Reducing the modems capability seems an inefficient way to offer 5G. Especially with the X60, IMO.

Perhaps this SE will have the X52 then?

X52 isn't a available as a discrete modem. Besides, we've seen Apple reduce Qualcomm modem speeds before in iPhone 7.

All Apple needs to do is to adopt the Plus size form factor to get 2600mAh battery, and the SE can be very competitive, being cheapest 5G iPhone that is a bit more practical/usable.
If Apple kept the current size with its 1800mAh battery, the SE will be just there so Apple can say they have a $400 iPhone, an impractical/unusable 5G $400 iPhone.

From the sounds of it the 2nd and 3rd gen SEs are kind of boring. The mediocre battery, throttled performance, less RAM and long in the tooth design aren't very exciting.

The original SE with a camera and specs that matched the current flagship and great battery life at the time was more intriguing. Very future proof as well.. still getting updates 6 years later.
Boring, but they work well. I downgraded from a 13 mini to the current SE. There really aren't any features on the 13 that I miss except 5g, so the new SE will work nicely for me if it does support 5g.

A major killer for me with the current iPhones with MagSafe is the fact they don't always work with QI chargers. Both mine and my wife's cars have built in QI charging neither would work with the 12 or 13 mini. Works fine with the SE.

Okay, I just hope they match the front bezel and back bezel. I wasn't a fan of the black front bezel and white back.
From the iPhone 4 days, making the front panel with white bezel is harder as inconsistencies would easily show compared to black bezel. Thus I;m guessing for cost purposes, especially for a $400 model, Apple would rather keep any cost at the minimum.

5G shouldn’t even be a selling point. It’s the biggest technology flop in the past 10 years. Where’s that super high speed data? Doesn’t exist unless you happen to stand in a land mass that makes up in 0.0000005% of the US.

Some of the wireless carriers won't do as well betting on mm5G band usage that uses more energy. A phone this cheap should offer the bands not related to mm5G.

Look at this article to see how AT&T screwed themselves.

  • Verizon

Of all the carriers, Verizon offers the fastest average 5G speed (722Mbps), according to an Opensignal report. It’s because Verizon has a healthy balance of 5G bands from mid-band to mmWave bands. On top of that, Verizon also uses DSS (Dynamic Spectrum Sharing) to bring 5G speed by combining 4G spectrums in non-urban areas.
Not to mention, Verizon has the highest share of the 28GHz band which makes it one of the biggest potential mmWave carriers in the US. Note that Verizon calls sub-6GHz frequency as Nationwide 5G and mmWave frequency as Ultra Wide Band 5G.
  • AT&T

While AT&T won the 39GHz spectrum in May 2020, it’s still relying on its old 850MHz frequency band to offer low-band 5G to users. The average 5G speed of AT&T is currently 59.3Mbps. According to this report, AT&T has launched 39GHz 5G in parts of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It’s expected that AT&T’s 39GHz 5G will offer speed up to 3Gbps.
  • Sprint

Sprint only has one 5G frequency band right now, but the 2.5GHz frequency band is a sweet spot when it comes to offering great speed and good coverage. Now Sprint has been merged with T-Mobile and the latter is taking great advantage of the 2.5GHz frequency band. The mid-band frequency is offering download speed around 180Mbps on average.
  • T-Mobile

After Verizon, if there is one carrier that offers both mmWave and Mid-band 5G then it’s T-Mobile. As I mentioned above, after the Sprint-T-Mobile merger, the company is offering Mid-band 5G services using the 2.5GHz band. In addition, it has the spectrum for mmWave 5G as well: 28GHz and 39GHz. And to serve the downtown areas, T-Mobile is using 600MHz 5G. The best part is that it has an average 5G speed of 243Mbps, right behind Verizon.
Glad you live in fantasy land. Truth is, none of that high speed will be widespread, so it’s useless. Most of the country doesn’t visit pro sports venues.

I’m not even sure why Sprint is part of your conversation. Sprint doesn’t exist anymore.

iPhone 6 didn't have a glass back. In my opinion, it's more accurate to say it's modeled after the iPhone 8.
It’s more accurate to say it’s modeled after the iPhone 8 which itself is modeled after the iPhone 6 with minor modifications.

The battery in my iPhone 8 is beginning to wear out, so I'm thinking either the new SE or an iPhone 13 Mini (when prices have dropped somewhat) will be the replacement.

As long as it has the home button it is a win for me, cant stand face-id and much prefer the convenience of the button

if SE3 add the notch instead of boring sht iphone8 design I will buy them all for our 7 elderly family members

Coming from the SE1, I am kind of stuck between the rumored SE3 and the 13 Mini for my next iPhone.

My SE1 is getting older, so I would like to get something new. I really dislike the design of the SE2/Rumored SE3, and it is a little too big than what I want, but I like Touch ID and the cheaper (rumored) price is nice.

I like the design of the 13 Mini, and the size of it will be closer to the SE1, but think I will miss Touch ID.

I think I am leaning towards the iPhone 13 Mini.
Iam with you buddy, I am still holding 6s and so far replaced the battery 3 times and surprisingly working fine. Would've bought 13mini if they added at least a power touch ID button

It’s a bit strange that there aren’t stronger rumours for an 8 plus sized SE which could then comfortably run the bigger battery required to get the requisite talk or video playback times required for iPhones that apple seem to stipulate.

If apple are going to want to quote 5G as a new feature for the 2022 SE it only stands to reason that they would use the A15 cpu but as with the version in the iPad mini they could underclock it to reduce heat build up and further reduce battery consumption. Others have also suggested limiting the available 5G bands which might allow them to both claim 5G for marketing reasons and also keep the run times reasonable.

I’d be happy with that if they were aiming to keep the price points unchanged.

Let’s also not forget that apple could keep the iPhone 13 mini in the range at a reduced cost for at least another year.

Any battery concerns could be addressed by looking at that as an option.

no home button = no buy

Either way Apple is becoming to controlling and now they have ideas about scanning phone and CSAM. There are options.

Pixel phone+grapheneOS: most secure and privacy combination out there

Fairphone: a phone that is extremely repairable, you can buy every part.

I’m hoping 5G is not a battery killer for the iPhone SE, 2022 model. Hopefully, Apple can increase the battery capacity. This is the perfect low-budget iPhone.

I don’t see how they can increase the battery capacity in the same chassis, so my best guess the battery could last the same as the current (SE2020) model, simply due to the more advanced (A15) chip.

The iPhone 8 takes inspiration from the iPhone 6. The differences being home button, glass back, and camera. The SE uses the iPhone 8 style (an iteration of the iPhone 6). It's fair to say that since the iPhone SE will look most like the iPhone 8, not the iPhone 6, that it is modeled after the iPhone 8.

Good try, lol. Spot the differences! ;)

Well the SE2 looks like the Iphone 8 to me personally. The rear of the Iphone 6 is all metal with the antenna lines and different camera lens.

Further to this, all the Iphone SE bezels are black for all the colours to match the Iphone 11 range, whereas on the 6-8, only the Space grey colour had a black bezel, with the silver, pink colours having white bezels.

But it is obviously true that the Iphone SE2 is based on the 3rd Generation of iphones i.e. the iphone 6, 6s, 7 and 8. 8 being the most refined of the lot, and the foundation for the SE2
