So logic (I know, new scary concept) would suggest Apple to just announce their products when they can actually deliver them

Some good points, but another factor to consider is that Intel stated they have around 50% more inventory than they did at launch of the Sandy bridge platform.

Dear all,

You guys think the price of SSDs will drop in the next iMac? £400 for the 256GB was a bit steep I always thought.

Well actually £480 for a 256GB.

It is £400 to replace the standard 1TB Drive. £480 to add an SSD.

Yes, that is an outrageous price.

Dell began rolling out 3rd gen Intel i7 (Ivy Bridge) PCs earlier this week. Now I noticed it even features the latest AMD radeon 7000 graphics cards. The new XPS 8500 features i7 3770 processor and AMD Radeon™ HD 7770 2GB GDDR5, plus USB 3.0.
Apple must meet even these standards pretty soon and IMO, the USB ports currently on the iMac should all be 3.0 for diverse connectivity. i would definitely like to see a screen size boost, that would be magnificent given Apple has a good reputation with displays. Apple is pretty mysterious about these things. Can't wait for these macs to come out. :apple:
If the new iMac comes with USB 2 only it will look very outdated, this is why I am convinced it will come with USB 3 (hopefully!).

I can't wait as well, next tuesday maybe?

and what did amd say? i think they are the problem.

we can expect imac refresh in about two weeks, when all the others refresh their pcs

Every Dell order with above mentioned specs has ship dates of May 22nd or later. As said earlier in this thread, Apple will announce / release when they can pretty much do both on or around the same time.

So it seems RIGHT NOW - even if Apple were to announce something, there's about a 3-4 week wait before you'd ever see it.

So logic (I know, new scary concept) would suggest Apple to just announce their products when they can actually deliver them.

Just because the parts are 'theoretically' available for the perfect system, doesn't mean they actually are!

those are just ship dates........................which may be the reason for a high demand. it turns out that when dell initially launched the XPS 8500, shipping date was May 11. therefore, if we use logic, as with all other companies, the high demand has set dell back roughly 2 weeks on shipping, as it set apple back on 4S, iPad3 orders.

Cheers. :apple:

Makes sense, id rather wait 2 more weeks for a ship ready buy bow imac than annoucement + waiting. Both suck. But the later is worse

Looks like yet again another dud week. 4 weeks now of nothing for mac really Really annoying how everyday theres some junk on ios devices.

----------

I was looking at the wwdc 2011 invite and it was not as vague as this years.

Will the 7970M play Skyrim maxed out? Or at least year old games like Battlefield 3 maxed out?

I agree to an extent. For me the latter is worse, but for those trying to decide whether or not to buy a 2011 model right now that scenario would be better. An announcement would at least show the waiting community the specs of the new machine and allow those folks to make a decision to buy the 11 or '12.

I find the rumors on the new iPhone to be interesting as I'm planning on getting one. I've had my iPhone 4 since it came out and it's starting to show some age. The complete lack of rumors about the new iMac is indeed frustrating though.

The 7970m is a slightly slower version of the 7870 (850 MHz vs 1000 MHz)

Skyrim is more than playable at 2560x1440 and 1920x1080

BF 3 is playable on 1920x1080 and lower. 2560x1440 with all the bells and whistles will run, but 30 FPS is not ideal, in my opinion

Another thing i thought of was that the wwdc invite looks like its made of apps. The colors could be retina for a 11-15" air/pro since the invite doesnt solely show or say clearly ios and osx only, like last year. Shiller of course said ios anc mtn lion. But obvi wont give away other info

Point is imac wont get retina yet, too $ + their res is already great

Competitors are releasing ivy , usb3 and 797m machines already. Apple cant let too much of a sales bite happen. With all that said, something silly remains.

Apple wont unveil non retina updated imac at wwdc cause that simply wont happen, notebooks fit the bill. Apple would not rotate there website home screen from imac to mbp to ML Simply one hardware maybe ML

Intel Ivy Bridge supports USB 3.0 it would be more trouble for Apple to try and keep USB 2.0. In the past, Intel did not support USB 3. Apple would have had to add a PCIe card to offer USB 3 thus adding more bulk. Now Apple can offer USB 3 without added bulk

I know, but now they can decide not to support it (since they're pushing the thunderbolt...). Having a new mac with USB2 would be just sad, even more knowing that USB 3 was supported.

Another thing, and I've read every page and couldn't find anyone mentioning it, ivy bridge will consume less energy, and for me even knowing that the pergentage with processing power compared to the 2011 iMac won't be that huge, for me, (and that's what I haven't seen mentioned yet) saving power is a deal maker, my electricity bill matters :)

USB and Thunderbolt are complimentary ports. USB is for general purpose and mostly consumers with USB printers, webcam, hard drives and card readers. Whereas Thunderbolt for the time being is geared towards pro user who need fast read and right times. Thunderbolt will not replace USB. I haven't read too much into it but I think ivy bridge cpu's are supposed to be slightly more energy efficient.

mmm...
i don't think they will kiss usb 3 for thunderbolt..
usb periphals are "generally "^^ more cheap than
the Tb ones..while Thunderbolt offer a very promising
look in the future..( who says external Gpu?)..
but...still..no news on MbPro line ,Mini or Imac..
while WWDC is approachin takin us close to Mountain Lion
release...so..1+1 makes 4 this time?
(New Osx,Imac,mini e MacBPro?)...
i don't know..but i hope to see this wait ending..
because is "kil-long"me^^:p

USB3 was released almost 4 years ago. For any new computer not to have it is simply ridiculous.

wikipedia reading fail. 'designed' is not the same as 'released'.

usb 3 was NOT released almost 4 years ago. it only started appearing in computers barely 2 years ago. even now there are barely any usb 3.0 peripherals that take advantage of the speed.

Can you Use USB2 devices with the USB3?

Yeah, there's really no good reason to skip USB 3.0. Thunderbolt still offers display capabilities, superior SSD/RAID connections, port duplication and external PCI-E 4x expansion cases. About all that USB 3.0 offers now is cheap fast external HDDs, which are pretty vital for an AIO with no easy hard drive upgrade path. We'll also be more likely to see iDevices moving to USB 3.0 by next year. (http://www.phonearena.com/news/USB-...ging-transfer-speeds-of-up-to-800Mbps_id25569)

(Honestly, if they don't offer USB 3.0, I'll probably get a 2011 model instead, save some bucks and upgrade in 2-3 years instead of 4-6)

Or will Apple expect everyone to sync wirelessly and charge via micro-USB or similar? They certainly aren't likely to choose Thunderbolt for iOS devices when cables are $50 a pop. Firewire was dropped from iOS already and won't play nicely with PC's, so no reason to go back. Hmmmm.

Whoever seriously looks like that right now really need to get out more and live life a little.

so waiting desperately for something we love is a sign of "living-no-life" now? :(
anyway, I think its just an expression from 9-gag for those who wanted to buy since last year, but decided to wait. an upgrade is around the corner, they said. lol...
