2 weeks of selling to desperate people + 2 weeks to exceed the return policy = new iMac exactly 4 weeks from today.

I'm thinking I'll wait a few weeks and if no new imac then I bite the bullet and buy. I'm a student so I don't need anything super fancy and I don't need usb3 right now. It'd be nice to have but I don't need it. I could wait until October, but I'm week one into the semester and I'm against buying new technology half way through the semester - it's too distracting haha!

I've talked to my parents about it and they've pretty much said I should jump and when the new imac comes out, if it suits me better, we'll do a swap because my mum wants an imac. If it comes out in September or October, I'll wait until January or February to buy so I can get back to school on it. I guess this way benefits both of us - my student discount will be something we both can do because technically both will be for me and I can do back to school, which I wish I could have done for my mba the other week.

So the wait continues, for a short while.

As for what I want, it's my first iMac and haven't run a desktop in a really long time, so I can't really think of anything in particular I want. I'm not a huge fan of the chin, but I can live with it. Obviously I want USB 3, but I'm assuming that's a given? Regardless, I ahve no need for it right this second so it's not a dealbreaker.

I'm not a student (that ended a long time ago ) I'm going to wait, unless my G5PM craps out or something. I can wait, I refuse to spend my money on 2011 technology knowing (hoping) the update could come any day, even if that day is sometime in September, October or later.

omg why you keep spreading 2013 ?? i already pointed out to you many times that nothing points to 2013 ok stop spreading that. ok apple went out their way to say that they were only refering to the mac pro when they were saying 2013 not the imac so THERE YOU GO IF IT WAS GOING TO BE 2013 I APPLE WOULD HAVE NOT CLARIFY SO, STOP SPREADING THE 2013 RUMORS YOU HAVE NOTHING TO BACK UP THE IDEA OF THE 2013 imac. youre only saying that because thats what you want it to be because you just bought an air spent your money and now you dont want the 2012 imac to come out.

...and breathe.

i just hate when people dont know crap start saying stuff out no where with no prove or anything. this misleads people who read the forums, and to my understanding theses forums is to help each other and discuss information, real information not mislead them which is what you do.

Oh... forums that include "Rumors" in the title are to discuss confirmed/real information? How could almost everyone on these forums have missed that? Oh dear... you must be the chosen one! But I can't confirm that, so that would be wrong of me to say, my apologies.

And you know what also misleads people? Improper grammar, messy sentences and bad netiquette.

Newsflash for you, son. All of us "don't know crap". You need to calm down. You're carried away.

true that none of us really know anything, ill give you that. But there is nothing pointing out to a 2013 imac release, so whats making you say that its 2013? why are you spreading that rumor there's nothing NOTHING pointing out to 2013. I said it before and i would say it again, apple went out and said that they were talking about the mac pro when they mentioned 2013 NOT the imac. So whats making you say 2013? why all the hate huh?.. i know why its because you spent all your money on a macbook air and you would be pissed if apple comes out with an imac in the fall hence you are saying 2013 so everyone would do the same as you. this is the last post im going to be referring to you. I just want to keep the info in this forum relevant and as accurate as possible. Is that so hard for us to do?

I wouldn't be "pissed" at all. I've moved on. My desktop days are behind me (along with nearly 75% of all other Mac users).

Just because Apple went out and said that it is not the iMac that they were referring to for a 2013 release, there's no reason for you or anyone else to believe that it HAS to be a 2012 release. Could just as well be 2014 since all they said that was NOT 2013. NOT 2013 could mean either <2013 or >=2014, so your assumption is just as crappy.

They could just as well discontinue the iMac too, nothing so far goes against that.

 I may be one of the desperate people mainly because new semester is almost here

I'm going to the very last day of Back to school and pull the trigger on whatever comes out first. New mac mini or new iMac. If neither refresh before 19 Sept, I will soldier on with '11 MBA at home and Dell tower at work until Heswell.

That was (almost) exactly my plan too, planning on getting the 13' MBA if nothing comes out before the end of the Back to School Promo. I would really hate it if the iMac comes out right after the promo ends...

But then again, there were rumors about a 13" inch retina MBP coming out in Sept/Oct and if that were true, I'd rather get this instead of the 13" MBA if iMac doesn't come out.

Whatever man. There has been many reports indicating that there will be a fall release. You keep believing 2014 and I'll keep believing this fall. And let's leave it there ok? I will go back and find you and rubber it on your face when the IMac comes out this fall and if it doesn't then you can do it to me, but I think we both know it's the fall wether you admitted or not.

I already own the 13" MBA! If I didn't I would certainly look at the 13" rMBP but as it stands currently in the market for a 2012 desktop. Apple, please oblige some time soon

Oh of course, I do believe that it will come out this fall, I was just going off your argument/source that Apple came out saying they weren't referring to the iMac but only the Mac Pro, and that alone only disprove 2013 for iMac but does not directly prove that it will indeed come out in 2012.

I was only making it clear that whether someone believing iMac in 2012 or 2014 would be equally valid, and that this website is indeed called "Macrumors" for a reason.

Well, my whole argument is that based on all rumors there will be an iMac this fall therefore the argument of the 2013 iMac doesn't hold any weight. So why start spreading the 2013 rumors ? Theses no reason for that, why does seamaster say 2013? (which he still hasn't answer that question). If you and I believe this fall let's not spread rumors of 2013 iMacs because there's no valid argument/rumor to back that statement up.

Given the total lack of news I think that you should expect posts that are written tongue 'n cheek, w/ a wink, just in fun, etc. Just smile, do not take it personally; and, move on to the next thread.

I've echoed the 2013 or Never hypotheses because I still believe them to be plausible. Apple's quick backpedal on the Mac Pro dating doesn't actually affirm that the iMac won't be refreshed in 2013... only that they aren't going to commit to saying one way or the other! I know it's hair-splitting but look how far wishful thinking has gotten us.

I do tend to think that if you take what little factoids we really do have at this point, and they are few, that it's plausible that the iMac was intended for a June/July release (a la Geekbench score) and that the manufacturing problem with the screen laminate ruined that timetable and pushed release indeterminately into the fall. I still think if it doesn't show by September, we won't see it until 2013, because October is iPhone time (and because DigiTimes said October so naturally we can eliminate that possibility) and because Nov/Dec is too deep into holiday shopping season for a product refresh -- returns would be overwhelming since many bought Macs would still be unopened, sitting in closets, etc.

The consistent amount of love Apple's mobile products are getting combined with its various software developments (iTunes in the Cloud, for example) pushing people toward untethered computing are the main reasons I postulate that we may see all Mac desktops EOLed, excepting perhaps one huge final legacy update for the Mac Pro since Cook has already verified that they are going to give us SOMETHING to replace the current Pro. Notice the Mac Mini is still not refreshed either, even though all of its constituent parts are not only widely available but are being used in the 2012 MacBook Pro! And the Mini is not subject to whatever screen laminate debacle is plaguing iMac production. So the only reason they haven't refreshed the Mac Mini at this point is that they deliberately chose not to do so. An ominous portent of things to come, or not a concern? We just don't know.
