Good ol' C64. Complete with disk drives and joystick. When GEOS came out, it was an adequate substitute for the Mac OS (of that period).

hi guys,
i got the inspiration of this topic after i read 'What was your first cell phone?' and i thought about doing this topic as a way of nostalgia
mine was back in 2002, a family friend built it for me and loaded it with all kinds of games and songs and these stuff, i was really young to use it for things other than that.
so, what about your first computer ?

I think TAM or iMac G3, we had so many computers back then, but the computer that was my own, i didnt share with anyone was an iMac G5.

My first computer was TRS-80 color computer

I loved that little computer, it was awesome. I got it just as I was a senior in high school.

I had a Commadore 64 for the family entertainment.

This IBM Clone I got through my work, that was back in 1985

TI-94A

Awesome to see the TI-94A as one of the first posts. Wrote my first program on it: AgentX. Ahhhh, the good old days.

Then Commodore64, Commodore128, IBM PC/2 ( i think ), Gateway with a 300baud model ( I was the most popular kid around, first thing I downloaded AxelF Midi Song. I still remember sitting and waiting forever for it to download, remember the moo boxes? ), Dell 486DX/66 ( awesomeness! ), then too many to remember

DEC PDP-11/23, built into a VT100 terminal. 160 k memory, 6 serial ports, 2 x 8" floppies (512 kb each). RT-11 and Fortran IV.

Commodore 64. My sister and I used to fight because I had to use the television as a monitor and she wanted to use the television as a television.

The original 2005 Mac Mini

Started out using these at school... (my first computer belonged to the university)

1 wrong card and life was not good... :(

SparkyCanada

Likewise….. first use of a computer was at university in the mid '70s. Had to write out the data for someone to make up punch cards for an undergrad diploma trial. I think I still have them and the print out stashed somewhere.

My first hands on use of a computer was on the original Mac in 1985, when I went back to university to complete a degree. We also learned to use IBM clones running MS DOS; I failed to see the point. I guess the big (5 inch?) and small floppy discs from back then are still stashed somewhere too.

The first computer I owned was the original 2005 Mac Mini. I didn't want a laptop, but I did want something that I could easily take with me from time to time. It fitted the criteria.

Here is a photo of my second computer, a 2009 Mac Mini, which replaced the first, and looks just the same. I am still using it. My third, when the time comes, will probably be another Mac Mini.

A beige box 386SX/33 with 1MB RAM, 256K video card and a might 40MB hard disk. Built by the neighborhood Chinese shop and purchase by my parents in 1993. It was relatively slow even then. My first upgrade ever was doubling the RAM to 2 whole megabytes! I also upped the card to a 1MB Cirrus Logic unit down the road to play SimCity 2000. Loved that machine though, spent many hours with it.

1995, the Quadra 660AV, a true power user monster, with an incredible 250 megabyte hard drive!!!

You could even make actual movies the size of postage stamps, what more could you want???

To top it off, I also bought a HUGE 1 gigabyte (yes, an entire gig!) external drive, for only $500, what a deal!!!!

That was the first Mac I ever bought, in 1993.

£1200, plus £999 for an Apple 16" Display, plus £99 for an ADB keyboard. It was a bloody bargain for a 68040 flying machine, with a Geoport and everything!

I still remember being upset when they were retrospectively downgraded to mere Centrises.

Aha, a fellow traveler, congrats.

I built a net startup on that machine, which eventually grew to about a dozen macs serving ezines to a couple million readers. Sold the startup and the 660AV and other macs to a larger company for a nice chunk of change, making the 660AV a happy memory for me.

I bought the 660AV to be the heart of a music recording studio, but then I bought this thing called a modem, and oops, the whole plan quickly changed. Never buy a modem if your goal is to be a better guitar player! :)

My first computer - used it for gaming and learning BASIC. I got this when I was 8:

It had a cart slot for games and a tape drive for saving my basic stuff on.

This was my dads first computer - the Amstrad PPC640

It had TWO 3.5" floppy drives...

I used to use them both a lot until my mum got me this:

and this:

After that, neither the Atari or the Amstrad got much attention from me...
