Sounds awful gimmicky. I would like useful things like: scan this document & email it to xyz. Convert this image to pdf. Find the documents relating to my house sale etc.

I'd like to see them add a bit more polish to the Settings app, it feels unfinished.

Hopefully Intel support will continue, I want to get a few more years out of my 2018 Mac mini.

macOS 15 will most likely drop Intel support
Eh, I doubt that; from the day it started, PowerPC persisted from 7.1 all the way up to 10.5/Leopard and then translation support for those PowerPC apps via Rosetta was kept alive from Snow Leopard to Lion

I still think Intel still has a bit more time before its support is dropped entirely, but we'll see for sure soon

When WWDC 2024 takes place in June, Apple will unveil the next-generation version of macOS, macOS 15. While most of what we've heard about upcoming software has been focused on iOS, macOS and iOS often share many features, so we have some idea of what's coming to macOS as well.

AI Features

Apple is working to add a number of AI-centric features to its operating system updates, many of which are likely to be cross-platform.
  • AI-generated Apple Music playlists.
  • AI-assisted writing in Pages.
  • AI-assisted slide deck creation in Keynote.
  • AI code writing features in Xcode.
  • Siri improvements and deeper integration with Shortcuts.
Siri could benefit the most from AI improvements, and there are rumors suggesting the personal assistant will be better at natural conversation and user personalization, with the new functionality set to be available cross-device.

Apple is specifically working on improved interaction between Siri and the Messages app, so Siri will be able to do things like auto-complete sentences more effectively and follow multi-part, complex commands.

Deeper integration with the Shortcuts app could allow users to automate complex tasks that involve multiple apps.

There is a slim possibility there might be some kind of chatbot based on generative AI, as rumors suggest that Apple is considering partnering with Google or OpenAI to use their large language models, but Apple may also just be planning to use generative AI for system features.

Other New Additions

There are several other features that are rumored to be coming to macOS 15.
  • Accessibility - Apple is working on an Adaptive Voice Shortcuts feature for creating a custom phrase and linking an accessibility setting to it, plus there will be an option for organizing Live Speech into user-created categories.
  • Freeform - A Scenes feature will let users select specific sections or Scenes within their boards for faster navigation and sharing.
  • Maps - The Maps app may gain support for creating custom routes, and it may also be upgraded with topographic maps.

Name

Since 2013, Apple has been using California landmark names for the Mac operating system, and there's no sign that's going to change. Apple has trademarked several names over the last decade, and some of the possibilities that have yet to be used include Redwood, Grizzly, Sequoia, Mammoth, Pacific, Rincon, Farallon, Miramar, Condor, Diablo, and Shasta.

Apple could go with a non-trademarked name, and it has done so several times in the past.

These are the names that Apple has used since it started naming macOS after California landmarks:
  • Mavericks
  • Yosemite
  • El Capitan
  • Sierra
  • High Sierra
  • Mojave
  • Catalina
  • Big Sur
  • Monterey
  • Ventura
  • Sonoma

Release Date

macOS 15 will be previewed at the WWDC 2024 keynote on Monday, June 10. The first beta will be provided to developers that same day, and a public beta will likely follow in the summer.

macOS 15 will then see a public launch sometime in the fall, either in September or October based on past launch timelines.

Leon Ze Professional suggested Mac Sequoia. I like that too. partially because i would enjoy the pronunciation attempts by my foreign friends. I do not expect significant changes … just fix all the current bugs … name it Sonoma Valley.

macOS Sequoia, Galileo and Andromeda are my favorites in this thread.
Names that have not been registered won't get used.

=====
MacRumors has now discovered an additional set of names that appear to be linked to Apple, which trademarks were filed for on March 11, 2014 in Trinidad and Tobago, a favorite early filing spot for the company. The terms, all of which could be slated for future OS X releases, include OS X Sequoia, OS X Mojave, OS X Sonoma, and OS X Ventura, as well as the individual names Sequoia, Mojave, Sonoma, and Ventura.

While Sonoma and Ventura are major California cities known for vineyards and beaches, respectively, Mojave refers to the state's Mojave Desert while Sequoia likely refers to the Sequoia National Park famous for its giant sequoia trees. All of the names represent well-known California landmarks and are suitable for Apple's new OS X naming scheme.

At this point, the full list of known trademarks Apple has registered for includes Yosemite, Redwood, Mammoth, California, Big Sur, Pacific, Diablo, Miramar, Rincon, El Cap, Redtail, Condor, Grizzly, Farallon, Tiburon, Monterey, Skyline, Shasta, Sierra, Mojave, Sequoia, Ventura, and Sonoma.

Interesting reading this 10 year old article in the context of what will be chosen 10 years later.

Literally makes the most sense. I have not frame of reference with the current naming scheme as to a timeline.
Why not continue in best Apple tradition with multiple designations?: 15.1, A4325, KWSIVKJDBABBVVVAF, MDGFD/A

I always found the multiple designations of the same stuff, by model identifier, model number, serial number, order number, EMC number wonderfully confusing. Why make it simple, when you can keep it weird?

The AI features don't excite me...they will be useful but I hope macOS 15 has more than that. Any kind of improvement to Siri is welcome.

I want a Copilot alternative on my MacBook. At first I refused to use Copilot but I'm sold on it and it's the only AI tool I use. I tried Gemini and ChatGPT but they are in browser whereas Copilot is quickly accessible and more convenient. I've even installed it on my iPhone. Having Copilot on Windows is one thing that makes me go to my PC rather than my MacBook. Siri is only useful, sometimes, for basic things like the weather lol.

I'm still baffled at the fact that the M3 Max has 18 TOPS of the 16-Core NPU whereas the A17 Pro has 35 TOPS. Make it make sense.

I'd like to see them add a bit more polish to the Settings app, it feels unfinished.

Hopefully Intel support will continue, I want to get a few more years out of my 2018 Mac mini.
Settings is really in need of some restructuring and cleanup. Stuff is spread around with not much sense. I find it almost impossible to use without search bar.
