Oh, and Apple should put 5K in the Thunderbolt Display, and maybe make it slimmer just like the iMacs. Then I'd spend $999 on it. :D

I am surprised some people prefer smaller phones, but even in my circle of friends and family I've heard several people state exactly that. My wife, for one - she has said she doesn't want anything larger than her current iPhone 5 (I've got a 6 Plus, and another friend has a 6 - so she is familiar with the larger Apple phones). She's even gone as far as saying she'd be willing to try Android, if Apple doesn't offer a smaller device...

My wife likes a small phone because she carries a cellular iPad Air in her purse. That is her primary device for anything but phone calls. She's quite content with the 5s and will never go for anything bigger. She doesn't really use any apps on the iPhone. The main benefit is that pictures go back and forth easily, and messages go back and forth easily between the iPhone and iPad.

Apple should focus on improving the camera on the iPhone and not on Face Time camera for the watch....

I switched to a Note 5 as my daily driver, because the iPhone 6s Plus camera is actually in some ways inferior even to the iPhone 6 Plus camera, the pixel count bump notwithstanding. The images from the Note 5 are noticeably better, particularly in lower light conditions.

A huge letdown by Apple, after the great camera on the 6 Plus, and falling behind the likes of Sony, Samsung and LG. Nowadays the camera is the most important feature for me, since all major brands provide more or less the same experience -- although iOS should finally allow widgets mixed with app icons on the same screen.

And really, Apple should start putting OIS on the smaller iPhone, too. They charge enough for it....

Am I the only one sad not to see something truly new from Apple for 2016. Sure we're going to get iPhone 7 but it's a old product if you know what I mean. The Watch is the newest but people out there (including me) fine it not worth owning. I have high hopes for rev 2 but I'm not sold yet. I really don't see anything ground breaking from Apple in 2016.

I think Apple will host a March event where they announce the Apple Watch 2. They can update the MacBook and MacBook Pro lines with Skylake whenever they want with just a press release, and I think they'll do that in February (though they might give them a few minutes at an Apple Watch 2 event in March). If Apple is phasing out the MacBook Air, they may not update it at all. We'll see.

A watch is incredibly awkward to hold up for any length of time. Its also difficult to angle it different ways. And how would you be looking at the viewfinder? About the only use case I can think of on the watch would be for FaceTime, so having a low res camera for FaceTime might make sense if they want to go in the Star Trek communicator direction But, personally, I have not even tried to make a phone call with my watch because it would be a public dialog. The only place I use a speakerphone type call is when I'm in my office where I can easily use my iPhone or desk phone. When I'm out about, I'm not going to talk on my watch, and that would include FaceTime... because I don't want it public. As for using the watch to take snapshots, as I described above, it would be very awkward and limited to do on a watch so can't see it happening.

No offense, but this is solely your opinion, and what works for you personally. When the original iPhone came out, I and my friends took selfies with them, by awkwardly turning the phone around and pressing the front virtual button as they had not yet allowed us to use the volume buttons to snap photos. No viewfinder, yet we all got very good at it, and took them all the time. If people want something, they will not care how awkward it is, and Apple customers in general tend to be very innovative. They're the ones who figured out you could wear the iPod nano on your wrist as a watch (despite the awkwardness of the headphone wire running out of it), not Apple. I can see people getting pretty good at taking photos other than selfies, by learning how to aim it without a viewfinder. And can see it being used to take pictures of UPC codes while shopping. It's only awkward if you think it is. Tim Cook personally gushed about how amazing the ability to make phone calls on the Watch, even waiting since he was a kid reading Dick Tracy to be able to do it. So as far as Apple is concerned, your disinterest in making calls on your watch is of absolutely no value to them. You can use, or not use the features of your watch, but clearly your opinion at least in this one matter is irrelevant. So the same could be true to Apple, and those of use who see value in having a camera.

They'll probably keep on selling it for another 3 years (without updating it, just like the 13" non-retina MBP. That'll probably go next year). I will be sad to see the MBA go, to be honest.

What "truly new" has anyone really come out with lately? VR is the closest, and I don't see Apple coming out with that for a few more years. It is in its infancy, just like wearables a few years ago. They did a lot of introductions in 2015. We'll see Version 2 of the Apple Watch, which should be interesting. And the MacBook will become more mainstream as the processor and battery life get better. They might even update it to include a Thunderbolt 3 port (the Skylake Dell XPS 13 has one), at which point all the "it has only one port" criticism no longer matters.

