fact that Apple has kept a lid on leaks suggest there must be something major coming.

Maybe I’m alone in my opinion, but I feel that MacOS is already a well developed OS. There’s nothing I can’t accomplish (usually) thanks to third party software. I say ‘usually’ because the iMacs are a compromise in performance—forget 3D modeling—while the Mac Pro is over-priced for its specs. It’s the lack of reasonably-priced premium hardware to empower the creative trades that is lacking.

iOS has the opposite problem. Capable hardware with a kindergarten OS.
