What to expect in the second Gen Retina MacBook (Merged)

Same price, better specs. It took quite a while for the Air to drop in price as much as it has now.

I don't think the mb will come in other sizes. I'd say there's a greater chance in a mb air upgrade with retina and different sizes. Mb will always be about portability imo which involves a small shell no bigger than we see now.

The air models aren't going to be updated with retina display. We have two options as possible pipeline:

- 12" macbook/13'3" macbook pro(14" with new form factor)/15" macbook pro(16" with new form factor). I'd bet for this option.
-12" and 14"(new screen size) macbook/13'3" and 15" macbook pro.

Those are European prices and entry level devices but watch this.

MacBook Air -- [ jan. 2008 ] -- 1699,- | 80GB 4200-rpm
MacBook Air -- [ oct. 2008 ] -- 1699,- | 120GB 4200-rpm
MacBook Air -- [ jun. 2009 ] -- 1399,- | 120GB 4200-rpm
MacBook Air -- [ oct. 2010 ] --- 999,- | 64GB Flash

I don't know what your opinion is about 'quite a while' but when I see this I really understand why people that bought a first generation MacBook Air would want to park their trucks on top of Tim Cook's Benz when they spot him at the mall. ;)

Yeah I can understand why the older people are becoming less fan of this company and start buying products without emotion getting involved. ( at least trying ).

I would be happy to take a 200,- price cut on this moment for only a SkyLake upgrade so it matches the Surface Pro 4 processor. But everybody who doesn't, if you can buy this current machine at Best Buy for 999,- I'd say, h*ll yeah that's a deal.

I wasn't including the extremely overpriced first gen :p I don't think the current rMB can be compared with that, so don't expect a similar price drop just because this is also a second generation.

Not sure where the 999 comes from in 2010, I paid about 1500 for a 13" back then. IIRC comparable 13" and 11" models remained about the same price year of year for at least 3-4 years before they really started to drop by 200-300 to get at/close to that 999 mark. Of course the specs were getting increasingly better as well, so there as a lesser need to buy a more expensive version to get the same performance.

In any case, I'm seeing pretty crazy discounts in various US stores every week for the current models. Don't know why, or how that's affecting Apple's in-store sales though. Also not sure how much Apple has or cares about competition from the Surface, so much so that it would lead them to drop the price.

Don't get me wrong though, I'd welcome a drop of course :D

Only 4 days left an barely any rumors about the event.. What's up with that, just some Hey Siri porn news.

I want info, rumors..

Id love the rev 2 macbook to have core m3, m5 and m7 options. I currently have the base model macbook rev 1. I also have a surface pro 4. At first I got a core m3 but subsequently changed for i5... but I think a core m7 would have been a great compromise.

Skylake, 720p FaceTime, and a price cut to $1,099 or so would be nice. I'd also like to see them push out a 14" version and kill off the Air entirely to clean up the laptop line a little. 12/14 MacBook and 13/15 MacBook Pro. The whole Air moniker doesn't make sense anymore.

If we really wanted to think outside the box, I'd love to see either Touch ID integrated into the trackpad or perhaps some kind of retina/face recognition security feature via the FaceTime camera. As laptops get smaller and become more mobile, they run the risk of being lost or stolen. With Safari keychain auto filling my passwords and credit cards, I would be happy to know my MacBook was as secure as my iPhone/iPad.

Makes sense considering the Rose Gold iPhone 6S was very popular, i wonder if they will also announce a Rose Gold iPad at the event. An update to the Macbook would make sense tho considering it has been a year since it's announcement.

That event was like a BIG **** you to all laptop users !! so they will keep pushing the "new and lightyears ahead" rMB .. hope the FBI ****s you like bitches you are .. #AppleBurnInHell

apparently you've forgotten not all Apple products are updated at every keynote right? Nothing concrete was ever rumored to be announced in the notebook line yesterday - so all this childish disappointment you're displaying is all on you.

Actually if the FBI ****s Apple, they are going to do it to you too because your iPhone will be vulnerable. And you still won't have a Skylake MB lol

Apple still without Skylake... with Kaby Lake just around the corner :(.

If you consider "around the corner" to be 6 months or so, then so be it. The reality is probably something closer to at least 9 before we see Kaby Lake M chips showing up in the wild. So even if Skylake MacBooks aren't released until WWDC, it's going to be a while before you could consider them to be last gen.
