I would for sure address the situation with the childs parents, but for christs sakes people, its just a phone.. you can get a new one.. the same can't be said for childhood.

When I was a child I made alot of mistakes like that, one time I was backing the lawnmower out and hit my moms car, thank god she didn't flip out like some of you guys would have. Mistakes happen, if a child has his health thats the MOST important thing at the end of the day, not your stupid phone.

Trust me, he/she knows they screwed up if they see the phone break, they are already very sorry and scared.

Good God! I thought everyone here was being a complete maniac until I saw your post. Now don't think I'd let them get off scot free but I wouldn't go berserk. I remember once I backed my dad's fairly new Mercedes into his truck. I thought I'd have a heart attack, I did about $500 damage to the truck and shattered the taillight on the Merc but all he did was tell me to be more careful next time. If they did that to my phone I would go up to the parents, kindly explain it to them, and then tell them that i think the child(ren) should be held responsible and I'd like them to reimburse me for the damages to the phone. If they said no then I might get angry but not right off the bat.

Years ago, I was running to catch a bus, when a little dog came out of no where and chased me. It resulted in my archos mp3 player falling onto the ground. The dog belonged to an old german lady who had another much bigger dog that is known for chasing people. I went to her house and confronted her about what just happened and my damaged mp3 player. She offered me $50 bucks, i told her to go to hell and that I was calling the cops. She knew she was at fault and gave me $200 (the player cost $270) for repairs. Turns out the mp3 player was just fine.

iGary, you got it spot on.

You do something bad, especially damaging other peoples property you deserve a hiding.

Kinster, please tell us your not one of the bunch of wacko's that thinks you can actually reason with a 6 year old?

That sort of thinking is the reason society, especially in the UK is in such state. And people wonder why 8 year olds go around shooting their parents.

True,

...and the reason kids are growing up to be such wimps and unable to accept failure. I actually read that there was a school, I think in Texas, which was considering making a 50 the lowest grade possible, and failing a grade impossible. This was being done so that kids wouldn't "feel bad" about themselves. Kids need to learn to accept the results of their actions, and stop expecting everything to be let go on everything.

I, too, remember most of my spankings and belt whippings as a kid. you can bet I never did one of those things again!
