A spec "UPGRADE"??
This is something I still don't really get. Sure, take it out of the portable computer lineup, make it as thin and light as you please. Students enjoy not noticing the extra weight on their backs... but the iMac is a desktop computer! Am I the only one that still uses MP3 CDs in my car? I also record and produce music and sometimes movies for people that prefer to watch video on their DVD player/TV instead of their tiny computer screens. And last I checked, blank CDs are still a cheaper physical distribution method for audio than flash drives! Isn't this the kind of stuff EVERYONE does with their Macs?? :p

I suppose some people just like thin for the sake of thin, or they want to pretend their iMacs are laptops, instead of getting a MacBook. However, this will unfortunately be a deal-breaker for me. If there is no option in the next iMac to include an optical drive, I will buy a refurbished 2011 instead. Two storage drives are enough for me... I'll buy an external if I need a 3rd physical storage location; 3 internal drives just seems silly to me.

One more week, everyone, until the Mountain Lion release - the day of decision for those of us too impatient to wait until 2013!

I realize the use of the optical drive, but since Apple isn't overly keen on putting Blu-Ray drives on their computers, they are fairly useless now (at least to me.)

I don't use MP3 CDs in my car, although I have that capability. I use my iPod in my car. I have a JVC KD-A855 that lets me hook in my iPhone via USB. Most cars within the last few years have an aux or USB input.

DVDs are small for the backups I have to do. I have my external FW800 drive for my backups.

If you aren't happy with the new iMac when it's eventually released, I'll sell you my 2011. :)

It's just odd, given that the 2011 iMac (ie the current one) was the first desktop to have the Intel Z68 chipset. Now that Z7x has been out for a couple/few months now, I'm surprised Apple is this late to the game.

Do you know for sure that the delay is due to said chipset? Could it perhaps be GPU related or, indeed, SSD capacity constrained (given how well rMBP has been selling, maybe they are looking to put similar SSDs as those found in rMBP)?

"Last few years" ... Hm, problem is, I believe in keeping stuff until it's no longer usable (or it gets stolen). I installed one of those iPod docks into my '93 Mazda, but I left my iPod in the car one too many times and someone broke in and stole it. CDs are much less attractive to thieves, as they don't have cords running from the deck to the glove box. ;) Oh well, at least the car is still going! :D

As a fellow Canadian that frequents Edmonton from time to time, that's tempting, haha, but I think I'll pass. :)
I've got my fingers crossed for something special next week!

Alright, less then a week till an probably iMac announcement..
Shouldn't there be more rumors, leaks etc. around the web ? :-/

I would venture to say yes, this indeed does frighten me a bit. Although I must say, with the leaked geekbench scores not too long ago, there is definitely something in the pipeline, whether that be next week or October, I'm not sure.

That's right, I forgot about the leaked scores. Those scores don't deal with GPU right? So maybe that was/is the holdup. Although with the availability of the 680m here, doubt once again casts its ugly shadow....

I understand that, but the 680m has only been widely available for about 2 weeks or so now. Apple probably doesn't mind waiting 3 more weeks for Mountain Lion even if they could release it now.

Remember, their marketing is top notch, probably the best in the world. They plan everything strategically.

Did the Macbook Air and Mac Mini that launched with Lion have any leaks when they were updated last year?

Not necessarily - check up on earlier releases of iMacs - not much rumors before those either. Usually just some product numbers the day before or so.
But this doesn't mean I'm confident there will be a iMac update next week...I'm more convinced there won't be an update.
But something must be bound to happen sooner or later - the iMac market seem quite dried up these days. I just hope Apple isn't planning on releasing new big batch of the old machine by the end of the month - then this could drag out for a while :(

DUDE.... Agreed 100%!

Not much only some hints to new hardware to launch with Lion a few days before Lion was released.

Yeah the leaks were few and far between. There was a leaked product list, much like what we was saw prior to WWDC (without pricing I believe). People speculated that the list was for white MacBooks and Mac Pros. Turns out it was Mac Mini, MacBook Airs, and Thunderbolt Displays. This leaked like 1-2 days prior to July 20th's launch of Lion.

Hope we see a similar scenario. Will find out in a few days though. We can only wait!

Still no signs of the iMac dropping this Wednesday, not even the slightest news. I guess we would really either have to wait October or next year. I think I'm just gonna go with a All-In-One PC and maaaybe a macbook air... Apple is surely going to lose a lot of customer.s

Yeah, now LG wants to sell a AIO, too (Link).

But like every other AIO again to low specs - so to me there is no way not to wait for Apple.

Not that we didn't know about this, but it's official that ML is dropping tomorrow at the Mac App Store for $19.99

aaaaand nothing about iMacs? =/

Just an odd one here, the osx page has no images of an iMac with Mountain Lion on, could that suggest a future redesign?

Straws and clutching for me?

Anyone have a spare time machine handy? Just need to nip back to January and slap myself in the face, no the iMac will not be out in March...or April...or May...or June...or July. Perhaps my conversion to apple was just never meant to be. Obviously angry with myself for waiting, but with nothing more than a spec bump required, what the hell are they playing at?
