Both my Aperture version 3.6 and iPhoto (no longer in use) are 64 bit programs. I will continue to use Aperture to do my secondary edit and organise my photos - the Photos program is still useless - can't bulk edit, its organisation is hopeless and its UI is still not up to iPhoto when it was killed off. "Selfies", don't show all the selfies, but you can get to them through Faces, "Panoramas", don't show panoramas, and no idea what Apple has attempted with "Moments" and "Memories", neither are what they purport to be and are just an annoyance. A decent Motion and Compressor update would be nice. If it wasn't for the fact that Adobe can't cope with my camera's RAW format I would have switched over, once I can't use Aperture I will have to, but luckily not this year.

So I guess there's still no number row at the top of the keyboard and still no hard press on keys to quickly get the symbols.
How about at least let people turn that feature off and on in the keyboard settings? Some of us don't want to use Gboard.
Then all of us who like to hard press a key to get # or % etc. do that and those who prefer to press "123" and then the "symbol" key and then the actual symbol can do that, you know.... the people who probably have all the time in the world on their hands.

Not a Gboard user, but SwiftKey. The biggest annoyance with iPhones is the keyboard. Stock is borderline useless, autocorrect is too aggressive, multilanguage support is non existent, no incognito, 3Dcursor is slow compared to SwiftKey or Gboard.

Unfortunately half of these features are also lacking in third-party alternatives, furthermore iPad with the smartcase won't work properly with Gboard or SwiftKey.

Imho iOS is lacking massively on this front and of course webbrowsers.

I guess the corporate/enterprise world is run by kids, since, you know, iOS completely dominates this market.

And if the iOS App Store is for kids, then who is the Fisher Price App Store (aka Google Play) for?

Kids.

Society has turned infantile, which has gone on for several generations now, seemingly without end.

I wonder, for those who still use 32-bit apps like Aperture, is it possible to install an older macOS version in VMWare or Virtualbox? Or maybe dual-boot(have Mojave, and 10.15 installed at the same time, select which one to boot whenever you turn on your Mac)?

If you’ve been following the development of Swift, you’d know that Apple has been pushing hard to stabilise it so it can be included in the OS.

I expect we’ll see that work come to fruition. There will be a huge number of new, Swift-native APIs which take advantage of features like generics and value-types. That means much better performance, lower latency and better battery life than when everything is built using Obj-C.

I think this is going to be one of the biggest developer releases ever. Almost an entirely new OS.

EDIT: Just checked the schedule. WWDC talks, where new developer features are announced and explained, are known as "Sessions" (as opposed to "Labs", where you can book appointments and get 1:1 code-level support from Apple engineers). Almost every single session is TBA. I don't remember anything like that before; normally they'd at least have titles, like "What's new in UIKit".

Very interested in learning more about Apple Arcade. And to see if it really lives up to the expectations of that name. Although this is going to be a service, it still very much falls and quite relevant to this event.

Do you genuinely miss the iOS 6 and earlier interface? Every time I’m reminded of screenshots they look jarringly dated to my eyes. I don’t even feel nostalgic looking at them.

Each to their own I suppose.

I genuinely miss it. I turned on an older iPhone a few months ago, it was amazing how much better it looked.

The iOS 7 UI looked awful when it came out, it looks just as awful now. I'm still amazed that Apple, who used to be able to design excellent user interfaces, managed to come out with one that looks so incredibly bad. I'm hoping whatever the next generation has will be better, not even worse.

Are you not familiar with Tile?

Bing bing bing! You said the secret word!

(actually the secret word could have been “Bluetooth trackers” but “Tile” is one of those)

The thing that is really cool about this article is the mention of “Find My” - In my not so humble opinion.

I extrapolate in my imagination that this new app will be opening the doors for group based Bluetooth tracking of the key fobby type “tile” and “TrackR” and so many other IOT tracking devices with batteries that need replacing too often.

Apple can make this work unlike any other company. The best way to do it would possibly have been a massive blockchain open source project, but Apple deserves a few $Billion if they end up selling zillions of Bluetooth tracker module thingies AND does a better job than the horrible companies trying to do it now.

This was something I thought was very significant that jumped at me from this article.

Making the Internet of things Bluetooth tracker devices function optimally is something that Apple can do and there have been rumors about them taking over some of those companies Who have taken a crack at it and did not so bad actually but are missing the real incentive to help other people. The real fact is there is a zero incentive to help other people unless you pay them a bounty or, in Apples case if you make it happen transparently in the background with full security and respect for privacy. Millions of phones serving as sensors to find your lost bicycle, keys, bags, anything!

ONLY Apple can do this use case for IOT BT keyfob tracker devices, and it has potential to be really cool I think!

Would love to discuss it.

What do they miss? I don’t find I miss anything either, even iOS 13 can have huge potential to break support for iTunes 12.6.5.3.

There is typically something I'm really looking forward too but have a hard time spotting it this year...

This was something I thought was very significant that jumped at me from this article, but it seems nobody else noticed. Instead they are talking about all of the lacking features of their existing software and that’s about all they say. Oh, and that they are bound to be disappointed. Lol.

Bluetooth Trackers
IOT huh...
Have to admit not many people can notice this. Useful or not, I agree that such tracker could bring some huge potential. With 5G, yeah. A gazillion devices connected to the network.
In short, I can see its potential but I am too bad to fully understand that.

To the veterans here...based on the past, when should we see the iOS 13 Betas start? I'm dying to get Dark Mode running on my XS Max.

If those icon are real then the OS would have to offer something fantastic for me to push the upgrade button. Based on what I see, the Mac OS on my Mac will stay as it is.

Public beta will be out at least two weeks after fist developer beta. Developer beta will be out either during the session or shortly after the session.

Well, I saw an article about Apple considering doing something with "Tile" and it just seems like "Find My" app name is alluding to some sort of tracker IOT devices and backend systems. It's pretty interesting to think about what has to happen between all the devices to make it all work

If they release the iOS13 development beta this quickly they're going to lose a lot of 12.4 beta testers :)

As for dark mode, it's probably the most talked about topic on here (ignoring -gate stuff) and as soon as it came to MacOS I tried it, didn't like it, and never used it again. I'm a big fan of night shift (was using f.lux) and personally am not interested in dark modes.

I probably wont be upgrading. As a person who enjoys old games, uses legacy scientific software. Dropping 32-bit support is a deathnail. Seems more like forced obsolescence to me. Windows has compatibility way back to the 90s. Apple kills it off so you are bracketed into choosing between a machine that runs old things and new things bad, or a new computer that runs new things well, but no old stuff at all. A new machine that has had price creep for the best part of a decade and are now twice as expensive even adjusting for inflation as they were 10 years ago. I am so sick of Apples anti-consumer BS. I used to covet apple products, because they were the best in the business, now they are becoming a liability. What wont they run in 5 years time? Dropping support for CoreAnimation for example, in favour of the new fan-dangled whizz bang replacement, so now nothing else works unless you upgrade? Time to upgrade at a premium again. What do we get in return, some animoji and a decade late dark mode. I guess we are only a year or two way from them hitting re-set on iMovie again where they get rid of all the features for a new slick stripped down GUI, that will make it three, or four times now? Where are the pro-programs, where was the envelope pushing tech like x-grid? I don't see it anymore with Apple, just millennial glitter trash.

So many great theories, hopefully most of them come true.

Selfishly, if they could find a way to move the volume HUD on iOS.... wow that would be helpful!!

And of course I just bought Duet on Friday to run my iPP as a second screen!
