Patience will pay off for me.

The iPhone 3G is the first phone I have ever kept for 11 months and I'm still not bored with it.

Next year when I can upgrade I will be there.

Sell my 3GS for a price close to that of the new iPhone duhhhh. I don't know why some of you are complaining about upgrading/pricng, just sell your iPhone and you'll make more than enough back for the new iPhone or close to it.

3GS with video recording, compass (rarely used), and faster processor, not as huge, but it was minor because there weren't as many 2G owners (from a 2 year contract) as 3G owners (more of them). This isn't 100%, but Apple may be preparing some of the best features for the majority 3G population next year. Next year will be something big because Apple needs to have something to keep competing with Verizon and T-Mobile phones when the majority of the 3G owners (not all of them will try and upgrade necessarily) want a new revolutionary phone like they had with the 3G. I'm hoping for 4-5 MP camera with optical zoom, flash, twice the RAM of the 3GS, and whatever Apple feels is innovative enough.
3GS doubles the RAM and storage, adds a better camera, voice controls, video recording and a much faster processor and you call it minor. If next year Apple doubles the RAM again and adds flash, you will call it "something big." Hmmm...

Seems simple to a geek that just keeps wanting the newest iPhone.
- Bought iPhone #1 on day 1 for $599 (I think that is right) got $100 back from Apple shortly after.
- Bought my second iPhone (3G) on week one for $199 (8GB) and sold the "old" one for $440 on ebay.
- Bought my third iPhone (3GS) on day one for $499 (32GB) and sold my "old" on on ebay for $330.

Worth it to me to keep upgrading. Inexpensive, and I have a brand new phone that is MUCH better. This time I got drawn in by the VIDEO, 32GB, and the promise of TOMTOM (that cradle rocked.)

Some of us can afford to buy a new iPhone each and every year.

:D agreed.

plus, family plan - someone is always eligible

and on top of that, i always jailbreak/unlock and sell it.

this year, i sold my 3G for $200 and i didnt even spend the time to jailbreak or unlock it. basically got my new 3GS 32GB for $100. i LOVE the new 3GS - sooooooo fast & i love the voice dialing

This message indicates to me that I will be upgrade ready. Maybe not full subsidy for early upgrade which is ok with me.

I am eligible for upgrade again on June 20, 2010, so if the next iPhone comes out in June/July like the previous ones have, I'll be able to upgrade to it.

I can afford it, I just did want to do it unnecessarily since it's just the video recording that I want it for.

But yea if you sold your 8GB iPhone 3G for $325, that's amazing, I can't sell my 16 GB for $299 (with all the accessories and case), but I figured that I should probably wait and just enjoy next year's delight when WWDC '10 comes around and I'll be all excited about the new features and the fact that I'll be able to buy them without any worries of prices (I might just try and sell my 3G then for like $150). I lived without video for an entire year, I'll try to do it again!

I think it depends on what city you live in. In more affluent areas, you are more likely to get a higher price, also in more populated cities (i.e. major metropolitan areas), there are more people and it is more likely that you can find a buyer for your price.

As of right now, I'm keeping my 3G and here is my logic: Right now, it would cost me $399 to upgrade, but if I wait until January (or, more likely, when the next phone is launched in June/July), then my price will be $199 and I can sell my current phone for $199 and the new phone will cost me nothing.

after the HORRIBLE decision from AT&T to give us the LUXURY of paying the extra price, along with a new 2 year contract & what the hell, an activation fee too....thanks AT&T, its like christmas again

no thanks, gonna wait. sure it would be great to have video, and the new camera is incredible, but not going to go through that just for those 2 features.

exclusive contract ends in less than a year

my contract ends in just over a year

willing to cancel it in a heartbeat if apple decides to go with Verizon

Gonna hold out for the new one to roll out next year. In my mind, it will only have a performance boost, a speed boost when the new 4G network comes out, etc etc...but I guess we'll have to see.

its even more worth it to wait, and not have to pay $500 and a new 2 year contract.

just my two cents on the situation

Get on a family plan with a luddite. Then you can use their other line to upgrade quickly.

i understand many people wish for the phone to be with verizon. I don't get it. How will things be any better? Some people just complain all the time and are never happy. ATT has much better service and coverage in my area, so ATT > Verizon for me. Is Verizon that much better that they won't try to make money by charging the same amount for things and having bad cs?

Had I have been eligible for the upgrade now, I PROBABLY would have done so... upgrading at the end of the year makes little to no sense as you're already half way through until the next iphone comes out.

As far as the whole verizon thing goes, I think most people who are talking about this are complaining more about the coverage in their area than about AT&T's service. I've been at Verizon, the service isn't anything to write home about.

I'm also closing on a house this fall, and while I could spend the cash to buy 2 3gs's at the unsubed price, I'd rather keep it for now.

Next year and every year after I will likely buy the new one each year and sell the previous version as I think most people plan to.

what will i do when the new one is released, well one of 3 things

1.)moan like a little girl

2.)turn to crime to fund the upgrade

3.) sell my body

number 3 being the most likely :p

I would really hope that the next iPhone is a major upgrade. The phone market is too competitive. Of course that didn't stop Apple before.. i.e. no MMS, Copy/Paste, etc until 3.0 OS. I wouldn't mind getting a 32GB 3GS if I was qualified for subsidized price, but I'll probably just hold off until the next model. I would really like a 64GB model. Hopefully those modules fit in Apples pricing plan and design by the next refresh, but I am not holding my breath.

What was horrible about it?

Seems the sales were good

I didn't even upgrade either as I still have the 3G

Keep it. Duh. I'm not a person who needs to upgrade all the time. I just upgraded from the iPhone Original, today that is. (But I'm not that cool. Haha)
