This is so happening. They already have put "new" beside it on the Canadian store when going to purchase it, even though the new specs are not there yet.

It’s after 1am here on the east coast. Wouldn’t the online store normally be down by this point in time if they planned to update the store less than 12 hours from now?

Good point, and I appreciate the tip about the sale. Thank you.

I did mention wanting the Pro, but to be honest I actually purchased a Windows laptop last year for less money than the MacBook Air and I upgraded the storage to 1TB for just $110 more. And it has a 90Hz OLED panel. I’d be hard pressed to go back to Apple any time soon when I can get this kind of value from another company. I hope to see Apple offer better value because that’d simply be great for everyone.
If you’re happy with your Kia, why are you whining about the price of BMW’s?

i dont think mbp updates are happening today. i think mac mini and imac are switching from M1 to M2. They are >2 years old and the M2 is available since last summer
I agree. It’d also be weird for them to announce the brand new, next generation M2 Pro and Max chips without some real marketing hype behind it. I could see iMac and Mac mini getting M2 this week. And then Apple announcing M2 Pro, Max, and Ultra at their March Event that would include updates to the 14”, 16”, and Studio lines.

Apple almost always releases at 9am California time (PT) for Press Releases. Unless it is a pre-release and they state otherwise, like iPhone releases.

Right. But the store goes down hours ahead of launch time.
For Press Releases, it is less fan fare. The store does not go down for hours ahead of time for just simple Press Release products. The big ones, yes but we haven't seen many Press Release releases in a while. Apple has been doing a big pre-release show for almost everything over the last few years now.

I wouldn’t be surprised, however I do think it’s time for Apple Silicon to get into a state of “normal”, where spec bumps are introduced by press release. I don’t think MBP is more important to Apple than MBA. Any of the products can do a spec bump by press release at this point, events are for design change and/or CPU generation change.

UK Store is showing ‘new’ next to the MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, Mac Studio and Studio Display. Not sure which of these showed ‘new’ previously.

They all did. After the new MacBook Pro's launch the new will be taken off the Mac Studio, Studio Display and probably the MacBook Air. At least, that is what normally would happen. The key is going into customizing them, and that is where I found the "new" that wasn't there before.

I have a feeling the M2 MBP’s will simply make the M1 MBP’s look like an excellent deal. With the M2 MacBook Air, even if the performance difference between the previous and new models was minor, there was a whole host of features and options on the new Air that made the M2 MacBook Air look new, and the M1 look old. But if the design stays the same on the MBP, any folks looking to upgrade from Intel may just go an M1 and save some cash, and any M1 folks may pass on the M2 and wait for M3.

The simple fix is to stop selling the M1 MBP’s. M1 MBA’s stick around to reach a lower price point. MBP’s are less price sensitive.