Look what they've been churning out since 2011 and add a number that's one step higher than the product is now. Result: a 'new' thinner/ sleeker / identical model for 2017.

Remove wallet. Purchase. Get back on this forum.

Sorted!

I've been a fan of the MacBook Air ever since Steve Jobs pulled it out of the interoffice envelope. That said, I think the 12" MacBook is the culmination of Steve Jobs' vision of that original MacBook Air. Skylake will be a big step toward mainstreaming it. Another processor generation or two and it should be ready to become Apple's mainstream notebook.

Why does the concept of people who like 4" iPhones being happy because a new 4" iPhone is on the way not make sense to you?

They agree with jobs that it's the perfect one handed phone from a usability perspective

Fair enough , but Apple are creating too many sub categories within categories. It cheapens the IPhone brand which is the most valuable brand in the world easily. Look at Samsung and how many galaxy phones they have its stupid.

Plus it takes r&d away from iPhone 7

I'm looking forward to the next AW - slimmer, more independent of the iPhone, and absolutely must be significantly fast loading app that do piggyback on the iPhone. Also would be nice to see a round variation that looked like a watch, not a toy.

But camera is def. not on my wish list. Too much on AW needs improvement before they start adding battery sucking gimmicks like that.

Just cause no one else is innovating , did not stop Apple in the past, that's a really poor excuse. I don't want apple to be Microsoft / Sony.

True. I really hope Apple keeps the Macbook Pros... I don't want the Air, neither the rMB to replace the Pro.

Agreed. Apple decided to go with markert research an provide larger phones, instead of sticking to thier design principles .

From actual experience , when I pick up my 5S v iPhone 6 Plus, I understood where jobs was coming from.

If Apple produced a modern 5S with the hardware in my 6S plus, I would argue it would be a superior device . I own a 6S plus for the battery, my 5S is poor.

I agree with all that, especially the round variation. I think the Apple Watch needs more than the current single basic case design if Apple want it to appeal to to a more wide stream audience.

I prefer my 6s plus over the 5s..

It seems Apple's current strategy is to flood the market with different versions of the same devices and hope for the best. it will all end in tears

I think Apple will keep both the MacBook and the MacBook Pro lines. They might expand the MacBook to include a 14" model. (12" and 14" for the MacBook, 13" and 15" for the MacBook Pro).

My point is that the technology has matured, and we aren't yet that close to another big innovation. Battery life technology more than anything else is holding things back. And Apple isn't exactly out in the open like Google. We all think Apple is working on an electric car, but what that will look like and cost is anyone's guess. Will it be $60,000 or $40,000? Who knows?

I'd argue that going all-in with USB-C with the MacBook was innovating. It will start to pay off in 2016. It's the same with 3D Touch. And perhaps Apple has some nice things in store for iOS 10. The iPad hardware is there. All it needs is better software.

This piece should be titled what MR thinks is coming. All of this is speculation.

But it will be troubling if the majority of this didn't happen. I don't think any critical thinking person takes predictions on MR to be facts.

Here is my opinion on what they should do with their laptops

Macbook Pro - upgrade the CPU, make the thunderbolt USB-C instead of minidisplay port
Macbook Air - Put in the lower power chip from the macbook, upgrade the display to an IPS screen of the same resolution and decrease bezel size. Make the battery life absolutely amazing
Macbook - Upgrade the CPU and add another USB-C port

"All of this is speculation" - I believe that describes the very nature of a rumour.
Rumour as defined on dictionary.com: "a story or statement in general circulation without confirmation or certainty as to facts".
Not really a surprise on a site called MacRumors; actually quite expected. Now if this was MacFacts, then a title change would not only be a strong suggestion, it would be the proper thing to do.
Happy New Year!

I hope they work on iOS bugs... There's still a lot of issues there, especially as it pertains to iCloud/store purchases. iBooks has been buggy for me ever since iBooks became a standalone app on the Mac... Works fine for reading books and syncing bookmarks, but syncing actual books has been a mess for me. I only sync music to my device from my Mac, but every now and then the "show all music" switch gets turned on by itself.
