Discussing the impact or non-impact of the situation in Japan on the shipping/distribution of a product in a forum dedicated to said product is not inherently sad, in poor taste or inappropriate…I think sanctimonious holier than thou attitude some people are shoveling over it is though…

This. People (admittedly, myself included) are already complaining to the heavens about a 3-5 day shipping window. I can only imagine what would happen if this got pushed further, tragedy or not.

Nobody is diminishing the extent of the disaster, but forbidding discussion of its ramifications strikes me as knee-jerk and holier than thou.

You know, as I watched the horrific videos on MSNBC this morning and watched entire cities being washed away, a thought came to me: "I wonder if someone's ipad shipment will be delayed".

lot of high horses in this thread. The dude asked a question that I'm sure a lot of people thought.

The impact this earthquake will have is in revealing who's shallow enough to have the shipping status of their luxury item be the first thing that comes to mind when they hear about it.

Congratulations.

I love the fact OP still fights tooth and nail when members have clearly explain the boundaries of social etiquette. Get a clue OP you are 7 shades of shallow and ignorance. I am glad I don't know you.

EDIT: LOL @ your global economy comment. Really? Do you really believe your own horse*****? Do you work in the corporate world? 'Cause you must be just a lovely person to be around.

I agree with this. When I first read the OPs first post I interpreted it as being about the effects of the tragedy on the global economy but being that this is macrumors it was made about the iPad specifically.

Also the OP did not even order the iPad...so I don't get how people are taking this as someone possibly being concerned about their iPad being delayed.

I'm reading this post and I find everyone jumping down the OP throat a little bit much...

It is a tragedy that this happened and a lot of people lost their lives.. But come on people........ Did anyone help us when KATRENA came through... Did anyone EVER help us... NOPE...... Life goes on outside of what happened... By him saying what he did changes nothing.... It's not like he chose to go get an ipad instead of going to help.. He didn't mean it in a negative way...

Yeah, no one in the whole world did anything. Sure. That's the ticket.

OUR OWN government rejected the aid... What's up with that..?

Either way it is a tragedy that this happened... I feel sorry for families that lost loved one's or everything they have ever owned.. If we can help then go ahead, but I'm just curious of who is footing the bill..? THE GREAT US of A

James, sweetheart, please think before you post:

My original home country, just a small nation, New Zealand, pledged US$2 million through the Red Cross. Even Iran:

Offered to send humanitarian aid and 20 million barrels (3,200,000 m3) of crude oil.

Let's put this stupid notion to rest.

Then I will be the bigger person and say I was wrong.. I stand corrected and will not say anymore..

^^^ read the post above over 95 countries pitched in to help after KATRINA

Global economic impact: relevent (could hurt others)

Shipping delay of ipad: trivial and petty, even on a dedicated forum

OP should have kept thoughts to himself out of respect for the dead.

20 Million Barrels of OIL HOLY COW! What is that in USD value? $2 Billion?

Hey! All you Holy Rollers getting on the OP's case for being a selfish jackass! Yeah..., YOU!! Perhaps the OP is not the only one wondering such things. Why don't you steer those high horses on over to this link and yell at them too!:D

Just sayin'.....

Of course OP is not the only one. Tons of self-entitled jackasses around the globe. We all know this.. the internet just makes them easier to find.

On the one hand the OP's first post makes me wonder if he is only worried about his iPad. It made me wonder why anyone would decide to voice their concern over something as trivial as getting their new toy. However, this post:

It's a global economy. Do you really think that people are not making financial & business decisions at this very moment because of what is happening? Do you think that there is not a massive war room in Cupertino right now trying to figure out how this is going to impact their business?

You can call it idiotic & careless & I am sure that it is coming off that way, but I am just looking at the business impacts of the tragedy. That doesn't mean that I don't care about what is happening on the ground over there.

Makes me wonder whether or not he was trying to have a meaningful discussion about the impact to a global economy when tragedy strikes. Unfortunately, he posted and did not come up with that gem of a post (quoted) soon enough to redeem himself. Now people have equated him to some careless ****** with no class. Either way, worrying about your iPad is ridiculous. Wondering, honestly wondering, how this impacts the economy as a whole is a discussion that people should be ok with it. I recall discussing things like this in college when disaster struck lands that provided us with various goods. It is not classless, rude, or insensitive to understand how the world is impacted. I welcome such discussion in light of the ****ing "white iPads are for girls" threads.

OP: stick with the discussion on the impact on the economy, if any. Move this to the community section, remove the references to ordering anything, and see what happens. ;)

As for the brilliant mind behind the statement that NO ONE helped "us" during Katrina ... JForestZ34, you are delusional.

I kind of bowed out of this thread when it seemed to be me against the world hoping it would just die, but I am very glad to see that there are a bunch of posters who understood where I was coming from & that I meant no disrespect or malice. To some, I am sure that you see me as dancing on the graves of the victims holding my iPad above my head & that could not be further from the truth.

And for the record, I ended up buying an iPad with AMEX points this afternoon. My ship date...April 1st, so those of you who say that Karma is a bitch, congrats.

Finally, to JForestZ34, speaking as a New Orleans native, you are on crack, but at least you admitted to your folly.

Why don't you all get off your high horse!! OP asked a simple question, he
doesn't need a lecture on how he should feel about the tragedy in Japan.
We all feel bad!

This stupid thread reminds me of when I used to have my aunt sell stuff for me on Ebay.

She unfortunately passed on suddenly and unexpectedly of a heart attack :( Someone had won the iPod she was selling for me. I had thought she had already shipped it, turns out she didn't. So the buyer had sent multiple emails to her, and my cousin upon going through her emails saw this and emailed the guy explaining the situation, and offered to mail it immediately.

The guy sent a blunt short reply saying he should get some money back for the inconvenience.

I'm just sayin

Nice comparison, DougFNJ. Personally, I think everyone who responds to this thread has been trolled. I'm going to post the OP on 4chan and see what kind of response I get there.

This is a legitimate question and I had the same one. I find nothing wrong with this thread. Why are you all so mad?
