Well that was depressing.

What exactly has Apple been doing the past two years?

Making new phones so great that several hundred million people world wide, let that sink in, have wanted to buy them. And, the iPhone 7, assuming the rumors are correct, will positively reflect upon the 20 Billion they have spent the past couple of years on R and D, and the billions in the years before, with double base storage and double max storage, faster charging, a new faster and more powerful processor, increased battery life, new stronger screen with even sharper resolution and TrueTone color accuracy, Optical Image stabilization, great new low light camera, new duo lens system, better built in speaker sound, new microphone system, new two way lightning headphones, new color choices, etc., plus whatever improvements haven't leaked. And a new operating system for it. And that all in just 12 months on one product. But you are right, it is still a rectangle!

Damn, if Tim Cook and the tens of thousands of engineers at Apple would just stop staring out the window, they might get something done. They will pay the price when only 60 to 70 million people decide they like the new iPhone enough to buy it in the Christmas season and close to 200 million buy it in the first year. I can only imagine your depression then.

I've been waiting so long for the macbook pro. My god. Every couple of months people claim the new macbook pro will be revealed at their next event, which never happens. I guess Apple's gonna wait until all of their customers who need a new laptop will have no choice but to go to a PC. I mean, really. They're not giving us much choice. But I guess I'll wait until that October event everyone's talking about. After that, I don't know.

You heard it here first.

Annnd 25 minutes theory about taxes and European relationship.... [BOOOOOORINNNG]

A few changes to the article

Lightning can provide better quality audio than a 3.5mm headphone jack if the manufacture spends money on a high quality DAC while making them incompatible with anything other than an iPhone or iPad, which may be one reason Apple is making the switch. The removal of the jack could also be a major factor that's allowing Apple to improve the water resistance of the iPhone 7, as has been rumored while other manufactures can keep their devices water resistant without losing the standard jack, Samsung even appears to be using the battery in the Note 7 to dry out the phone. It's not clear if enhanced water resistance will be a quiet update or a headline feature, but liquid should be less of a problem for the new devices.

so tell me again whats the purpose with having two cameras on the back of the iPhone??
One camera can focus completely on light levels while the other can focus on other things providing a MUCH better photo.
They are also capable of filming 3-D video even though it is quite gimmicky.
One camera can also be made to take zoomed in photos and the other made to take regular photos, providing a much richer photo experience in terms of depth, clarity, etc.

Definitely feels that way! Still hoping for some sort of "wow" factor but this isn't the same Apple as years past. They seem to be releasing materials on a "just get by" mentality, instead of pushing the envelope.

We won't see a "wow" factor until we see new Macs. iPhones, iPads, and Watches have been the star for the last 4 keynotes. It's getting stale.

It's interesting how Apple is now releasing this kind of pre announcement "teaser". It strikes me as a different culture compared to the days when Jobs was running the show. Any leaks back then were met with swift retribution.

I remember when Apple managed to convince a local police department to raid the home of the person who picked up a prerelease iPhone in a bar/restaurant when an Apple employee accidently left it there. That happened years ago, but I also remember the outrage from citizens who were furious that a company (Apple) could hold so much power over law enforcement. If someone picked up your phone in a bar and you knew where it was at someone's house, do you think you could convince your local police department to raid that home to recover your phone ... I don't think so.

Anyway, Apple seems to now be their own pre-announcement "leaker" of information, unless this is not an Apple video.

looking forward to buying it now to be honest. Water resistant and duel camera will do nicely. Lets see what else they add.

I think we are just barely touching the surface of what added sensors can do for photography and this is just a baby step. Hopefully this gets Samsung, Sony, Google, and everyone else with deep pockets to further and faster advance digital photography.
Digital photography is still in its infancy but it's been developing quite rapidly. I have a Sony digital SLR that I paid a bundle for that was the ultimate in tech in 2007, .. it's pretty sad today compared to what a smartphone can do. Digital photography has been moving at a truly outstanding clip.

That is magical

It is recyclable. Under this plan, Apple takes your phone off your hands for free when you purchase your new iPhone. Apple recycles the old iPhone and makes it available for resale at a later date to a future customer with a freshly charged battery. Recycle paper bag will replace the traditional iPhone packaging.

No need to ever charge your iPhone again. Use iCloud to sync your last backup. Replace your iPhone with a brand new iPhone as many times as you want at $399 for 32 GB, $499 at 128 GB, $699 at 256 GB.
