I'll be selling my current iMac this week and saving for the new refresh

iMac 2.0ghz Core Duo
500gb HD
2gig Ram

300$ seem about right?

+1 to that.
Change the whole range so it follows like this.

Desktops
Mac Mini (Current specs, £499, Ivy bridge)
Mac Server (Mac Mini in taller body, £999, two ethernet, 1 PCIe, 2.5GHz i7 quad, Ivy bridge)
iMac (As above, £799)
iMac Pro (As above, £999)

Laptops
Macbook (Current Macbook Air, same specs and prices, Ivy bridge)
Macbook Pro (Current 15" Macbook Pro, same prices, no optical, Ivy bridge)

That seems okay to me...
Thoughts?

Considering they have shown the opposite trend by de-segmenting their laptop business from:

Macbook --- Macbook Pro --- Macbook Air
to
Macbook Pro --- Macbook Air

I don't think this is the direction Apple would go in. It would seem odd for Apple to not highlight the main feature of the Air (its portability) by removing its branding.

I have been waiting for the new iMac since March, and since I'm from Saudi Arabia that means I've to waite more 2-3 weeks :(, anyway I marked every tuesday in May on my mobile to alarm me to check the news out.. as if I'm going to forget something like this :p

FYI: In the German Apple Store all iMac and MB Pro Models went out of stock two hours ago. The refresh is near, if not tomorrow then next week at latest.

Yup it sounds like it's about time to make that refresh.

Other than USB 3.0 Ivy Bridge isn't going to make that much of a difference so I'm hoping that Apple improves the system where it makes sense.

Accessories (hell put both a Magic Mouse and Magic Trackpad in the box)
Bluetooth 4.0 keyboard with backlighting
10-key numpad as a $39 option please
SSD blade in every Mac.

All iMacs in stock at the UK online store, shipped 1-2 business days Czech Republic store as they are at the German store. First time checking so not sure if that's unusual.

Don't forget that GPU.

I have a weird feeling they will refresh the Mac Pros tomorrow... if they do, I wonder if they'll do iMacs at the same time? Have they ever done this before?

I have been waiting for the new iMac since October :D

Why do you expect that? I cant wait to its arrival.... i hope till the end of the month :S

Usually the imacs with 8gb of ram are in Stock but noticed they have dropped to 2 days in both France and Uk. Probably not enough go suggest anything as yet.. Although I hope it does suggest.

Let's hope it's this week. 3 day weekend coming up which would give me plenty of time to get to know my new machine.
If they did refresh tomorrow would there be stock on Friday or would I need to buy on the day of release to be sure? I realise people don't queue like an iPhone or iPad release but just thought somebody else might have a bit of experience with this.

stock is immediate upon online store going live again, the only thing is some CTO options may delay shipping. i.e. last years SSD option. But the price of Apple's ssd+ their tax+ the amount of GB space you get compared to any other 256Gb drive is so high.

It is but I hear it's the only way to get an SSD+HDD in your machine. Otherwise you have to go aftermarket and remove the ODD.

If you do any CTO for Arizona, it ships by May 8-10. Non-CTO is available immediately at the Chandler or Scottsdale Apple Stores. That's significant, I think. Or I could be completely, totally wrong. I just don't know! :D

There's just no way that Apple is going to give the user THREE hdd to contend with. Two is confusing enough as it is. Honestly, I wish the OS would just handle it all for me and make the two drives look like one and put the important stuff on the SSD and the photos on the mechanical.

Not as clean as you're looking for, but you can do to an extent by reassigning User folders. OS & Apps on the SSD, home directories on the HDD. Copy user folders to the HDD, reassign user accounts to use the new folders under the Advanced option in User/Accounts Pref Pane.

The current estimated date for delivery in New Jersey is May 2 with normal shipping.

Also, I just took a peek at the refurbished store and noticed that only the 4 basic specs are in stock there. I've been seeing less and less BTO's in the last few weeks. This is in line with things I've seen in the past before a refresh came out. However, I don't think tomorrow will be the day. I believe we are still a week or two out.

TLDR: We're only just beginning to see signs shortages, we still have a week or two left. :apple:

How is it confusing?

First of all, it's only purchased through a BTO on Apple's site. It's not made readily available in any of the iMac's stock configuration, so it's quite safe to assume the buyer knows what he/she is buying. Secondly, it's also only available as an SSD + HDD combo, and not in HDD + HDD, so who in their right mind would even consider splurging on a $600 upgrade without even understanding what they are buying into?

And lastly, it shows up in Finder as simply "Macintosh HD 2", while the SSD is simply "Macintosh HD". I don't how much simpler you can get than that?

Edit: I get your idea about the OS handling media files, but some user's libraries are negligible in relation to size. For example, my iPhoto library is only 5GB, so I'd definitely like to store that in the SSD for lighting speed loading, however my iTunes library is almost a TB large so obviously I store that on my HDD, so the choice is ultimately yours. Some people have smaller sized iTunes libraries and I would recommend they keep that on the SSD as well. It would be nice to have the app prompt you whether or not you'd like to use the SSD or the HDD upon first bootup though. But giving the user the choice in this regard is powerful.

I have been waiting for a Mac Pro upgrade for over a year and its taking tooo dam long so now I gotta wait for this iMac...I hope it lasts as long as my current Dinosaur power mac G5 duel 2.0 that I have had since it came out...I have got to admit for as old as it is I havent had one major problem with it,hopefully my new ivy bridge imac will last just as long with no problems.I know if I can record music in Logic with this thing and have the patience for its sloooow processing I will feel like I am moving in light speed again and get some real projects done for once AGAIN...So exited for the iMac coming soon!!:D
