Apple should not do anything with self driving cars, the liability is disabling. Nobody is gonna be able to defend Apple with a mother grieving her 2 year old.

Here's my prediction, Apple cripples a bunch of Phones, watches, Apple TVs, and Macs to force people to upgrade, and the apologists explain it all away. **** you Apple, we are running out of land fill space...

It's not even 2018 yet and your prediction is already wrong. Apple doesn't "force" anyone to upgrade. Consumers do it because they want or need to. They make the call. My grandmother had the same stove for 50 years. But today's tech is not a 1930's stove. Would you prefer that? New features often require beefed up hardware. If a consumer see's no value in those new features they can keep what they have until a product comes along they do like better. My mom still uses her 2011 iMac. See sees no reason to upgrade for what she uses her computer for -- mostly book keeping.

And yes, trash vs recyclables is an ongoing issue. But much of Apple's products are recyclable and reusable. It's up to the consumer to dispose of electronics responsibly. My town offers haz-mat and electronics recycling every weekend. I still see TVs, etc. on the curb where they should not be. In every BestBuy there are bins for batteries, toner, and other items that should not end up in a landfill. I'm sure people still toss those items in their trash rather than make the effort to take them in. And have you been to a Target or similar store? 99.9% of the product there are not Apple. A good bit of everything you see in the store will end up in the trash, not recycling, at some point.

So let's not single out Apple for a global issue. Apple is trying, perhaps more than most of it's peers. But we have to do our part too.

One of amazons biggest selling items this Christmas was the $29 Echo Dot. I bought 4 when they came with a $5 smart plug. I can’t wait to hear Phil’s explanation as to why it makes more sense to pay $349 for their version.

iPad Pro with faceID.. the day that Apple forces me to use my face to unlock devices is the day I stop using Apple products
You still have the ability to NOT use faceId and just use password or never lock your ipad

It doesn't compete with the echo it competes with Sonos apparently. (With a poorer voice assistant and no integration with the biggest music streaming service obviously)

Get over it. Every reviewer and most users say they don‘t even notice it anymore after using the X for a few hours/days. Don‘t miss out on the amazing X or it‘s successor just because of such a (literally) small thing.
You do seem to literally push everybody down who's not your opinion.
We see that you believe Apple's the one and all, and we are happy about that.
But try to be polite and stop putting other people down. "Get over it" is not a phrase that fits here.
Thank you for upholding some standard.

The HomePod already feels DOA. It's like the HiFi all over again.

LOL...the HiFi was just a solid forward-facing shelf speaker with an iPod mount built-in. There wasn't really any Apple specific technology inside it to differentiate it vs. the competition. HomePod, on the other hand, is a true technology platform for Apple. It has an Apple designed SoC controlling it. It has Siri. It has a unique approach to sound vs. competitors with the circular array of tweeters and audio beam forming controlled by the SoC. It has wireless integration with Apple Music and AirPlay2. And it's actually $50 cheaper than the HiFi at launch.

It's becoming a bad meme like the Safari snappier jokes, that's why people should stop complaining about the notch, some people don't like the notch, we know.

So, just stop.

And no, he's polite enough, it's just your opinion.

Apple is pushing sound quality, but this is a home assistant market not an audiophile market. Besides true audiophiles will still never buy it.

Straw man. These types of compact speaker systems aren't aimed at audiophiles. These are general consumer products. Also, compact speakers in the $300-$500 range are actually quite popular...without a digital assistant included and without an SoC controlling audio beam forming. Apple is packing a lot of technology into the HomePod for the price vs. their main competitors.

If like to see apple tell the truth.

And they will need a small, less expensive home product when a full blown speaker is unnecessary or not needed.

No, I and at least the responder above, won't "get over it". Neither will I "get over it" with lack of a phone jack. Just won't buy iPhones anymore. Simple as that. I'm over iPhones and Apple laptops with dongles rather than ports.

Its a "me too" Sonos device minus the decent digital assistant.

Early 2018 means “before the end of April” in Apple-speak, but if I had to guess I’d say sometime in January or February. That’s my idea of “a little more time” anyway. Others have their own interpretation. :)

If you look at the fine print on the HomePod page on Apple's web site, it says the device doesn't yet have FCC approval. That may play a part in not giving an exact date yet.

For me, this is just more confirmation that getting off the Apple train was the right choice. Not interested in any of this. I'm happy with my current tablet PC and smartphone, and Apple has no plan to provide anything as an alternative. Over this past holiday, I jumped with Amazon Echos and a lot of other home automation gear. The Apple TV, which I really like, is most likely now going to get pushed out because it doesn't integrate as well as competing products with Echo and Harmony Hub... all I can do is literally turn it on and off.

For my other family members, my wife's SE is getting long in the tooth and survived one swim in a cup of coffee. She likes the small form factor because she always has a cellular iPad with her all the time. Hope they update it at some point, but not holding my breath. Her iPad is also getting old, but not interested in FaceID, so I may have to get her one of the older ones if they go that direction. My one daughter that I'm still funding needs a new iPhone, but probably will grab a 7 while they are still a thing; or give her my old 6s+ (which I've not used at all since AC+ replaced it).
I still like the iPads. Get one now, before they put IR radiation (FaceID) on as a feature, along with a higher price. If you are going to use a tablet for something, rather than a smaller phone, you honestly don't need something like FaceID. You're holding the thing with both hands anyway, so use one of your 10 fingers to unlock it.

Nope. Sonos doesn't have audio beam forming or tweeters that can project sound 360 degrees. They're also not in control of Alexa's development either. If consumers grow tired of Alexa's total reliance on memorize-the-command-line interaction, then they're going to have problem.

I replaced my iPhone 6 with an 8 plus which I really didn’t need. Apple refused to change the battery in India and a couple of stores in the US. They kept saying I had a funny app causing the slowness or some bad data. Restored my phone 3 times from scratch and never from backup. After this I had no choice but to buy a new phone. I am so pissed right now.
Android has lots of phone possibilities. The ONLY thing Apple will respond to is loss of revenue. If you don't like their product line and prices, don't buy. Eventually, the disgruntled former Apple customers will stop even visiting sites like MacRumors, leaving the Apple lovers to fawn away with no "trolls". MacRumors will become AppleLovers and the world will move on. The tipping point for me came several months ago when I found myself using my Android phone rather than my iPhone(6S+) as the "go to" gadget for interfacing with the SD card in my GoPro mobile camera. As Apple customers used to say, "it just works."

They use the true play system which uses the microphones in a smartphone to achieve the same effect.

The truth is as a voice assistant and a platform for home automation Alexa > Siri and homekit. Its not even close.
