Actually for a different bit of logic (what maximizes overall Mac revenue during the most lucrative quarter of the year?), I still wouldn't be surprised if there's NO M3 at all in 2023... and that "scary fast" is an updated M2 Pro (and M2) iMac with some pretty graphics/charts comparing very selective (aka cherry-picked variables) speeds to M1 iMac and Intel iMacs before that.
A couple of new iPad rumors were hot and heavy a couple of weeks ago, so why not show up in this event too? Gut updates to those could make them "scary fast"er than their predecessors now a few years old.
If there's a "one more thing", maybe an iMac "bigger" with M2 PRO & MAX... which could also be "scary fast" vs. the old iMacs 27" that ran on Intel. If so, my guess is PRO branding at "scary" PRO pricing... like the previous iMac Pro (far above previous iMac 27" pricing). Will apparent pent-up demand for an iMac "bigger" pay a handsome premium for an iMac "bigger" Pro? TBD.
First Macs with Thunderbolt 5... which could easily fit "scary fast" without setting up the buying conflicts of a few Macs going M3 while most of the rest stick with "old" M2 for the holidays?
With Wifi 7 routers being offered at well over $1K now, does Apple jump back into that space with their own Wifi routers again... which could also fit "scary fast" messaging. The profit margin certainly looks like it is in that space again.
Then 3-5 months from now, Vpro can launch with M2 with nobody ripping it as "ancient" technology (as you just did with M1) and THEN M3 can roll as thoroughly predicted right up to even a week+ ago.
I'll hope for all this M3 stuff to rain on us next week but WOW! Where's the accumulating rumors been? Pictures of boxes? Pictures of parts? Evidence in macOS software updates? "No new Mac updates in 2023" was fully accepted even a week ago. Has Apple finally achieved "doubled down" security so well? Or are we imagining "Scary" and "Fast" in the wrong way? Trick or treat?
