if it doesnt happen next week, then i think were screwee for May and have to wait till WWDC or after. Which would suck, as were all waiting still+ very little attention from blogs to imac +my self and others sold our previous mac in hope of refresh. What if wwdc comes and goes with nothing!!!! Cant take it much longer without own mac.

California is not the world (I know this is difficult to accept).

Normally when a refresh is happening the Apple store websites go down around the world at around 10am UK time. That was certainly the case last year for every Mac refresh.

And what is wrong with waiting until 10 am here in California to know for sure it is not coming out? No one said California is the world or the center of the universe, but it is only safe to assume so after the apple store has opened today here. The Apple headquarters IS in California.

Thankyou, generally since apple is located in California it would be safe to say that it would be their time

I don't think you've read what I posted.

The point is that history shows that it does not work like that.

I get what your saying, I would just assume that California would be the time it's released on, I guess not, but I'm in Australia and its almost 30 min from Wednesday. Maybe tomorrow ?

It is California time they release things on. It just seems to be 2am in California they normally release things.

THIS IS KINDA SCARY

HERE

Better not be true

I put zero stock in this "article" (opinion piece).

1) $30 operating system upgrade is a terrible reason to delay new hardware
2) Apple likes to spread out their releases, not do a big bang with all the hardware at once.

Apple released new iMacs in May last year, before Lion came out in July and offered free upgrade codes closer to Lion's release. Surely early adopters didn't mind paying 30 bucks for Lion.

HP's website has their Ivy Bridge PCs shipping May 15th. Dell has May 22nd.

Right. I have no problem getting Mountain Lion later. No reason to lose sale $ by waiting

last year they gave some sort of coupon for the people who bought mac just before Lion was release, so they can download it freely from the App Store.

I doubt they will do the same thing this year. It'll just be easier if they release it WITH the ML itself.

Maybe the announcement of Macs will be just before or after WWDC, and ship together week/weeks after. but thats just my thoughts..

From a financial point of view, there is a fine line between delaying the refresh in order to take advantage of increased profit margin associated with selling last year's technologies and components (which have come down in price dramatically) at a fixed price and lost revenue from warehoused customers holding back from purchasing until a refresh. What we (none of us) know is precisely how many iMacs are selling right now.

I suspect the average Mr Joe Public doesn't even know there's a refresh coming nor would they know - or care - the difference between Sandy, Ivy or Waterloo bridge. So they are still buying.

That's big bucks to Apple. The tail end of a product cycle is the most profitable.

They did the same thing between leopard and snow leopard. Apple dont let software dictate hardware and they expect people to update the software.

my guess is - small revision wwdc in june with mountain line, then *maybe* another revision, design wise and spec, in october

I agree, I think new iMacs in June coincident with Mountain Lion seems the smartest bet right now — the news about Apple retail training dates next month confirms it.

I hope it's not in June, but it's not the end of the world if it is. I can suffice on my Macbook Pro for now. But please don't let us down Apple and leave it til August/later.

Nothing we can do.

I'm hoping for 15th of May!

I am almost 100% certain that it won't be 15th May. Not enough 'signs' yet. Maybe 22nd May but even that is no more than 25% probability in my view. The window then closes on 29 May (25% probability) after which it's mid-June at the earliest). Because after 29 May it starts getting tricky with the start of the Euros, double bank holiday in the UK, the start of Back to school promos and then WWDC 11 June...

Well if they release in mid to late June, that equals extended long no point delay + no real ability to gain a lot of mac sales this quarter

If it wasn't for the potential GPU update I'd buy now. The benefits of ivy bridge are hardly worth the wait.

The GPU update was the only reason I was waiting. From Apples point of view, what's the point of updating now if the main additions are just the GPU... with USB 3 and IB as very minor upgrades. If they don't have a redesign to go along with that there is not much motivation to release a new machine from my point of view. The 7970m is still going to be a great card 6 months from now so they don't really have a reason to rush out a release if they are working on a redesign.

With the new Apple TV rumors that have been popping up and past rumors of it being built into the iMac I could see them pushing release of a new machine to really wow the market. People want retina? That has been estimated as being year(s) out... another 9-12 months they could release a redesigned iMac that includes Apple TV, a retina display and whatever new processor/graphics card is available. That would also be around the same timeframe where HDD constraints should be minimized.

Maybe they are axing the iMac...along with the Mac pro. Who knows, maybe Apple is going all mobile now, maybe that's the great news they have for 2012. More toys! That's were they earn the big bucks.

I predict they do the same as with the ipod classic, they feel it doesn't need any new refresh, it has reached what they feel is a perfect setup. They will ptobably just keep on selling the current model until no one buys it anymore, then its gone.

Ipod classic makes sense. Going all mobile, well lets end there.

The toys would not be successful without the apps ecosystem. How are we going to create the apps? Using iPad pros? Also it would make total sense to continue updating OSX and using resources on it, if they were going to forget about computers. Actually, I am pretty sure your post was sarcastic.
