I’d love the touch area. If it (the whole mouse) wasn’t so awfully shaped.I am one of the seemingly few people who love the MM due to the touch area on top of it, which no other device offers
How do you feel about the ergonomics of a mouse only right-handed people can use?The Magic Mouse is probably the least ergonomically designed product ever. Just absolute trash in terms of user experience design.
^^ And it will be Qi2 Magsafe compatible...Apple's about due for a wireless charging mouse... but.. I could only imagine it'll be hindered by something in the design..
How about a perfectly round mouse again... this time without the benefit of mechanical button, or a cord output to realize which way is up?

As much as I jest... whomever ran the ship for trackpads for the past twenty years deserves praise. Best in the business.
"In sight" meaning you can see the port while using it, or anywhere except the bottom because when using a mouse, you can't see the front or "north" end so if the port is there, what difference does it make?Won't buy it if it has a charging port that's in sight.
Seems optimal for right handed people. How do you feel about the ergonomics of a mouse only right-handed people can use?
Why do they keep saying that the port on the bottom “is only a minor inconvenience”? I don’t get a warning on my Mac until it is down to a couple percent and it demands an immediate charge leaving me dead in the water.
Logitech this week announced the MX Master 4, the latest version of its popular mouse for Macs and PCs. The new model offers haptic feedback for certain actions, includes a new Actions Ring for quick access to on-screen shortcuts next to the cursor, has a harder plastic finish that is less prone to stains, and more. In the U.S., the MX Master 4 for Mac is priced at $119.99, with shipments beginning this month.

Given the MX Master has now received an update, you may be wondering when Apple plans to release a new Magic Mouse. Below, we outline rumors about the so-called Magic Mouse 3, which is expected to be released in 2026 at the earliest.
The two key rumors for the Magic Mouse 3 so far include a relocated charging port, along with a more ergonomic design.
Rumored Features
Relocated Charging Port
While the Magic Mouse switched from Lightning to USB-C last year, the charging port is still located on the bottom of the mouse, which prevents it from being used while charging. This is only a minor inconvenience, as charging the mouse is a quick and infrequent process, but it sounds like Apple will finally relocate the port.
In December 2024, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said Apple was working on a redesigned Magic Mouse with a relocated charging port.
More Ergonomic Design
In addition to having a relocated charging port, Gurman said the next Magic Mouse would be more ergonomic and comfortable to use.
While no specific design details about the next Magic Mouse were shared, perhaps Apple will take some inspiration from popular alternatives for the Mac, like the MX Master series. That mouse features an ergonomic design with a thumb rest, a front-facing USB-C charging port, precision tracking, two scroll wheels, and more.
The overall look of the Magic Mouse has not changed much since 2009, so a redesign has been a long time coming. Notable changes over the years include the mouse switching from AA batteries to a built-in rechargeable battery in 2015, new color-matching options with the iMac in 2021, and the switch from Lightning to USB-C last year. Overall, the Magic Mouse has not received much attention from Apple over the past decade.
Magic Mouse vs. MX Master 4
A key selling point of the Magic Mouse is multi-touch gesture support, for actions such as swiping between web pages, scrolling through documents, and zooming. However, unlike the MX Master 4, the existing Magic Mouse lacks haptic feedback.
Overall, the MX Master 4 is a far more sophisticated mouse than the Magic Mouse for power users, as it offers multiple programmable buttons, an option for ultra-fast scrolling, and more. With haptic feedback, the MX Master 4 gets even better.
Fortunately, the rumors about the Magic Mouse 3 featuring a relocated USB-C charging port and a more ergonomic design should help it to better compete with the MX Master 3 and MX Master 4, but Logitech's mouse will likely remain more advanced.
Release Timing and Pricing
The new Magic Mouse will be released in 2026 at the earliest, according to Gurman's report last year. However, he has not commented on the mouse in many months.
The current Magic Mouse is priced at $79 in the U.S., on a standalone basis, and it is included at no additional cost with the purchase of an iMac or a Mac Pro.
There is no word yet on how much the Magic Mouse 3 will cost.

Completely disagree. I've used the MM for years. It took all of five minutes to get used to the lack of palm-filling. The ability to basically lay my fingertips flat over the mouse and slide my flat open hand around is great. And the charging port is fine where ti is. How often do you need to charge you MM that you feel the need for the port to be visible, along with the necessary design changes to the shape and ergonomics of the mouse? My mouse is used daily for hours on end. I charge never remember to specifically set a date to time to charge it. When I get the low battery warning every few weeks I make a note to plug it in overnight. On those very often times I forget to do so I take a five minute coffee break and let it charge a few minutes. That gets me through the day and then overnight charge and good for another month. Who wants a charge cord permanently attached? Who cannot take a few minutes to walk around the room, get a coffee, or take a bio break and top up the mouse?I love the Magic Mouse as is but I've used apple mice for decades and it's by far the best mouse they ever made. I find it totally comfortable to use.. haptics sound cool...but battery draining... mainly just want the charging port moved to the front as it shoulda been when the usbc one dropped 🤷♂️
No bet. That would be nice but really unnecessary. Unless it works with the iPhone MagSafe charger. I don't want another permanent charging plate. I already have a phone stand with a MagSafe puck in it on the side ofmy desk. Being able to stick the mouse on it overnight every few weeks would be great. One less random wire to pull out.Ten bucks says it has no charging port and only charges wirelessly.

Does Apple put the intern design team on the mouse every decade? Like.. look at a history of the ones they have put out.. they are all, generally, awful.
Seriously, how sophisticated does a mouse need to be? Unless you are gaming and need multiple programmable buttons - a mouse is use to move the cursor around the screen. It is a navigation tool. A few features like zoom and scroll are all that is really needed for most people most of the time.Short correction:

You're welcome.
Honestly, practically any mouse is a better choice than the Magic Mouse.
and infuriating way to charge.
The scroll ball was an amazing innovation compared to a scroll wheel - but immediately proved impractical. It very quickly clogged up with dirt, and I remember spending more time trying to clean it than use it. The first one I got I returned, but when the replacement quickly had the same issue I realised it was a design flaw.Is it too much to ask for ANYONE to bring back a scroll ball, or any way for an actual mouse to give even a fraction of of what a trackpad does on mac? I find it hard to setup my desk to use a trackpad ergonomically -- it really needs to be below the keyboard like a laptop because muscle memory -- but how can my nearly 20 year old Mighty Mouse still be the only mouse that can scroll/scrub/function left to right as easily as top to bottom? (I don't use the Mighty Mouse day to day, it is far to compromised in every other way, but that scroll ball is so clearly the better solution vs scroll wheels, even ones with reasonably fleixble left/right rocking features why does no one sell a mouse with one?)
I never said it was a massive inconvenience, but it is just plain stupid design. I’ve been in situations at work where it suddenly died, and I had to be using it with a client.Completely disagree.
