The bizarre part for me is that based on my normal update schedule, I should have bought my new iMac last year. But the funds went to "building" a PC for the wife instead.

Kinda sucks how there's no single reasonable computing alternative to a Mac, or I'd have walked by now.

Maybe the screen lamination issue serves two purposes:

1. Part of an overall redesign

2. Rectifying the smudging/dust issue by sandwiching all layers of the LED panel and the "outer most panel/glass" together as one - hopefully a COMPLETELY sealed unit.

Oh the waiting game. Wish I just kept my 2010 27" with the 5750 and called it a day.

I gave up. Tired of waiting. I don't have ANY Mac at the moment and have new scanner and printer all set to hook up to it... kind of assumed a new one would be out by now. Today I picked up a used May 2011 27" top model with all available upgrades, 256 GB SSD and 2 TB HD, plus 2 years of Apple Care and some extra accessories for $1,200 less than Apple Store price. Better deal than a refurb.

This is all for you guys! Now that I gave in, Apple will no doubt announce the new one in a few days ;)

Thanks, dude! Take one for the team, haha but I don't think we'll be so lucky. Rumours are scarce right now, and the only ones that surfaced after today's OS release seem to indicate that the earliest update to the iMac / Mac Pro line will be September. I'm pretty miffed about it, but I've waited this long, so I guess another 2 months won't kill me too much.

I sincerely doubt this delay implies there will be a redesign, however. My guess is that this reported screen problem is something to do with the anti-reflective coating everyone's been raving about. Remember how long it took them to pop out a white iPhone 4?? Haha, let's hope it's not that kind of problem! Nevertheless, I have faith that they won't wait until a 2013 redesign to pop the Ivy Bridge in there.

Speaking of which, what do you all think the odds are that the next update will include some sort of digital audio out? I'm convinced they won't do HDMI (in OR out), because Apple seems to be so against any kind of video trading in iMacs, unless it's done through Thunderbolt. Still, the digital optical out, which has been standard on the Mac Pro for a while, might be nice, but I'm not holding my breath...

It already has a digital audio out, unless I'm not understanding. You just need the 3.5mm digital adapter (or a cable with that on one end and toslink on the other end). Check out the 2nd and 3rd photos:

... or are talking about something different?

I don't have high hopes for a September release, either, as I think that will be iPhone 5 and iPad Mini season. I can't see them throwing in a new iMac with them, but I've been wrong before (a few times).

Not any more... The 27 is now gone completely and the 21.5's are showing no stock. What is it like in the states stock wise anyone?

Edit: Comet UK and John Lewis also showing no stock for the top end 27, with Tesco being sold out of the low end 27.

I live in Cali, and I have yet to see any shortage anywhere. All of the iMacs in the Apple Online Store are in stock, with BTO's shipping in 2-3 business days.

Not much only some hints to new hardware to launch with Lion a few days before Lion was released.

Not quite right. In the days after WWDC 2011, we even had leaked parts showing up like backlit keyboard and TB port if memory serves me right. Then there were inventory numbers etc. nothing like that for iMac yet but, admittedly, it's harder to industrial espionage desktops

Ebuyer are carrying hundreds so might be some discounts coming over there.

Can the OP change this thread title to "What to expect from the iMac 2013", please?

No leaks, we have nothing ... maybe your irony (or seriousness) is proper : Apple is waiting 2013 in order to equip the iMac with bigger SSDs, Retina displays and ... Haswell technology ! I've waited so long to get my first Mac, I'm exhausted ... but I'll wait until I'll be able to get a new iMac, because that's what I've always wanted in the first place !

omg why you keep spreading 2013 ?? i already pointed out to you many times that nothing points to 2013 ok stop spreading that. ok apple went out their way to say that they were only refering to the mac pro when they were saying 2013 not the imac so THERE YOU GO IF IT WAS GOING TO BE 2013 I APPLE WOULD HAVE NOT CLARIFY SO, STOP SPREADING THE 2013 RUMORS YOU HAVE NOTHING TO BACK UP THE IDEA OF THE 2013 imac. youre only saying that because thats what you want it to be because you just bought an air spent your money and now you dont want the 2012 imac to come out.

Relax! March 2013 is not that far away! :D
