I choose to believe that Apple scrapped the design last minute. I can't remember the last time they announced something and didn't announce a release date.

I don’t see Apple coming up with a AW series 7 design within last minute. What was the whole Apple team doing for a whole entire year? Also, production sets in months in advance. Series 7 is receiving smaller upgrade.

Bottom line: It’s just an S year for Apple Watch.

The thing I don't understand is if Apple has everything planned out for a few years, how it takes multiple years to adopt the same design language across all products. By the time the last product gets these flat edges they are going to decide its out of style and start moving the first ones to something new.

For me, the most likely scenario is that the redesign depicted is mostly correct, however it just over time became incorrectly attributed to the Series 7 and that was actually meant for the Series 8 all along. Guess we'll find out in about 12 months.
For me, all those leakers are full of $"·@! They are occasionally right, but only speculating most of the time. They sometime get some inside information, but 90% of the time, these are just predictions. There is no way Apple would release Apple Watch with flat edges because this product lays on your wrist, so it is fundamental that it is snag-proof and comfortable to wear all day which is only possible with curved edges.

Even if you discount everything Prosser predicted about the Apple Watch 7, I would say that something must have gone wrong for Apple to not just continue with the current form factor, but to “launch” the new Watch with no details on the internals or actual delivery date. Everything about the new Watch seemed to be half-hearted, which just isn’t normal for them.

While I am disappointed about no flat edge, this is going to be an amazing upgrade from my Series 3. I mean look at the 3/6/7!

Why would Apple introduce a new size screen and design for Series 7 to ditch it one generation later? This style is here to stay for the next 2-3 Series of Apple Watch.

The only caveat to my above statement being that significant changes in health sensors require a complete redesign to make then work effectively

iPhone has become so predictable, people already know what to expect each year. Makes it pretty easy to steal part of the spotlight for an event announcing increased battery life, faster chips and improved camera just as they have done the last five years. Anything else new seems a little more exciting even if it ends up wrong.

Given the reports of the lateness of the start production which now seem to be corroborated with the lack of a concrete launch date, it seems quite possible that apple’s plan A chases redesign didn’t work out in production and they went with a plan B design with the slightly altered older chassis design. Not that I’m complaining, I think the rounded looks a tad better anyways.

“Given that Kuo, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, and leaker ‌Jon Prosser‌, the most reputable sources for Apple's unreleased product plans, have all reported a flat-edged Apple Watch, it's difficult to dispute its existence within the walls of Apple's labs and offices.

It’s not difficult at all. They all just parrot what each other say.
One will say “X” the others will wait a few days and repeat “X”, product comes out without “X” and sites start writing articles about Apple making last minute production changes.
Apple giggles cause it was never a thing. Lol
I still remember Kuo posting that the iPhone X delays were because of under screen finger print sensor yield rates.
lol
There’s an article, 4 ish years ago, somewhere on here that quotes Kuo.

The design is frozen at least a year in advance as Apple has to decide on all the components etc. to allow enough supply for their millions of sold devices. We commenters may think that they can add/remove hardware features in a pinch, but reality is much more difficult for engineering.
I’m sure the design is frozen, but it might not be a single design that is frozen. I’m sure Apple had contingencies for new case designs in case something doesn’t work out in production.

At the end Apple wins.

A curved case is much more difficult to produce than a flat one. Must be quite some imaginary production issue that prevented apple from achieving “flat.”

To be fair though, the delayed production rumors were already coming out a few weeks ago and it seems to have been true to some extent since I’ve never seen Apple release the apple watch without a concrete preorder date.

John Prosser sobs silently in the dark.

The rumor level only exasperated the disappointment of the products released.

The masses expect super duper, and all they got was mid product cycle. Which is what you should have expected…
He will be back soon lol… remember he always says, he’s got bills to pay. 😂 he’ll be back sponsoring the VPN crap.
