That means I can no longer afford the highest iMac... the others better not have crappy GPUs.

Hopefully it means you wont need to buy the top one if the upgrades justify the cost increase (depending on your needs). I'm thinking of the top 21.5 for me, for that price I would like a dual HDD SSD a better GPU (retina would be nice but not needed) and all the other hardware tinsel that should be guaranteed this year.

Hmm yea hopefully we'll be able to customize the other 27" a bit more this time. Oh well, we'll never know until we see lol.

I think it's telling how everyone notices the obvious price hike on the high end iMacs but also miss the actual price drop on the entry level ones.

Retina display prices increase with screen size... which imo... falls in line with the price increases on the high end iMacs.

I really hope there isn't a price bump...but if there is and the $200 extra is justified by the new parts/configuration then wait until you've saved the extra dough and buy the model you want. That's my plan anyway.

Only 5 more sleeps to go... unless Santa Cook decides to be mean and hold it off until the end of WWDC

Had a quick work out of the prices in GBP with Vat added on at 20%

Airport Express £91.5
MacBook Pro £1921.52
MacBook Pro £2458.80
iMac 21.5 £1037.27
iMac 21.5 £1298.40
iMac 27 £1537.06
iMac 27 £1921.52
MacBook Air £845.04
MacBook Air £960.37
MacBook Air £1037.27
MacBook Air £1298.70

Mac Pro £2305.98
Mac Pro £3636.24
Mac Pro £2767.33

Obviously Apple will make the pricing simpler by rounding up or down but this gives a rough idea :)
So $1523 for the entry level 27" that seems cheap for some reason, don't those retail around the 1700 range right now? Hmmm does the entry level mean something like a small 500gb hard drive though?

That's £1500 which is about $2300

I think the prices will be the same as the 2011 models.

I want the top end 27 inch model, which would cost AUD 2,499.00 and at current exchange rates listed on xe.com this would equate to £1,598.91 which is roughly the same price as the current top end iMac.

:)

I can only imagine its due to the screen, can't think of any other reason for such a bump in price other than for apple to say 'every screen is retina' any other hardware that would give that big a rise would be left as a BTO (my theory anyway)

I really hope not. As it is I can't see pixels on the 27" iMac at a reasonable viewing distance. I'd hate for them to bump the price a few hundred dollars simply for the bragging rights to say retina display. It's ridiculous. Even more ridiculous are the hordes of morons clammoring for it.

It's entirely plausible however I hope Apple understands that we are currently in the grips of the worst economic crisis since the 1930's and a price tag of nearly £2k for the top end iMac would put it out of the financial reach of most people.

Anyhow it's all speculation right now ;)

Agreed, as I said earlier the retina screen doesn't bother me either way as I think the current screen looks great in store. This will be my first Mac so whatever happens I'll be getting the 2012 (having waited since december) but luckily for me I dont have screen envy so a 21.5 will do me fine.

Plus 20% Tax, unless the bottom end are having a hell of a price drop... Which is possible and would be appreciated by ALOT of people.

There is a price jump on the top end iMac. All the others are within A$50 of the current prices on the Australian webshop.

There is a A$200 price jump on the top end iMac - I am hoping that is because it comes with an SSD as standard.

When people say "SSD as standard," do they mean only an SSD, or an SSD in addition to a hard disk, as is currently an option?

Yeah, because if they mean only an SSD on its own, forget about it, they cost too much, unless you expect an iMac with 256GB. Anything more would likely be incredibly expensive going by current Apple SSD prices.

Though a huge SSD would be amazing.

Australian GST (VAT to you and me) is currently set at 10%. If we assume that the price that is quoted in AUD includes the VAT, once converted equates to roughly £1600.

£1600 * 0.10 = £160
£1600 - 160 = £1440

UK VAT is at 20%.

£1440 * 1.20 = £1728.

Taking into account the exchange rate fluctuation and certain discounts apple get for bulk imports etc it's not unreasonable to assume a same if not similar price to the 2011 models. Anyhow it does not matter we all will find out soon :)

If I'm right, your maths is incorrect - sorry I'm REALLY picky, being a mathamagician.

£1600/1.1 = £1454.54...

Plus VAT

£1454.54...*1.2 = £1745.45

I was going on the Aussie price being taxless as the base model converted directly from the leak works out to be £862
£862 % 110 = 7.84 (get rid of Aus tax if its included)
7.84 x 120 = £940 (add VAT)
So plus or minus £50 of the current price point. Minus would be nice. Thats enough maths for me today, spent 5 hours in A+E earlier having my head glued together thanks to a valve handle falling on me at work :/ The only maths im interested in now is 5 days.... 4days.... 3 days.... :)

Just because you cannot see pixels, you assume people who can, and want a higher resolution so that they can't are morons?

I see pixels. I notice a drop in clarity when looking at a Mac compared to Retina iOS devices. I develop iOS games and so would like enough pixels on my Mac to be able to fit a portrait Retina iPad image on the screen. Wanting this does not make me a moron.

So the prices are within £50 of the current models. The base model will probably still be 999 as its an attractive starter price. I'm hoping for something nice in the updates.

I expect the prices to stay the same, and as mentioned by Nand, the base will probably stay at 999 GBP as it is attractive

Either way, I have a £2000 war chest set aside and a 14% student discount. I want the ultimate of the largest screen size (whatever that may be) and opt for the faster processor.

256 would be fine with me.. as it is I use only 150GB. They'd likely also include a 1 TB HDD I'd keep completely empty though.

If the base model stays at £999, but comes with a small SSD for the OS and/or a Retina display, I'll be doing cartwheels to my local Apple Store.

Fair enough, I don't think all of the data who*es will agree with you though. I would like both to be honest, if that was standard it would be awesome. Not holding my breath though.

Damn right, I've got about 10gb spare out of 2.5tb, I'm hopping for an SSD, don't care on size as long as it holds the OS and maybe a few key apps, and a large HDD, 2tb would be nice. Either way ill be getting an extra 2tb external to sit with my current one (mounted under the desk out of sight ;) ) so I hopefully have 6tb to keep me going for a while.
